Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: SuperM|Davichi|Kyuhyun|Kang Daniel & Wheein

Although I have older releases that I plan to review, I’ve decided to be on track with this week’s comebacks since I have more time on my hands now.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while checking out each artist.)

On April 9th, SuperM released a collaborative campaign single with Prudential Corporation Asia titled “We DO”, so let’s check that out –

Wow, it took a good minute and fifty-three seconds for my brain to register that this song is entirely in English. I was busy grooving to the retro instrumental, which I love and forgot that, oh, I could understand everything😂😂😂. The production quality on the instrumental is fantastic. Also, the guys look good, and their vocals are on point. I also like the choreography; it’s fun. My only issue with “We DO” is the uneven line and screen distribution. However, I think the vocalists got more attention because this is a heavy vocal track. All the same, “We DO” is undoubtedly one of my favourites from SuperM.

Up next is Davichi, who released their new digital single, “Just hug me”, yesterday –

I missed their beautiful voices and harmonies, so this is a well-needed comeback. Another song with a beautiful instrumental + how their vocals blend into the string instruments is pure bliss. I also love the music video because it gives me a sense of what the song’s about since English subtitles are not available. The actors did a great job of showcasing the couple’s emotions. “Just hug me” gets a yes from me.

Following up is KYUHYUN (of Super Junior). Earlier today, he released a new digital single titled “Coffee”

Nice, it’s the same actors from his previous single, “Moving On”. This video seems to be showing how their relationship started in high school. Kyuhyun’s voice is very calming. I could listen to him sing all day, + the chill vibe of “Coffee” is just perfect for me. I have nothing more to say than this is a 100% playlist-worthy song for me.

KANG DANIEL also released his 3rd mini-album, Yellow, earlier today. First, let’s check out the title track – “Antidote”, and I’ll follow up with a quick opinion of the album –

I have been hearing a lot about this artist but never found the time to check him out. This comeback presents the perfect opportunity to see what Kang Daniel has to offer. First off, he has a beautiful voice, and I love the intricate choreography. I’m usually hesitant about diving into new singers, but I’m pretty impressed in this case. I love his vibe, and “Antidote” is a lovely song.

What sold this album for me were the groovy beats, beautiful vocals and overall production quality. Not every song caught my attention on the first listen, but the few that did were brilliant. This record gave me a good feel of Kang Daniel’s potential, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for him in the future. My rating for Yellow is 9/10. My favourite songs in order are “PARANOIA” – “Save U” and “Antidote”.

To close, I have Whee In (of Mamamoo). Earlier today, she released her 1st mini-album, Redd. Per usual, I’ll first react to the title track – “water color” and follow up with my opinion on the album –

Right off the bat, I love the cinematography for this music video. Very classy and clean visuals, + Whee In looks gorgeous. The blue gown is my favourite outfit. Also, the vocals are on point. I’m thoroughly enjoying this retro surge in Korean music. “water color” is a song that I can see myself listening to a lot because it’s right up my alley.

This album was such a beautiful experience. I enjoyed every minute of listening to Whee In’s lovely vocals + the featured artists were some of my favourites. Every song got my attention on first listen, mainly because they completely align with my music preference, but all the same, Redd is an excellent record. Therefore it gets a 10/10 rating from me. It was hard to pick favourites, but for now, I’ll have to choose “Butterfly (feat. GSoul)” because the vocal quality and harmonies on that song are immaculate.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, and feel free to leave your opinions on each artist’s comeback in the comment section🥰.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: Jessi|ITZY|SUPER JUNIOR|PENTAGON & B.I

Hello, hello🤗

Wow, it’s been a month since I last posted, and I missed you all. How’s everyone doing? As for me, I’m delighted that Spring is Finally Here!!!🎉. I was so over winter, and I’m ready to enjoy more sunlight and pleasant weather.

From the title, you all can already tell that I am about to give my brief reviews for all the comebacks I missed over the past four weeks. This compilation is the first of five other ‘Catching Up’ posts that will be going live soon, so enjoy😊.

Starting with the bae, Jessi – “What Type of X”

I love the instrumental for this song. It has a nice balance of EDM and rock elements. I also enjoyed Jessi’s vocals, and the choreography is catchy, which makes for a good #challenge. Plus, the message of being unapologetically yourself is perfect. I could tell they spent good money on the music video’s sets because this screams bougie, and Jessi looked stunning in every shot. “What Type of X” is an excellent party number. It’s not my favourite from her, but it’s an exciting track that gets more lit with time.

ITZY – “Trust Me (MIDZY)”

First off, the animation for this lyric video is so adorable😍. I’m sure the hardcore fans of ITZY are super delighted with this appreciation gift. The lyrics are genuinely heartfelt, + the vocals are beautiful. “Trust Me (MIDZY)” is such a soothing vibe, and I will be listening to it on repeat for a while. I love this song.

SUPER JUNIOR – “House Party”

I knew this song was right up my alley from the first second because of the classic retro-disco vibe. The sudden switch midway into a hip-hop beat slightly threw me off, but I still enjoyed it. The visuals for the music video are very captivating, and they all look good!!! I don’t think there’s a need for me to speak on vocals because we know they always serve, so yea- I LOVE THIS SONG. “House Party” is the title track off SUPER JUNIOR’s 10th album, which celebrates their 15th anniversary. Hence I’m also going to give my thoughts on the record and list out my favourite tracks.

This album is a BOP!!! It’s well-deserving of a 10/10 rating. The first track puts the listener in a hype/happy mood, and the remaining nine songs keep you there till the end. I love that it is a mix and match of various genres, so there’s something for everyone, and each song has something exciting to offer. I truly enjoyed my thirty-two minutes dedicated to checking out this record. All ten tracks on this album are rich, but my ultimate favourite is “Burn the Floor”. The vocal delivery on that piece is insanely beautiful, so I will be stuck replaying it for days.

PENTAGON – “DO or NOT”

I’ve enjoyed a few songs from this group, so I decided to check out their latest comeback. From what I’ve seen so far, PENTAGON sure has a great set of vocalists. I enjoyed the pop-rock instrumental for “DO or NOT”, and the visuals for the music video fit the song. Would I say it’s my favourite from them? NO, but it’s an excellent song that might grow on me with time since I love the rock elements. Now I know they also released a mini-album, so here are my thoughts –

My rating for this album is 8.5/10. All seven songs are good, but not all could pique my interest on the first few listens, + some were too popish for me. Hence I added only five tracks to my playlist – (“10s and” – “DO or NOT” – “That’s Me – “Sing-a-song” – “Boy in time”). All the same, I did enjoy the sonic/pop-rock vibe of this record, + the vocals on each track are top-notch. I love the energy PENTAGON puts into their sound, so I’m excited to check out more songs from them.

B.I (formerly of iKON) – “Midnight Blue”

Super excited to hear from B.I again. I love the animation for the music video, and he sounds beautiful. The production for the instrumental is exceptional, it just strikes all the right heartstrings + the lyrics are very relatable. This song is almost too honest because I could picture every emotion. Becoming an adult is a big scam, but we have to keep fighting. Please cry when needed and try to enjoy all your little victories. I love this message, and the fact that he’s donating all the proceeds from the song to children in crisis across the globe is even more remarkable👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. “Midnight Blue” is the title track from B.I’s single album, so here are thoughts on the other two songs –

My rating for this record is 10/10 because I love the laid-back and soothing vibe. B.I’s voice took me to a very serene space, and I will be replaying this album for a long time. It’s so beautiful, and I’m glad to have B.I back. The boy is talented and deserves a space to create and showcase his genius.

That’s all for this post. I will see you all in the following review compilation, and I’m thrilled to be back.💞

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: HyunA|KYUHYUN|U-KNOW & Yang Da Il

Back to the grind with the second set of my “catching up” compilation –

HyunA – “I’m Not Cool”

This song is the title track of HyunA’s 7th mini-album – I’m Not Cool. She looks stunning in this video. I love her makeup and the vibrant colours for the music video; I can tell they spent money!!! The choreography is quite quirky but still hits hard. As for the song, it’s catchy but not precisely my vibe. In this case, I don’t even mind the heavy EDM elements, but my issue is that the verses lack enough substance while the chorus is a bop. Hence the entire song isn’t hitting the right spot. Maybe “I’m Not Cool” might grow on me much later; who knows?

Overall this is a solid mini-album from HyunA. The title track did get better for me with each new listen, but I still prefer the B-sides. My ranking for the songs in this EP is as follows – “Party, Feel, Love” – “FLOWER SHOWER” – “Show Window” – “GOOD GIRL” & “I’m Not Cool”. I think this record deserves a rating of 9.5/10.

KYUHYUN – “Moving On”

You all know I love ballads, so this song is right up my alley. KYUHYUN has such a powerful and emotional voice, so he delivered “Moving On” so beautifully. The actors also did well with showcasing the sentiments of their roles. From the lyrics, I can tell this is a breakup song, but the video also makes me feel like the boyfriend passed on??? I’m not sure, but I love this song all the same. It’s for sure going on my playlist.

U-KNOW – “Eeny Meeny”

The beat for this song is a groove + the chorus is super catchy. U-KNOW is serving smooth vocals, and the choreography is perfect considering the tempo. I also love the music video’s visuals. I was hoping that Seulgi would sing, but I enjoyed her cameo; she looks beautiful. “Eeny Meeny” is a bop that I will be replaying for a long time.

Yang Da Il – “Hurt”

This song is the title track for Yang Da Il’s 2nd full-length album – our joys and sadness. “Hurt” is a solemn ballad, and I love the music video. The actors did such a fantastic job conveying the emotions of this song. Yang Da Il’s vocal delivery is impeccable; his voice pierces the soul.

“Sometimes”

“Sometimes” is a pre-release single for the album and an equally beautiful ballad. I’ve noticed that most Korean ballads tend to be about breakups, but I don’t mind since they’re always so relaxing. This song has a very chill instrumental; hence Yang Da Il’s vocal delivery is more soothing and not too power-driven like in “Hurt”.

“Darling”

Another pre-release, and I remember listening to this one when it dropped. It’s such a touching song and has an entirely different storyline from the previous two. “Darling” is about an older man reminiscing the time spent with his now-deceased partner. I love this song, and the visuals for the music video are so peaceful. Of course, Yang Da Il’s lovely vocals are what truly drive home the sentiments of this beautiful piece.

“Understand”

“Understand” is a digital single from the earlier months of 2020. I love the moody colouring for this music video and how the video events occur in the background as Yang Da Il sings his heart out. He sounds incredible on this song, the vocal runs on this one are pure bliss. The actors for his videos are always so good, and yes, I am living for this serene energy.

“My Love”

Another song that was released earlier, but this one is from 2019. By now, if you’re not already familiar with Yang Da Il, you would have realized that he is a core ballad singer. Therefore our joys and sadness is a full-on slow tempo album. “My Love” is not a breakup song but rather like an appreciation letter to that special someone who makes your world more beautiful each day. I love the aesthetics of this music video, the scenery for each scene is stunning.

This album is perfect in every shape and form and deserving of a 10/10 rating. Yang Da Il served vocals and emotions on all twelve tracks, + every single song had something distinctly beautiful that captivated me. I love a good ballad record because I could play it in the background on repeat while doing anything, and it puts me in the most peaceful space. So do I love our joys and sadness, YOU SURE BET I DO. There are also some good chill neo-soul tracks on this record, which means I get an excellent mix with this one.

Alright, that’s all for catching up with the recent comebacks. You all will probably see more of this type of post during the first half of this year because I’m busy with school and can’t react to everything immediately. Still, I’m doing my best to show up as often as possible, and I’m grateful for the support so far. 💕💕💕

SUPER JUNIOR Teases Their 10th Album With ‘The Melody’

On November 6th, SUPER JUNIOR returned with a pre-release digital single titled “The Melody”. November 6th also marked the group’s 15th-anniversary, and their 10th album, The Renaissance, drops in December.

I honestly don’t think this group requires an introduction, but since this is my first time making a post just for them, here’s a brief one – SUPER JUNIOR (SuJu) is a South Korean boy group formed by Lee Soo-Man of SM Entertainment. They officially debuted on November 6th, 2005, with twelve members – LeeteukHeechulHan Geng, Yesung, Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryewook and Kibum. The thirteenth member Kyuhyun joined in 2006. The group currently has nine active members since Hang Geng, Kibum and Kangin left over the years. Also, Sungmin is presently not taking part in group activities.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV:

  • Already from the guitar entry, I know that I’m going to enjoy this song.
  • Awww, I love the scrapbook edit for the music video. It gives off a nostalgic vibe.
  • The title of the song truly speaks for itself. This song has a lovely melody.
  • I’m enjoying all their beautiful voices coming together in harmony. 😍😍😍
  • The finger clicks, clapping + the whistling during the chorus section is so catchy.
  • Seeing all the clips of them spending time together throughout the years makes me happy.
  • Wow, they’ve been together for fifteen whole years. That’s an accomplishment in its own right.
  • Also, these men are serving it hot with all the suits. I LIKE!!!
  • “The Melody” is a sweet and simple song, and I genuinely enjoyed every second of it. Therefore it gets a 10/10 from me.
  • I am super excited about SUPER JUNIOR’S upcoming album. December is going to be a great month.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks – Part 2

A-Lin – Passenger:img_3366 If you’ve been following my blog since it started, you’ll know that I LOVE A-Lin. “Passenger” was released as a single late last year, but she just dropped the music video yesterday. This is such a beautiful song. She always manages to make me feel the emotions even without any understanding of the song. I love how stripped down this track is. It almost sounds acoustic because the only instruments you can actually hear are the guitar and soft drums. So it gives a lot of space for A-Lin’s voice to soar. I also like the aesthetics of the music video, A-Lin is stunning.

TREASURE – Going Crazy (Performance Film):img_3362 This is my first time checking out anything for this newly formed group. I didn’t watch the survival show, and the only member I know is Bang Yedam. I wasn’t expecting their sound to be this pop-ish. Apart from WINNER and AKMU, almost all the artists in YG gravitate towards classic hip hop. I guess they went for this sound because of the age range in the group. Also, this is my first time seeing a YG group with so many members. All the same, I think TREASURE did great. They are young and talented, so even if this song is not my style, I am excited to see what they will bring to the Kpop community.

Lee Hae-Ri – from h:img_3076 On the 29th of January, Lee Hae-Ri from Davichi released her second mini-album titled from h. It has six songs with “Just Cry” as its title track. Lee Hae-Ri is the queen of ballads. She has a lovely voice and never fails to convey the right emotions when she sings. With these new set of songs, she showcased a variety of ballad styles. So if you enjoy slow songs, this is for you. My favourite song from this album is “Where the love goes”. I tried to add all the official music videos I could find.

SUPER JUNIOR – 2YA2YAO!:img_3364 I love Super Junior, and this song is a BOP. The beat is so good, and the melody for the chorus is catchy. Plus, all the handsomeness going on in the music video, who could resist? Their voices still remain as good as ever. “2YA2YA0!” is three minutes and thirty seconds long, but I still needed more time. It felt too short for me. I already added it to my playlist because I need more groovy songs to relieve stress.

Poetic Narrator EP – Poetic License: img_3079This is a newly formed duo. The members are Juniel and Doko, and this release is their official debut. The EP has five songs. Three tracks have music videos, and the rest can be heard on this album sampler 👇🏼 They have a really soothing sound. I genuinely enjoyed every song on this album, it was like a mix between neo-soul and R&B. Their voices are beautiful. They complement each other really well. I love the lady’s soft tone. I cannot wait to learn more about them. I added the entire EP to my playlist. It was too good, so I couldn’t select a favourite. Here are the music videos –

Kim Jae Joong EP – Love song: img_3365 This EP has four songs with “Tender love” as its title track. I can see myself on the balcony of a beach house staring at the ocean while this album plays in the background. Although I know who Kim Jae Joong is, I hardly listen to his songs. So this album is an introduction to his music for me, and I truly enjoyed every minute. He has a powerful and genuine voice. My favourite song from the album is the title track. Here is a sample of the remaining songs –
