Catching Up With Recent Comebacks – Part 3

Recently there has been a lot of comebacks and new singles that caught my attention. Unfortunately, I can’t write a review for every single one, but I can still give you guys a few words about the songs that impressed me.

#. ZHOUMI – “I’ll be there” feat. KUN & XIAOJUN of WayVimg_3813 It is nice to hear from Zhoumi again, and I am always delighted to listen to my WayV babies. This song is actually dedicated to encouraging China as they fight against the recent coronavirus (COVID-19). XiaoJun really stood out to me because of his distinct tone and technique. All the same, they all sounded beautiful together. “I’ll be there” is a heartwarming power ballad, and I really enjoyed second of it.

#. GAEKO – “Cold” feat. Heizeimg_3816 This is the classic hip-hop/RnB track which I easily gravitate to. Heize is one of my frequent listens, so I had to check this out. I also know Gaeko, but I usually hear him on featured tracks. This is my first time listening to an actual song from him. “Cold” is a groovy and chill track, so I immediately added it to my playlist. The music video is also fantastic with the way it tells the story of the couple.

#. John Park – March Lover img_3817 I haven’t heard anything from John Park in a while, so you could imagine my excitement when I saw the notification for this new single. Oooh, how I missed that deep and raspy tone. His vocal control is impressive. I am so happy. “March Lover” is also a groovy track, but it has some disco and jazz elements. I was dancing throughout the entire 3:49 minutes. I LOVE, LOVE THIS SONG!!! Thank you, John Park, for blessing my ears.

#. CHUNG HA – Everybody Hasimg_3818 Chung ha continues to impress me as a vocalist. I know she always had a lovely voice, but I appreciate the growth I hear. Everything about this new single is perfect. I love the message that everyone has one of those awful days, but there is always hope. Very relatable, and Chung ha’s voice makes things even more emotional. The music video is stunning, and the instrumental on this is very soothing. I added this to my playlist.

#. Dino Lee – Be Meimg_3819 I stumbled upon this song while searching for Bii’s new single and I am so thrilled because this is a gem. I am mad at myself for not giving Dino Lee the attention he rightly deserves. “Be Me” is a simple track, all in English, but what drives this song home is Dino Lee’s voice. He wasn’t doing too much, but he sounded incredible to me. Also, the instrumental gives off warmth, it made me feel like I was receiving a visual hug. I just wish the song was a little bit longer. All the same, I still love it. Definitely playlist worthy.

#. YOOK SUNGJAE – Come With The Windimg_3815 This is the title track for SungJae’s recent mini-album titled YOOK O’clock. The mini has seven songs in total, and the sidetracks are all from his 3X2=6 Project. I have reviewed three songs already, and they can be accessed with these links 👉🏼 YOOK SUNGJAE – W.A.U: Music Review

👉🏼 YOOK SUNGJAE – 3X2=6 Project Part 3: Music Review

SungJae dedicated this song to Melodys (BTOB’s fandom name). BTOB is honestly one of the most vocally talented groups. Every vocalist in BTOB is fully capable of singing a solid solo. I am so happy with SungJae for putting himself out there and creating this masterpiece. I have enjoyed this journey with him. His voice is beautiful. “Come With The Wind” is a heartfelt letter to his fans. Also, the animated music video is always interesting to watch. Good job, Yook SungJae. 👏👏👏

#. Dreamcatcher – Screamimg_3823 I have heard about Dreamcatcher, but I never had the zeal to check them out. I happened to see their teaser images for this comeback, and I was intrigued. I am genuinely impressed with this title track, so I have them on my radar now. I admire girl groups that move away from the conventional cute girl concept. “Scream” showcases incredible singing and rapping skills. I love the way the song starts, the instrumental is insanely good, and the music video compliments their concept. I am here for this kind of energy. I will have to check out the full album later because these girls are gorgeous, fierce and talented.

#. PENTAGON – Dr. BeBeimg_3821 I have listened to at least one or two title tracks from PENTAGON, but I never got into them like that. This comeback intensely called my attention, so here I am, boys. That whole stomping/marching band movement in the beginning already sold it for me. Plus, I love dark concepts. I lived for whenever they said “Gratatata…”, it so catchy. They have a good set of vocalists and rappers. I was jamming throughout the entire song. “Dr. BeBe” is a well-produced track, and PENTAGON ate this song up. This is already in my playlist, and I will be checking out the full album when I have time.

#. Niko Sun – 不枉年少 img_3820 I am not sure about the English title. I think it either translates to ‘Not Young’ or ‘Young.’ All the same, it definitely has something to do with youth. This track is from Niko Sun’s latest EP. I also stumbled on this song while searching for Bii’s new single. What caught my attention was the traditional Chinese instruments in the beginning. I just love it when artists fuse the old and new to create amazing masterpieces. This is my first time hearing Niko Sun, and I must say that he has a great set of pipes. Plus, his control is wild. This song is already in my playlist, now all I need is the correct English title.

#.MOONBYUL – Eclipseimg_3822 I haven’t listened to the full EP yet, but I like the vibe I am getting from this title track. I am so surprised that she isn’t getting more attention with this song. “Eclipse” sounds like something a boy band could get a lot of hype with. She nailed every second of this track. I was genuinely in awe of her presence and energy. I just hope she keeps doing her and showing that there can be variance in the kind of music that women put out. I also love the choreography for this song because it goes hard.

DAWN – MONEY: Music Review

img_1421Kim Hyo-jong now goes by the stage name DAWN, but he was formerly known as E’Dawn. He is a South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter. He debuted in 2016 as a member of the boy group PENTAGON. In 2017 he joined Hui and HyunA to form the group known as Triple H. In 2018, his contract with Cube Entertainment was terminated. He is now signed to P-Nation and made his official solo debut on the 5th of November 2019, with the single “MONEY.”

(This is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to the song.)

Review of “MONEY”:

  • Damn, he looks like he just got a good beating, LOL.
  • I already love this.
  • The lyrics are deep and relatable.
  • People say money cannot buy happiness, but almost everything in this world requires payment.
  • I also believe that money does not equal true peace or joy, but it is a necessity for survival. So the continuous struggle of how far to pursue riches is real.
  • I can see why most people said this song has a G-Dragon vibe.
  • The melody for the chorus is catchy.
  • The production of this song is impressive. The instrumental is quite shallow, so that DAWN’s voice stands out more. But it also goes up in volume during specific sections to create more emphasis and capture the listener’s attention.
  • Another song with good drums.
  • The choreography is very intriguing to watch.
  • I love the rasp in DAWN’s voice and how he talk-sings most parts of the song.
  • The visuals for the music video is excellent. Very representative of his emotions towards money.
  • The video starts out dark, but as he begins to accept that he does not need to depend entirely on money, the video gets colourful. And I guess the flowers represent spring, which means hope.
  • I absolutely love the message of this song.
  • This is my interpretation – Yes, money is needed to survive but do not let the continuous pursuit for riches eat you up. At some point, be content with what you have. Focus more on the things that genuinely bring you joy and peace of mind.
  • I like to think that joy is different from happiness.
  • You are happy when something good happens, but joy is an internal feeling of delightfulness regardless of what might be going on at the moment.
  • Time to check out the live performance and dance practice before giving my rating.
  • Live Performance –
  • He is a great dancer.
  • DAWN is a promising artist. The fact that he co-composed this song shows how much talent he possesses. I am going to keep an eye out for him because I sincerely want to see how he grows and the kind of songs he will release in the future.
  • My rating for “MONEY” is a solid 10/10. This a fantastic song and plus, it has a great message. I will be adding it to my personal playlist.
