Just yesterday, LEE HI released her new single “HOLO”, and I am here to support my vocal queen. I am excited to hear this song because her voice never disappoints. Lee Ha-yi, popularly known as LEE HI, is a South Korean singer-songwriter born on September 23rd, 1996. She garnered fame after participating in the audition program – K-pop Star Season 1 and finishing as the runner-up. Her official debut was on October 8th of 2012 with the single – “1, 2, 3, 4.” Lee Hi was managed by YG Entertainment up until December 31st, 2019. She is now signed to AOMG, and this new single marks her first release after parting ways with YG.
(Please note – This is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)
Reaction to Official MV:
Yes! I have English captions.
Oh, no girl, you better not jump. Suicide is not the answer, my love.
I feel this is about to be a very heartfelt track.
I really missed LEE HI’s voice. YG definitely did not give us enough of her, so I am very excited about this fresh start with a new company.
She is stunning and black hair always flatters her features.
Back to the song, The lyrics are absolutely beautiful.
The piano on this track is soothing and very comforting.
Exactly. Sing it LEE HI – “One day, it will stop.” I genuinely believe that no matter what we’re going through, it will pass away, and our happy moments will last for a longer time.
Fun fact – LEE HI and I are born in the same year, but I’m a December baby. I just felt the need to share that.😊
Her voice always gives me chills because it’s so soulful, and this song is really touching.
I love how the instrumental went up in tempo for the chorus. Also, nice touch with choir backing for that section, It created an uplifting aura.
Basically, she is the little girl’s guiding angel. Giving her strength to continue living, but I think the little girl also represents LEE HI.
This means “HOLO” is a letter to herself to continue fighting the sadness, loneliness, depression, and sad feelings because one day, it will all go away.
“HOLO” is, for sure, going on my playlist. It is a lovely song with an important message.
It gets a solid 10/10 from me. Good job LEE HI👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I posted on the blog’s Facebook page that I would be compiling a missed review post. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get this out earlier today due to schoolwork, but here it is. I also have a second part coming soon because I have a lot of groups and solo artists to go through.
(Please note – This is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)
“Candy” by Baekhyun – Reaction to Official MV:
Already this instrumental is giving straight BOP vibes.
Baekhyun’s voice is out of this world beautiful.
I am living for the instrumental, and I love how they slowed it down for the pre-chorus section.
Beautiful choreography and the chorus is so good.
I absolutely love the variations of beats in the background.
The deep drum beat that came in during the second verse was too perfect.🔥
The subtle runs that Baekhyun does at the end of each sentence are pure eargasm.
This is catchy and easy to groove to.
The slowed-down parts get me majorly in my feels.
The production is insane. From the vocal runs to the background vocals and even the high notes. Everything is incredible.
What else was I expecting?
Beakhyun is merely flexing his exceptional pipes on us, and I AM FEELING BLESSED.
Hence my rating for “Candy” is a bulletproof 10/10.
Now I know this is the title track for Baekhyun’s 2nd mini-album Delight, so I am going to check that out now.
This EP has seven tracks, and everyone was equally amazing.
I can’t pick a favourite song now because I want to replay the album later today when I’m fully awake. I need to appreciate all the tiny details before deciding.
All the same, Beakhyun’s voice is breathtaking, and Delight is a classic, lovely and well-produced R&B album. My rating for it is 10/10.
“FANTASIA” by Monsta X –Reaction to Official MV:
This is my first time actively listening to a song from Monsta X.
I only randomly heard “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT” and “Wish on the same sky” on Spotify, and I LOVE both songs.
So why not check out their recent comeback?
Okay… I wasn’t expecting the beat to go hard that fast.
The first rapper is so good. I love the way he came in, and the instrumental switch up for that section was perfect for his rap style.
The visuals for the music video are outstanding.
I love the synthesized beat for the chorus section.
The boys look amazing in the black and gold outfit.
They have great dancers, and the vocalists are also pretty solid.
The beat drops for this song are very epic and intriguing.
After my first listen, I am 80/20 on this song. I like it, but I’m not deeply in love.
EDM influenced tracks are often just okay or major bops for me. Hence why I’m going to replay “FANTASIA” to see if it gets better for me.
After my second listen, I will rate this song as a 9/10.
I like it, and I think it’s a grower. After a few more listens, I might enjoy it more.
Alright, I know they released a mini-album titled FANTASIA X. I am going to check it out now.
This album has seven tracks, and they all have electronic elements. I’m new to Monsta X, so I wonder if this is their go-to sound.
I think I will enjoy this album more when I blast it on my headphones, but it’s too late for that now.
Currently, the songs that stood out to me are “IT AIN’T OVER” and “Stand up”
My rating for FANTASIA X is 8.5/10. I will listen to it again later in the day and post more favourites songs on the Facebook page.
“Daechwita” by Agust D –Reaction to Official MV:
I feel this is going to be a theory filled song/MV, so I’m just going to leave an explanation video here –
Now let’s get into it.
I have already mentioned way too many times how much I enjoy hearing traditional music elements in modern songs.
If he keeps this sound for the entire song, then he has my undivided attention.
Thankfully I have English captions since I’m fashionably late on this reaction.
I love the traditional town setting and costumes.
Okay, the beat definitely goes hard.
His flow is not even questionable. I might not be an avid BTS follower, but I know he’s talented.
I’m paying more attention to the lyrics.
Korean rappers have a different level of spice that makes me appreciate rap music.
I never used to enjoy hip-hop before discovering the K hip-hop scene. Their flow, energy and lyrics are exceptional and intriguing.
I wonder what “Daechwita” means. I will watch the explanation video once I finish this review.
Oooh, I love how the traditional elements dropped during the bridge, and his flow switched up entirely. This song is pure 🔥🔥🔥.
Yep, it’s official for me. “Daechwita” is a BOP and a half. I give it a complete 10/10.
I know this is the title track to his 2nd mixtape D-2, so I am checking it out now.
This album has ten songs, and every song hit hard for me in a different way.
Like Baekhyun’s case, I don’t want to pick favourites now because I need a better listen later in the day.
My rating for D-2 by Agust D is a bulletproof 10/10.
“Yours” by Raiden x Chanyeol ft. LEE HI & Changmo –Reaction to Official MV:
LEE HI came in smoothly with her soulful and sultry voice. She always puts me in my feels.
I love the chill instrumental.
I admire rappers that can also sing, and Chanyeol’s voice is blessed.
Excellent work with having Chanyeol and LEE HI go back and forth on one verse.
Their completely different tones and styles of singing makes things more interesting.
I LOVE when featured artists are incorporated throughout the song instead of only appearing in one section.
It doesn’t even have to be them singing or rapping the entire time, but at least some background vocals or continuous interaction between the leading artist and featured one sound way better to me.
Raiden is calling for my attention with that piano and guitar of his. I know I sound like a broken record already, but I love keyboards.😄
I love the beat drop for the chorus. It’s still chill but more bouncy.
The colours and graphics for the music video are perfect.
I love the vocal layering on this.
LEE HI’s vocal runs are soft but beautiful. The production on this song is really exceptional.
Oooh, nice ending with the synthesized/distorted instrumental.
Yep, “Yours” by Raiden x Chanyeol ft. LEE HI & Changmo gets a solid 10/10 from me. Another song for my playlist.
“Sometimes” by Baek Ji Woong(Prod. JungKey) – Reaction to Official MV:
This marks my second song from Baek Ji Woong.
I enjoy his calm and compelling vocal tone.
He’s a very talented ballad singer, and I honestly need to find time to check out his previous releases.
The slight raspiness of his voice is soothing to my ears. Plus, the vibe of this song is relaxing.
This song started out with a soft piano and then paced up a bit with the introduction of a guitar to the mix.
The couple in the music video is adorable.
Is this song about them reminiscing their time together? Doesn’t that mean they broke up?😥
I love the instrumental and vocal progression of this song.
Baek Ji Woong’s high note is smooth, and I love how his vocals floated out at the end.
CLASSIC BALLAD’S ARE SO BEAUTIFUL.
I checked out the English lyrics, and it is about reminiscing the precious moments of a previous relationship.
I really enjoyed listening to “Sometimes” by Baek Ji Woong, and it’s since it falls under one of my favourite genres, I couldn’t help but fall in love with this song.
My rating is a solid 10/10. I already added it to my playlist.
Although I had to stay up late, I enjoyed listening to all these artists. I discovered some quality R&B, Hip-hop and EDM albums. I also got a fantastic ballad track to soothe my soul, so I am pleased. I will be sleeping well tonight.
Recently, I haven’t been posting a lot. I am at that critical point in the semester, where I only have time to study and sleep. That is why this playlist is coming to you guys this late in the season. Winter is almost over, and spring should be here soon. Hence I tried my best to revamp this playlist with a few tracks that could also suit spring. As per usual, I have included short previews for each track.
#. AKMU – How can I love the heartbreak, you’re the one I love
I had to start with AKMU. They are my go-to for this time of the year. They help me feel at peace. “How can I love the heartbreak, you’re the one I love” is one of my favourites from their SAILINGalbum. I listen to this song on my way to school, while studying, and I even use it as my bedtime lullaby. It is that good, so I hope you all love it as well. Also, feel free to check out my album review for SAILING with this link 👉🏼 AKMU – SAILING: Album Review
#. Eric Nam – Hold Me I personally feel that Eric Nam is the perfect selection for spring. His voice gives me the most wonderful tingling sensation ever. “Hold Me” is the kind of song that automatically makes any listener feel loved and cherished. I have written about my love for Eric Nam while covering his content a few times on this blog. So if you need more song suggestions from this amazing artist, simply click on his name tag at the end of this post.
#. DAY6 – I’ll try This is such a lovely track from DAY6. Try to search up the English lyrics because you need to understand how touching this song is. “I’ll try” always make me feel like I am in a warm embrace with someone special. I think it is very fitting for winter. I have ranted about how good DAY6 is a few times on this blog. Honestly, they never disappoint. If you want to read more DAY6 related content, simply click on their name tag at the end of this post.
#. Solar, Kassy – A song from the past A charming duet from two incredible ladies. I absolutely adore this song. The harmonies, melody and high notes are beautiful. I think it is a perfect track for spring. So I hope you all enjoy it as well. I also wrote a review for this song that can be accessed with this link 👉🏼 Solar x Kassy – A Song From The Past: Music Review
#TAEYEON – Wine “Wine” is my favourite track from Taeyeon’s Purpose album. The chorus is infectious, and Taeyeon’s voice during that section is pure bliss. I randomly find myself humming the melody. I am glad that I checked out the full album because I would have missed out on this gem. To read my review for Taeyeon’s Purpose album, including the repackaged version, use these links 👉🏼 TAEYEON – PURPOSE: Album Review
#. Eric Nam – 4AM Yess I included another song from Eric Nam and it also from the same digital single release. I love both songs, so I could not pick one over the other. This track is more upbeat, and I live for the raw vocal runs in this one. The man can sing, and no one can change my opinion. He had a concert in my city recently, but I couldn’t go due to school😭😭😭. Anyways I hope you guys enjoy listening to “4AM”.
#. millic, HAN – Treasure Island “Treasure Island” is a jam but the full Vida album that contains this track is a complete BOP and A HALF. Millic worked perfection, and everyone that was featured on it nailed their part. A full-blown masterpiece. For some reason, Vida is no longer available on Spotify, but I hope he brings it back because I need my jams intact. Honestly, Korean RnB is on another level.
#. Primary, SUMIN, Qim Isle – woozoo Another BOP. Primary is an incredible producer. I discovered this song while reviewing the second part of his PAKTORY EP. To read that review, use this link 👉🏼 Primary – 3-PAKTORYO2: Music Review. Immediately the song started, I was captivated by SUMIN’s voice. Honestly, she should be a bigger name because the lady can sing. “woozoo” always gets me in some kind of turnt up mood that I can’t even explain in words.
#. Punch – Sometimes This is actually my first song from Punch that isn’t an OST for a Korean drama. I love the chill and carefree vibe this track gives off. Punch has a remarkable voice, so I was determined to check out her personal discography and “Sometimes” is my favourite so far from all her songs I have listed to. To read more content about Punch, simply click her name tag at the end of this post.
#. Vincent Blue – Stupid This is the most intriguing song I have heard in a long while. Indeed, music is a compelling tool. There are various ways artists express themselves, and the effect that their expressions have on another individual is incredible. Vincent Blue’s voice and the way he sang this song continually leaves me in awe. He sounds so elegant, especially when he starts those vocal runs that mimic the instruments. “Stupid” is pure art and also an excellent show of intelligent production.
#. IU – The visitor My love for IU soars higher each day along with my undying adoration for her Love poem album. I already wrote a review for it, so I will try not to rant again. If you still need to read my review, use this link 👉🏼 IU – LOVE POEM: Album Review. All the songs on this album are equally amazing as expected from IU, but I chose “The visitor” because I feel it suits this season the most.
#. Dean, Crush, Jeff Bernat – What 2 Do Since I decided to spring things up with a few RnB and neo-soul tracks, I couldn’t leave out Dean. “What 2 Do” is one of my first songs from him, and I still destroy the replay button on this song to date. It is so good. Plus Crush and Jeff Bernat also held their fort. These three amazing singers came together and disrespected me most beautifully. I LOVE!!!😍😍😍
#. Tia Ray – Ready For Love The instrumental on this track is LIT🔥🔥🔥. In fact, the entire 1212album is a groovy anthem. I am so pleased that I randomly discovered this artist. Her voice and energy are perfect. “Ready For Love” always comes on when I need something upbeat but not too loud. Just perfect enough for body rolling. I sit on my bed and dance like the weird human being I am.💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
#. g.o.d – One Candle g.o.d!!!. I love me some first-generation Kpop artists. This song might not fancy some people on the first listen, but I will advise you to give it a second or third try. If you still don’t like it, oh well😂😂😂. We can’t all have the same taste because differences are what make the world interesting. Anyways “One Candle” is one of my favourite classics from g.o.d. The lyrics are beautiful, and the chorus always has me dancing.
#. DAY6 – days gone by
Yes, DAY6 appeared again because according to Spotify, they are my most played Kpop group and I ain’t arguing with facts. My closest friend and I live for this song because of the old school disco vibe. I mean, who can resist a good disco jam with such impressive vocals. There is no way you can see me sitting still when “days gone by” comes on. It becomes a party hall, no matter where I am😂😂😂.
#. Ailee – Reminiscing The powerhouse Ailee is here with her soft and impeccable vocal runs that consistently make me wonder how she sings this song live. Honestly, even after watching a live performance, I am still confused. How does she belt that high-speed line with so much ease? All the same, “Reminiscing” is a beautiful track, and it is precisely the kind of song that I gravitate to during the cold season. To read more Ailee related content, click on her name tag at the end of this post.
#. Urban Zakapa – Nearness Is To Love You all know how I feel about ballads/RnB and Urban Zakapa always nail their tracks. Plus, “Nearness Is To Love” is entirely in English, so I could understand right away. This song is so soothing, and I remember during the first week of discovering it, I couldn’t listen to anything else. The melody was stuck in my head. It is such a beautiful piece, and the vocal quality is to die for.
#. 4Men – Baby Baby This is a song that never fails to get me in my feels. I love it when Spotify recommends new artists to me because I get to try something different every once in a while. I discovered 4Men a few years ago. They are such talented singers and “Baby Baby” is my favourite from them. The vocal prowess they showcase throughout this song is incredible.
#. LEE HI – BREATHE This song became so hard to listen to for a long time, but I am back on it now. I love the message of hope and reassurance that no matter what is happening, you are not alone. So it is okay to take a break and breathe. Even from the initial release, it was a very emotional piece because I was in an awful mental space at the time. “BREATHE” definitely means a lot to me. I hope anyone dealing with trials finds some comfort through this song.
#. Juno Su – Fortunately, We Meet Again I have definitely overplayed this soundtrack from the Chinese drama, Ten Years Late. There is something about the chorus section that soothes my soul, and it perfect for this season. I already featured it as my song for the week and on my list of favourite 2019 OSTs, but I still included in this playlist. Whenever I can’t sleep, I either play “Fortunately, We Meet Again” or rain sounds. That is how much I love this song.
#. Urban Zakapa – Wish There are few very popular OSTs from Goblin, but there are some other late releases that I think did not get enough attention. “Wish” by Urban Zakaba is one of those. This song’s progression is intense and captivating. It literally feels like you are soaring on the power of love. I like to pretend like I am singing along with them because it makes me feel invincible.
#. Park Hyo Shin – Goodbye Hmmm, are there really any words that could describe the amazement that is Park Hyo Shin. The man stuns all the time. I know how good he is, but I still get surprised by each new song. “Goodbye” is a magical piece. It starts out slow, but the vocal prowess that Park Hyo Shin displays from the one minute mark just leaves my mouth hanging wide open, and I ain’t complaining. Yesss…. please bless my ears with your breathtaking pipes.
#. BTOB – Missing You I could write a whole page full of praise and love for BTOB because they are more than deserving of that. With each new album, they continue to impress both as a group and individually. So if you don’t know them, what are you waiting for???🙄🙄😊 Anyways “Missing You” is an excellent song with beautiful vocals and great rap verses. Also, since it is my favourite from Brother Act., it has to be on this playlist.
#. Younha – Dark Clouds I love working on this blog, not just because of my obsession with music and dramas but also because it broadens my horizon. I discover a lot of new things while creating content here. Younha is one of such discoveries. While trying to check out more artists for music review content, I stumbled upon her latest album – UNSTABLE MINDSET,and I was utterly blown away. If you will like to read my review for UNSTABLE MINDSET, use this link 👉🏼 YOUNHA – UNSTABLE MINDSET: Album Review. “Dark Clouds” is a powerful and heartfelt song. It also happens to be one of my faves, so I decided to include it.
#. Lee Moon Sae – A welcome rain Another song which I listed as one of my favourite OSTs from 2019. “A welcome rain” makes me feel emotions that I shouldn’t be experiencing. Yes, I have gone through some sad things, but the way this song calls out my tears is still not explainable. This is a sad one, but I still love it. Anytime I hear it play, I recall Shin Hye-sun’s scenes from Angel’s Last Mission: Love. So maybe that’s why the tears flow because her performance was too good. Also, bravo to Lee Moon Sae for an emotional delivery of this exquisite piece.
#. Paul Kim – Big Heart Paul Kim is one singer that always calls forth my attention. “Big Heart” was his last release for 2019, and I already wrote a review for it. You can access that post with this link 👉🏼 Paul Kim – Big Heart: Music Review. Also, for more content, click on his name tag at the end of this post. Paul Kim was on my first Winter Playlist, and I didn’t even know him so well then. Now, a year later, he is one of my favourite Korean solo acts. His voice is precious, and he is still quite young, so just imagine what he could produce with even more experience. I am excited to hear more songs from him.
#. DAY6 – All Alone I promise that this is my last song from DAY6 on this playlist😂😂😂. I tried my best to have one artist to one song, but people like Eric Nam and DAY6 could not let a sister be great. I really like “All Alone” because of the stripped-down acoustic style of the song. It puts more attention on their voices, and I love, I MEAN I REALLY LOVE to hear them bless me. Ladies and gentlemen, yes, this is for sure the curtain roll on my DAY6 rants in this post. I hope you enjoyed every section. Moving on…
#. Davichi – Dear. Another beautiful set of vocal queens. This song is a chill love and appreciation vibe. Davichi effortlessly nailed each note while still keeping the progression a bit simple. I adore the instrumental for “Dear” because it reminds me of Christmas jingles. Which makes sense since this track was released in December of last year. Anyways, I play Christmas songs throughout the year, so this can be included in this list. I have a review for”Dear” on this blog, it can be accessed with this link 👉🏼 Davichi – Dear: Music Review
#. ATEEZ – Sunrise
ATEEZ is another new discovery, and I have been fangirling over them a lot recently. Currently, I have two stable biases (Park Seonghwa and Kim Hongjoong), but every now and then, I get swayed by other members. After reviewing their most recent album, I went ahead to check out their discography, and “Sunrise” was one of the first songs that caught my attention. I love the message and the heavy drumbeat used for the instrumental. For more ATEEZ content, simply click on their name tag at the end of this post.
#. The Rose – She’s In The Rain Finally The Rose comes into the mix. Another one of my favourite K-bands. I really hope they get good results concerning the recent dispute with their management company. “She’s In The Rain” was the first song I heard from this group, and I immediately fell in love. The Dawnalbum, which contains this song, is also perfect. So all I did was choose my number track from it.
Well, I hope you all were at least intrigued by one or two songs. This playlist is available on YouTube and Spotify with these links: 👉🏼 Youtube Winter 2020
I have always had an interest in photography, but recently, I have been obsessing over magazine pictorials. So I decided to post a few of my favourite photos on here. I will also add in movies/drama posters that I like. (Please Note: none of the pictures are mine. I got them from official websites and social media sites.) This post is just for fun.
First on my list of celeb editorial pictures is known other than the amazing Chinese actor – Chen Kun.
The way the light hits his face in this black & white photo is stunning.
Character Poster for Chen Kun’s upcoming film – Fengshen Trilogy. He looks good. The long hair and beard are doing him justice.
Character Poster for Ruyi (played by Zhou Xun) for the Chinese drama – Ruyi’s Royal Love In The Palace, everything about this poster screams elegance.
Lee Hi looks incredible in the June 2019 Issue for Harper’s BAZAAR Korea.
The beautiful Jisoo graces the latest issue of Harper’s BAZAAR Korea.
I am so glad that I discovered another amazing actor this year. After watching the Chinese drama – Love and Destiny, I am now a big fan of Chang Chen.
The glow is real for Jang Ki-Yong in this HIGH CUT shoot. I also love how the colour of his blazer blends into the background.
The details and colours for the costumes caught my attention. The title of this drama is Ming Dynasty. It just started airing, and I am excited to check it out. I have been waiting for this series for so long.
Han Hyo-Joo’s stance for these pictures is so good. She gives the feeling of power and control.
These are exclusive photos from GQ’s 10th birthday party. The main thing that won me here is the concept.
Yang Se-jong for Harper’s BAZAAR Korea. All I have to say here is – EYES AND LIGHTING, such an incredible shot.
The first poster for the 2020 Chinese drama – Love Is Sweet. I love how cozy they look in this picture. They seem very peaceful.
Taeyeon looks gorgeous in these shots for HIGH CUT. Blonde is her colour.
And last on my list for today is another stunning angel. Chinese actress of Uyghur descent – Gülnezer Bextiyar, also known as Nazha. She looks like a diamond, so shiny
Like I mentioned earlier, this post is just for fun. I wanted to share my recent interest with you all. I have more pictures saved on my phone, so I might be creating a similar post soon.
Artist Info: Code Kunst is a South Korean composer and music producer signed under AOMG. His music fits within the Hip-hop, Rap, and Rnb genre. So far, he has released three studio albums and has two songs that feature Lee Hi. The one I am reviewing today is titled “X,” and the other song which was released just recently this year is titled “XI” (they both seem to enjoy playing with roman numerals).
X by Code Knust(featuring Lee Hi) is a track from his third studio album Muggle Mansionwhich was released in 2017. It tells the story of a lady who is fed up with her boyfriend’s lifestyle and all his broken promises. She is sure that it is time to move on and be with someone else but still finds herself attached to the relationship. Her boyfriend later realizes his mistakes and tries to apologize, but it might be too late.
Review: Lee Hi is one of my favourite soloists, so when I see her name on anything, I know that there is a high chance of me loving it. She really has a beautiful soulful voice, and over the years she has grown as an artist. I just wish that she was given a chance to release more music. Anyways she really did great on this track. I enjoyed the subtle changes in her vocal tone during certain parts of the song.
I really love the beginning of the song, it is quite trance-like. No hard beat was introduced at the very beginning, so we get to enjoy Lee Hi’s voice for a full minute, and then we get a super groovy beat throughout the rest of the song. I also enjoyed the pre-chorus section and the background notes by Lee Hi during the chorus. Music-wise, I believe that this song is a well-produced piece, so a big thumbs up to Code Kunst.
The only thing that threw me off a little bit was the structure of the English lyrics. I am not too sure if it was a style Code Kunst was going for, but most of the English words to me did not seem adequately structured. It all just felt like random phrases, so the connection between sentences was off. Now I read a comment under a lyric video for this song that said they were using African-American Vernacular. I could still understand the lyrics, but I always felt off.
Other than that, It was a well-produced song, with a fantastic melody and Lee Hi mesmerized me with her vocals as usual. So I will recommend you guys to give it a listen. Unfortunately, I cannot provide a link this time around because there is no official music video for this song. So try searching for an audio version on Youtube, Spotify or Apple music. Hopefully, you enjoy it.
