Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: ROSÉ|WayV|SOYOU|Young K x PARKMOONCHI & Jun. K

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while checking out each artist.)

On March 12th, ROSÉ (of BLACKPINK) made her solo debut with the single album – R –. Let’s check out the two songs on the album, and since I am fashionably late, I get to watch the music video for the B-side as well.

I love the visuals for this music video. ROSÉ looks stunning in every outfit and sounds equally beautiful. From the look of things, this song is entirely in English. “On The Ground” sounds like something that would get good play on Western radios. It’s a cute song, and I could see myself coming back to it a few times.

This music video also has fantastic visuals. “Gone” is more on a mid-tempo, and I love that the base instrument is a guitar. I enjoy ROSÉ’s vocal colour on this one more because it sounds raw and unfiltered. I will be playing this song a lot more than the title track.

WayV released their 3rd mini-album, Kick Back, on March 10th. I will react to the title track first and follow up with some brief thoughts on the album.

My babies!!! I’ve been itching to check out their comeback. I can already tell that the choreography is about to be sickening just from the first few seconds. Xiao Jun’s vocals, though! He gets me every single time; I love his voice. The chorus is quite catchy, the vocalists did a beautiful job during that section, + the choreography is fantastic. When this song first started, I wasn’t feeling it that much, but after hearing the chorus and vocal arrangement, I’m all in. Is it my favourite title track from WayV? No, but I LOVE IT.

I enjoyed the vocal quality on this album a lot. The way they layered the vocals, to how well each singer and rapper mixed on each track, every aspect of the production was beautiful. I sense some growth from WayV in this record. Kick Back gets a 10/10 from me and my favourite songs in no particular order are “Action Figure” – “Horizon” and “All For Love”

Up next is SOYOU. She released a single titled – “Good Night, MY LOVE” on March 11th, so let’s check it out.

The music video is interesting. I love how it starts like a short film before the actual song comes in. Soyou deserves more recognition. She has a great voice, and her MVs come with beautiful visuals, so it’s either her company is slacking on promotions, or people are sleeping on her talent. “Good Night, MY LOVE” is a relaxing ballad, and whoever did the backing vocals on this song served awesomeness on all levels. The way the singer’s voice melts into Soyou’s is impressive to hear. I love everything about this song.

Following up is a collaborative single from Young K (of DAY6) and PARKMOONCHI titled “What A Wonderful Word”.

From the few seconds of the instrumental intro, I can already tell that I will enjoy this song a lot. Young K’s voice is so smooth. The man has a fantastic set of pipes, + he looks good. “What A Wonderful Word” is a chill R&B; I love it. Also, PARKMOONCHI did great on the keyboard. I have to check out more from her.

JUN. K (of 2PM) released his 5th Japanese mini-album, THIS IS NOT A SONG, on March 10th. The title track is “Moon Light, 2003” but since it doesn’t have an official music video, I will go straight into sharing my opinions on the album. Before that, here’s the MV for the pre-release single – “THIS IS NOT A SONG, 1929” –

This album is pure R&B goodness with the combo of smooth and powerful vocals from Jun. K. Also fantastic production on the instrumentals for each track. Therefore it gets a 10/10 from me. Honestly, it’s hard to choose a favourite based on my first listen because every song has something fresh to offer. However, if I was recommending songs on this record right now, it will be “THIS IS NOT A SONG, 1929” for the vocal delivery and “River Flows, 1971” for the comforting message.

That’s all for now, and I hope you all enjoyed reading this post. Feel free to give me your opinions on each artist in the comment section🥰.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: IU|Baekhyun|Park Bom|Kim Sungkyu & Jackson Wang

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while checking out each artist.)

On March 25th, IU returned with her 5th album, LILAC. First, I will give my reaction to the title tracks “Lilac” and “Coin” and follow up with a brief opinion on the album.

I’m never disappointed when it comes to IU; hence reacting to her songs feels more like an experience to discover new favourites. She is such a stunning lady, and vocal-wise, she sounds fantastic on this track. It’s nice to see her dancing. “Lilac” has some elements of retro/jazz, and I enjoy those genres a lot. The colours for the MV are pretty and nicely depict the spring season.

Once again, with that underlying retro/jazz sound. The set, lighting, outfits and direction for this music video are top-notch, + the choreography is captivating. Among the two title tracks, “Coin” is my favourite. IU’s vocal quality on this is so smooth, and the beat is groovy. I love this for me!!!!

This album was a VIBE from start to finish. A complete masterpiece, in my humble opinion, because IU did not disappoint. I enjoyed the infusion of different musical styles like r&b, ballad, retro and a sprinkle of jazz. The production quality is tight; her vocalization was on point for every song, + I always live for the intricate melodies on IU’s songs. Now, all ten songs are playlist-worthy, but my top picks in order are – “My Sea” – “Troll” – “Flu” – “Empty Cup”, and “Hi Spring Bye”. My rating for LILAC is a solid 10/10.

Up next is BAEKHYUN. He released his 3rd mini-album, Bambi, on March 30th. As usual, I’ll check out the title track first and then share my thoughts on the album after.

From the thumbnail of this music video, I can already tell I’ll love this. The black & white visuals are serving sensual energy, + the quality of the music video is insane; it’s very cinematic. I know Baekhyun is fine, but this suit and fedora look is taking things to a whole new level. The beat is groovy, his voice is smooth, and the choreography is perfect. I am in awe of the beauty that I am currently witnessing. He came to serve with all the vocals!! I LOVE THIS FOR ME!!!!

The vocal disrespect on this album is too much for me to comprehend and should be deemed illegal😂. Like did Baekhyun have to show off and come this hard? Now you all know how I feel about my Rs&Bs, hence I seriously don’t have the right words to describe what I just experienced. What the heck was the vocal insanity on “All I Got”? Nah, I can’t; I just can’t!!! This mini-album, Bambi, was created especially for me. I AM IN LOVE. Therefore, it gets a bulletproof 10/10 for the rich goodness.

It’s time for some Park Bom. She released a new single titled “Do Re Mi Fa Sol (feat. Changmo)” on March 31st.

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Park Bom, so it feels good to hear her singing. I love the vibe of this song. The music video’s visuals are also pretty, and she looks great in every shot and outfit. Changmo came into the mix so beautifully, and his voice added a nice texture in the background to Park Bom’s section. I love this, so it’s a yes for me.

Next is Kim Sung Kyu of INFINITE. On March 29th, he dropped his 1st single album, Won’t Forget You. Let’s start with the title track – “Hush”, and follow up with the other two songs from this release.

First off, he looks gorgeous with blonde hair. Also, fun fact – INFINITE was my first experience with Kpop, so the bond is strong on this one. I love the natural scenery for this music video. Kim Sung Kyu’s voice is beautiful, and the instrumental for this track is top-notch. I am so happy that every artist has been serving amazing tunes on this post. I love this song. It’s playlist-worthy and will be on repeat for a long time. Sorry, not sorry, neighbours🤭.

All three songs on this album are equally fantastic, but my favourite is “Hush”. I love that the base instrument on all tracks is a guitar. Songs with guitars as their first instrument always put me in a happy place. Kim Sung Kyu’s 1st single album – Won’t Forget You, gets a 10/10 from me.

Closing this post is Jackson Wang. He released a new single titled “Leaving Me Love You” on March 26th.

Why is he always in a restaurant? At least this time, he’s part of the kitchen staff😂. Is it the same actress from his previous videos? Hmm, I don’t think so; this lady looks different to me. I love the mid-tempo vibe of this song, and the melody for the chorus is catchy. It makes me want to sing along. Jackson sounds beautiful, and I think this is my favourite slower tempo song from him. 100% playlist worthy.

Wow, it’s been an incredible ride with this post. My playlist grows fatter with each review. I’m starting to lose track of all the songs there, but it’s always fun to share how each release makes me feel. So that’s all I have, for now. See you all soon💕.

Taiwanese-Korean singer, Shi Shi serves golden r&b with her 2020 album – ‘Where is SHI?’

Hello, hello🤗

How’s everyone doing? I hope you all are in good health and staying warm.

This week, I’ve decided to share an album with you all instead of my traditional weekly song recommendation. Where is SHI? is a 2020 r&b record from the groundbreaking Taiwanese-Korean artist Shi Shi. If you’re an avid reader, you must have heard me mention her in a few drama reviews due to her soundtrack contributions. This time I’m switching things up by focusing on her actual work because all the ten songs on this album are undoubtedly top-notch.

Sun Sheng Xi, popularly known as Shi Shi, is a Taiwanese-Korean singer-songwriter born on November 13, 1990. Shi Shi was born in Korea but later moved to Taiwan in pursuit of becoming a singer. After participating in a singing competition known as Chinese Million Stars, she signed with Rock Records Taipei. Her official debut was in 2014 with the full-length album, girls.

I genuinely enjoy her 2020 record Where is SHI? because it has a perfect balance between the nostalgic 2000s r&b vibe and the current modern take on rhythm and blues. Some other outstanding attributes on this album include Shi Shi’s unique vocals, great featured artists, striking instrumentalization, and excellent production. Plus, eight out of the ten songs have visuals.

Here’s my brief take on each track, and I’m also noting my favourites –

Track 1 – “Midnight Movie”

Such a soft opening to the album, + the guitar/drumbeat instrumental is beautiful. Shi Shi’s voice on this is serving absolute serene vibes. “Midnight Movie” always pours positive energy into me, so I love to play it more than once before moving on.

Track 2 – “Realer Love ft. sunkis”

I enjoy the slight groove on this one, + it showcases excellent production on both the vocals and instrumental. Shi Shi has one the most stable falsetto tones, and I love how she smoothly rides the beat on this song. Sunkis also has a beautiful voice, and he nailed the harmonies.

Track 3 – “Me First ft. TroutFresh”

I adore the keyboard and drum entry on this track, + I got introduced to a talented r&b/rap artist through this record. TroutFresh is impressive. I love his flow. I always enjoy the jazzy vibe on “Me First”; I find myself dancing whenever this song comes on.

Track 4 – “Empty Track”

This song is my all-time favourite on the album. I live for this type of peaceful energy. Shi Shi’s vocals on this track are pure bliss, and I could listen to her sing all day. Every note, instrument and beat came out right with “Empty Track”

Track 5 – “Two of One ft. HUSH”

While listening to this song, all I could focus on was Shi Shi and HUSH’s beautiful voices + the lovely melody of “Two of One”. The music video is quite intriguing. At first, I assumed it was just about jealously and trust issues between the couple, but there’s also cheating?😲 It isn’t right to use someone to cover up your sexual preference.

Track 6 – “LA-LI-LA-TA”

Now this song has some elements of pop, but it’s the right blend of music styles. At this point, I sound like a broken record, but I genuinely enjoy Shi Shi’s voice. “LA-LI-LA-TA” would probably be the last on my list if I was ranking the album, but I still love it. The hazy visuals for this music video are nice, but I don’t entirely get the story. I think there’s a lot of focus on people’s sexuality & how they identify in society🤷🏼‍♀️.

Track 7 – “Not Enough”

Here is the song with that in-your-face 2000s r&b vibe. I wish the music video had English subtitles, so I could fully understand the story. “Not Enough” is a groovy bop, and I jam out to it on repeat. Shi Shi looks stunning in this video. I love her dress and makeup. HECK NO!! The gay boyfriend that cheated on her is getting married to another woman????🤯🤯🤯. Plus, someone stole the wedding ring? Woah, this is some messy tea!!!🍵. This is my first time seeing the music videos, and I love that they’re connected.

Track 8 – “Give It to Me”

“Give It to Me” is a more sensual song. Even the vocals sound very sultry in comparison to the previous tracks. I love this vibe. The music video also matches the concept of the song. I loved that they filmed it in a classy way, but the sexual innuendos are apparent. My only problem is that this track seems too short.

Track 9 – “Infected”

Once again, another music video with a confusing storyline, but I believe this one shows the details of what went down in the relationship + how Shi Shi got her revenge? All the same, “Infected” is one of my top songs from this album. It’s a slow tempo vibe but with a very captivating melody + the keyboard player on it is exceptional. Shi Shi is so talented. The emotion she pours into each note is incredible. I love this song.

Track 10 – “And Then?”

Yes, the last song on this record and one of the favourites that I always play on repeat. The soothing energy from this song does something right for me. I like to have “And Then?” playing in the background while I’m reading webtoons or chilling. It’s a perfect track and a smooth way to close the album.

Alright, If you read to this point, I hope you found a few exciting songs to add to your playlist. Where is SHI? by Shi Shi is an r&b lover’s gem, so go check out the full album on any music streaming site or app. I use Spotify, so there’s a link below. That’s all for today, have a beautiful night, everyone.💕💕💕

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: BIBI|LAY|SECHSKIES|Kim Myungsoo (L)|asepa|CIX

This post is a compiled review of the comebacks I missed from last week –

BIBI – “Eat My Love”

I love the beat on this song, and as always, BIBI sounds beautiful + the animation for the music video is adorable. I adore her quirky personality and how that shows in all her videos and singing style. She will surely make it big in the K-r&b arena because of her versatility. People need to stop sleeping on Korean R&B solo artists in general. The English translation of this song is available using this link 👉🏽 Color Coded Lyrics. “Eat My Love” is a cute song with a lovely message but not my favourite from this artist.

LAY – “Joker”

See, I already know that with LAY, I’m getting BOPS. Hence I came into this song expecting excellence, and I got that 100%. “Joker” is a lit track🔥. The beat is not all up in your face, but it’s the perfect tempo for LAY’s groovy vocals/rap. I went ahead to watch the live performance, and his stage presence fully sold me, and now this song is on my playlist.

PRODUCER contains nine self-composed songs from LAY’s time on the Chinese entertainment show – CZR II: I’m Singer-Songwriter. In this record, he gave a perfect balance of slow vibes, R&B sweetness and lit beats. I enjoyed the mix, and even though I can’t pick a favourite song right now, I live for the vocal quality on track 5 – “Stay With Me”.

SECHSKIES – “DON’T LOOK BACK”

Another beautiful ballad from SECHSKIES. Older generation groups always have so much emotional power in their voices, so I enjoyed listening to this song. The instrumental is equally captivating, and overall the production of this song is excellent. They also did well with the acting of each role for the music video. “DON’T LOOK BACK” is already on my playlist.

KIM MYUNGSOO (L of INFINITE) – “Between memory and memory”

This release is L’s 1st single album, so I was very excited about it. You all know I love ballads, so that already gave the song a fair chance in my books. I enjoyed watching the music video. It is beautiful, and every frame could be a legit screensaver. Plus, I love the serene vibe, and L looked effortlessly stunning. The instrumental is lovely and paired well with L’s calm vocal tone + I love the choral effect they used in some sections. “Between memory and memory” is a song that I see myself replaying a lot.

asepa – “Forever”

I believe this is asepa’s second single, and I haven’t listened to their first. The visuals for this music video are beautiful, and I love their voices. They sound stable for such a sweet slow track. I was genuinely impressed by the soft vocal runs from their main vocalists (sorry, I’m not familiar with their names yet.). I love that they’re not pushing their vocals to get extreme high notes but rather working effectively within their vocal range. “Forever” is a lovely song, and I already added it to my playlist. I’ll make time to check out their debut song.

CIX – “Cinema”

CIX is one of my newer interests. I first heard “What You Wanted” from Spotify, and I got intrigued. My favourite songs from their EP – Hello, Strange Time are “Jungle” & “Change Me”. So I’ve been dying to check out more from this group, and here is the perfect opportunity. “Cinema” has a catchy beat, and the vocals are equally top-notch. The set/visuals for the music video is very detailed and perfect for the upbeat vibe. I adore the retro sound of this song; it’s something I can always play on repeat.

Hello, Strange Dream is their 4th EP with five songs. After listening to this record, I officially became a fan of CIX. They have perfect vocals, captivating music, and their vibe is right up my alley. I’ll find time to check out their full discography and learn more about the members. I enjoyed all five songs on this new album, but if I were to pick just one to have on replay for days, it would be “Stairway To Heaven”.

That’s is all for this week’s catching up with recent comebacks; see you all in my next post💕💕💕.

Following up is Jike Junyi at the GQ 2020 MEN OF THE YEAR AWARD. She was glowing at this event. The outfit, hair and makeup was so on point –

My baby🥰 Chen Linong served in two beautiful suit looks –

Yang Mi‘s looked stunning!!! I can’t pick a favourite in her case because I love the fluffy look of the pink gown, but I also like the simple/classy style of the other dress –

My first time seeing Angela Hui, and she’s beautiful + her baby blue gown is so pretty-

Zhang Meng came through with some traditional elements. The papered wall/twigs truly set the antique vibe for these pictures –

Jeremy Jones Xu came to serve face. This man should be made illegal; how can someone be so good looking? –

Yang Yang looked great in his Dunhill suit. His studio was probably like, “no need to post too many pictures. He could slay and bewitch in just four.” Don’t mind me😂😂😂😂 –

Xu Kai‘s round eyeglass is the main point of his outfit, in my opinion. He makes me want to get new glasses in the same style –

Yang Chao Yue is such an attractive lady. Her long black hair, the gown, + the setting for her pictures were all flawless –

Rachel Mao was serving vintage princess vibes with her first look. I love the yellow gown on her, it compliments her skin tone so well, and she’s gorgeous –

Greg Han kept it simple. He’s got the face to shine all day long, so he looked charming –

Another suited up look from Vengo Gao. The textured blazer brought the right amount of bougie to his outfit –

Xing Zhaolin and his green suit are indeed fated. He looks remarkable good; I’m in awe –

The two outfits for Chen Yuqi did her justice. I love both dresses, but the black & yellow one has a special place in my heart –

To close off, I have Maggie Jiang. I think she looked better in the black gown; it hugged her body perfectly. All the same, she’s pretty –

Chinese Celebrities Glam Out for #TencentVideoAll-StarNight 2020

Dilraba Dilmurut served queen vibes for her first outfit, and the second look was equally beautiful –

Zhao Lusi was the prettiest angel with her first look. Then she went traditional for her performance outfit –

Wang Yibo arrived at the event dripped in Chanel. I believe he had three different looks, but I’ll just be sharing my two favourites –

Xiao Zhan came through!!! I love the way they took his pictures. The background and lighting was perfect + he looked stunning in every shot –

Zhao Liying had three dress changes, but my favourite is her first outfit: the gorgeous black + gold embroidered Georges Hobeika gown. The blue Dior gown was also a great look for her –

Victoria Song served legs + Chanel for the red carpet. She is captivating in the black gown –

Yang Zi was giving me fairy vibes with her gown and aesthetics for these pictures –

Arthur Chen had two looks for the event, and he suited up in both –

Leo Luo also graced the event in a suit, and as expected, he looked great –

Wang Zhuocheng probably didn’t change outfits because this is the only look I found for him –

Bambi Zhu stayed within the standard two change of outfits. I prefer her in the brown ball gown –

Tiffany Tang is also another celeb that impressed me more with her second look. She severed sparkling beauty queen vibes –

Liang Jie served classic beauty with her first look. The white gown did justice to her body, and I couldn’t stop staring –

Second to last on this 1st part compilation is Ryan Ding, and he got quite creative with his photos by including his prepping stage –

To close, I have Kris Wu’s two looks for the event, and my favourite is the black blazer outfit –
