Shi Shi – Come Away: Song Of The Week

My most played song of this week “Come Away” by Shi Shi, which is also an original soundtrack for the 2019 Taiwanese TV series – Someday Or One Day.

A profile for this singer is available with this link ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Shi Shi โ€“ Someday or One day: Song Of Theย Week

I recently went back to watch my favourite scenes fromย Someday Or One Day, and this time around, “Come Away” really stood out to me. Since the beginning of this week, I have been replaying this song. I adore the mellow tempo and comforting feeling I get when listening to it. Plus, Shi Shi’s voice always soothes me, so I can’t resist going back every day.

I hope you all enjoy listening to this song as well, and if anyone hasn’t seenย Someday Or One Day, you need to check it out immediately. It is such an excellent drama. I already have a two-part review available on this blog but be warned of spoilers:

Iron Ladies: Drama Review

I recently rewatched this drama, and I decided to use the opportunity to write a review. Iron Ladies is a 2018 Taiwanese series that stars Aviis Zhong and Ben Wu as leads.

Synopsis: Zhou Kai Ting is the youngest vice president of sales for the online shopping mall, Ai U Web. She turns to Su Can, a cafรฉ barista, to resolve a work crisis and helps him discover a talent he didn’t know he had. Ma Li Sha, Ai U Web’s General Manager, has raised an 18-year-old son on her own and is jaded by love. On the other hand, Wang Qing Qing has always had everything in life go her way. Can the three women deal with their respective relationship woes, marriage issues and family problems as well as they do their jobs? (source – Viki)

Review:

Even from my first time watching this drama, it gave off a similar vibe to the Korean series – I Need Romance. I love such stories, hence why I was excited to give it a shot when it first released. One thing I genuinely enjoyed about Iron Ladies was the chemistry between all the main characters, both friends and couples. I will say that showcases excellent acting. This drama also gave me a strong and intelligent female lead. There were times when Zhou Kai Ting made mistakes, but overall, she was a very rationale and understanding lady. I appreciate shows that portray assertive women because a girl needs such a confidence boost once in a while. I also love the soundtrack for this series. My two favourite OSTs are “Unachievable Future” by Ben Wu – and “Almost” by Shi Shi –

Iron Ladies is a good drama, but the story development and pacing did lose some of its appeal towards the end. The ending also felt rushed. To explain more, let me discuss the three main arcs of this series in detail. Starting with the main couple:

– Su Can and Zhou Kai Ting

Right off the bat, their chemistry was solid. I could also tell that Kai Ting and her fiance were not going to end well. The eight-years relationship had lost all flavour, and he went ahead to cheat. For me, that closed the chapter because it’s challenging to build the same level of trust again. Plus, Kai Ting’s heart was now longing for someone else. An important message this drama brought to the table was that marriage should not be a do or die affair. Everyone has the right to be happy and not merely settle for the bare minimum. Consequently, cheating leads the betrayed partner to question their self-worth, which is sad and frustrating. One of my favourite scenes in this drama was when Kai Ting and Qing Qing discussed the effect their partner’s infidelity had on them –ย

Moving back to Su Can and Zhou Kai Ting. All round, they were a good pair, but their main issue was financial inequality. Thankfully they were usually direct with each other and never dragged out arguments or misunderstandings. Another thing that disturbed their relationship was how they both lied by omission to protect each other, but all the same, I loved seeing them together. Yes, the ending felt a bit rushed, but the happy ending made me feel okay.

– Ma Li Sha and David

These two were a case study in their own right. At first, their interactions were funny, but their arc development towards the end was such a cliche. I fully believed in the agenda that she was scared of committing to a serious relationship and that her son was scared of losing his mom to someone else. However, what I couldn’t swim along with was when Ma Li Sha starting using childish tactics to keep David away. And to top it off, they decided to use the cliche near-to-death accident to make her realize her love for David. They were still fun together, but I did not enjoy how their story was handled.

– Wang Qing Qing’s Marriage

This was an intriguing arc to sit through. I felt rage, sadness and a whole lot of emotions whenever Qing Qing’s story came up. Her relationship was pure toxicity, and it led her to anxiety and panic attacks. I found her husband to be very disrespectful and pathetic. Excuse my choice of words, but I need to be this raw for you all to get how pained I was for this lady. Take away from the emotional pain, Qing Qing also had to condone mental abuse. After seeing all she went through, I could understand why she continued to sell herself short or believed that things could become better if she pleased her husband. However, where she lost me was when she took a break, came back strong and still fell for the husband’s tears to stay and fix their marriage. Like seriously? This man is a chronic cheater. You’re fully aware that he doesn’t care for you. What are you still holding on to? Thankfully through the grace of whatever, she came to her senses by the close of the series.

Overall, I still enjoyed this drama because it got me to look at situations through the lens of different thinkers than myself. It’s honestly not easy when love and the heart come into play because rationality goes missing during such times. Zhou Kai Ting, Ma Li Sha and Wang Qing Qing were women with real and relatable relationship issues. They battled and came out triumphant, so what’s not to love about these three iron ladies.

With all that said, my rating for Iron Ladies is 8/10. To get a better understanding of how I rate each movie or drama, click ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผDrama|Movie Rating Guide. All English subbed episodes of this series are available with this link ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผIron Ladies on Viki.

My Favourite OSTs Of 2019: Part One

Hello, hello… How is everyone’s holiday going? I hope you all are having a good time.

In this post, I will be sharing some of my favourite original soundtracks from this year. So let us get right into it –

Lee Moon Sae – “A welcome rain”img_2434 This is a soundtrack for the Korean drama – Angel’s Last Mission: Love. This is such a soulful OST, and I remember crying the very first time I heard it on the show. Lee Moon Sae is an older singer, and all his songs I have listened to are always heartfelt and very emotional.

Aska Yang – “Its Fate”img_2436 This lovely soundtrack is from the Chinese TV series – Love and Destiny. Aska Yang is an incredible singer. The build-up that happens in this song, with each chorus section gives off a very majestic vibe. This fits perfectly with the theme of the drama.

Shi Shi – “Someday or One day”img_2441 I already wrote about why I love this song so much when it was featured as my song of the week. If you have not read that post already, check it out with this link ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Shi Shi โ€“ Someday or One day: Song Of The Week. I also gave a description of the drama by the end of that post. This OST is so soothing.

HEIZE – “Can You See My Heart”img_2438 Another song that automatically calls forth tears from my eyes. All the soundtracks for Hotel del Luna are astounding, but this one by HEIZE stole my heart. I cannot even begin to explain the emotions this OST holds. It is so heartbreaking but also quite comforting.

Monday Kiz, Punch – “Another Day”img_2443 Another beautiful OST from Hotel del Luna. Punch is such an OST queen; she had three songs in the same series. Monday Kiz also did really well on this track. It was the first soundtrack for the show, and it solidified the awesomeness that was about to be delivered.

Liver and Gallbladder – “The Street You Left”img_2482 This is my favourite soundtrack from the Korean drama – When The Devil Calls Your Name. Liver and Gallbladder is not a real band. It was created specifically for the series. This song gives off the feeling of nostalgia, and I love it. The guitar in this is phenomenal.

Kim Igyeong – “Say to Myself”img_2483 Another unique song from When The Devil Calls Your Name. I am not sure if this was sung by Lee Seol or Sondia. Sondia is the artist who voiced most of Lee Seol’s music scenes in the drama. Anyways, this track hit me with the feels from the first moment I heard it.

Juno Su – “Fortunately, We Meet Again”img_2435 This was my song for last week, but I still had to put it on here. To know what I have to say about this lovely song, click ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ Juno Su โ€“ Fortunately, We Meet Again: Song Of The Week.

Bii – “I miss you more”img_2440 Bii’s voice always speaks to me and then when you combine it with a good drama, you will definitely get my attention. This song is from the Taiwanese series – Before We Get Married. I just love how soft this track is. A perfect chill pill.

Hu Xia, Yisa Yu – “Don’t You Know?”img_2445 I have never heard of any other OST that is so poetic and soothing. I lived for whenever this song came on during The Story Of Ming Lan. Ahh, now I feel like going back to watch the scene when Ming Lan finally accepted Gu Tingye’s marriage proposal. So cute.

Yoga Lin & Yisa Yu – “Chasing Youth”img_2491 I featured this OST as my song for the week in September. To read that post, click ๐Ÿ‘‰๐ŸผYoga Lin & Yisa Yu โ€“ ่ฟฝๅฐ‹ๅนดๅฐ‘็š„ๅ…‰: Song Of The Week. “Chasing Youth” is from the Chinese drama – River Flows To You. I have not seen the series yet, but I stumbled upon the music video on YouTube. The keyboard instrumental at the beginning caught my attention. Both singers are pure art on this soundtrack.

Elaine – “Search”img_2476 This is such a badass soundtrack that fits so well with the theme of Search: WWW. I have not completed this series. I just did a premiere watch, but I have plans to continue. I love how unique Elaine sounds, she always pulls you in with all her OSTs.

I had to make this a two-part post because I had a long list of songs. The final part will be up in a few seconds, so keep an eye out for that.ย Also, I have provided a synopsis for most of these dramas on some previous posts. So simply click on the tag for the specific show, and you will see all the related posts.

Shi Shi – Someday or One day: Song Of The Week

Hello, hello๐Ÿ˜Š

I am back to introduce a new song to you all. My chosen song for this week is “Someday or One day” by Shi Shi. It is the opening soundtrack for the Taiwanese drama Someday or One Day. This drama is currently airing and has only two episodes out. I’ll give more information on the series at the end of this post. So for now, let us focus on the music.

img_1572Sun Sheng Xi, popularly known as Shi Shi, is a Taiwanese-Korean singer-songwriter. She has been active since 2013 and is signed under Rock Records.

I was so pleased when I found out that she sang this song. I love her music, she is such a beautiful singer. I came across her when watching the Taiwanese series – Back to 1989 and ever since then, I have been following up with her releases. “Someday or One day” is available on Spotify and iTunes for download.

From the first time I heard this song play in the drama, I was intrigued. It has this solemn but promising feel to it. I could understand the lyrics, so it was even more touching. It is a perfect opening theme for the series. It tells the sadness of losing a loved one but also the hope of meeting them again someday. Shi Shi sounds incredible. I have mentioned this a few times on this blog, but I am going to repeat it – A guitar start for any song is always the right choice. And the way Shi Shi came in at the beginning with her soft voice was so good. It added to the soothing feeling of “Someday or One Day.” I also appreciate how the build-up towards the end was not too intense. The instrumental was still calm, but I could tell that the tempo went up a few scales.

I really love this song, so I had to share it with my readers. I hope you all enjoy listening to “Someday or One Day’ as much as I do.

Here is some information on the drama for anyone interested –ย
