Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: ROSÉ|WayV|SOYOU|Young K x PARKMOONCHI & Jun. K

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while checking out each artist.)

On March 12th, ROSÉ (of BLACKPINK) made her solo debut with the single album – R –. Let’s check out the two songs on the album, and since I am fashionably late, I get to watch the music video for the B-side as well.

I love the visuals for this music video. ROSÉ looks stunning in every outfit and sounds equally beautiful. From the look of things, this song is entirely in English. “On The Ground” sounds like something that would get good play on Western radios. It’s a cute song, and I could see myself coming back to it a few times.

This music video also has fantastic visuals. “Gone” is more on a mid-tempo, and I love that the base instrument is a guitar. I enjoy ROSÉ’s vocal colour on this one more because it sounds raw and unfiltered. I will be playing this song a lot more than the title track.

WayV released their 3rd mini-album, Kick Back, on March 10th. I will react to the title track first and follow up with some brief thoughts on the album.

My babies!!! I’ve been itching to check out their comeback. I can already tell that the choreography is about to be sickening just from the first few seconds. Xiao Jun’s vocals, though! He gets me every single time; I love his voice. The chorus is quite catchy, the vocalists did a beautiful job during that section, + the choreography is fantastic. When this song first started, I wasn’t feeling it that much, but after hearing the chorus and vocal arrangement, I’m all in. Is it my favourite title track from WayV? No, but I LOVE IT.

I enjoyed the vocal quality on this album a lot. The way they layered the vocals, to how well each singer and rapper mixed on each track, every aspect of the production was beautiful. I sense some growth from WayV in this record. Kick Back gets a 10/10 from me and my favourite songs in no particular order are “Action Figure” – “Horizon” and “All For Love”

Up next is SOYOU. She released a single titled – “Good Night, MY LOVE” on March 11th, so let’s check it out.

The music video is interesting. I love how it starts like a short film before the actual song comes in. Soyou deserves more recognition. She has a great voice, and her MVs come with beautiful visuals, so it’s either her company is slacking on promotions, or people are sleeping on her talent. “Good Night, MY LOVE” is a relaxing ballad, and whoever did the backing vocals on this song served awesomeness on all levels. The way the singer’s voice melts into Soyou’s is impressive to hear. I love everything about this song.

Following up is a collaborative single from Young K (of DAY6) and PARKMOONCHI titled “What A Wonderful Word”.

From the few seconds of the instrumental intro, I can already tell that I will enjoy this song a lot. Young K’s voice is so smooth. The man has a fantastic set of pipes, + he looks good. “What A Wonderful Word” is a chill R&B; I love it. Also, PARKMOONCHI did great on the keyboard. I have to check out more from her.

JUN. K (of 2PM) released his 5th Japanese mini-album, THIS IS NOT A SONG, on March 10th. The title track is “Moon Light, 2003” but since it doesn’t have an official music video, I will go straight into sharing my opinions on the album. Before that, here’s the MV for the pre-release single – “THIS IS NOT A SONG, 1929” –

This album is pure R&B goodness with the combo of smooth and powerful vocals from Jun. K. Also fantastic production on the instrumentals for each track. Therefore it gets a 10/10 from me. Honestly, it’s hard to choose a favourite based on my first listen because every song has something fresh to offer. However, if I was recommending songs on this record right now, it will be “THIS IS NOT A SONG, 1929” for the vocal delivery and “River Flows, 1971” for the comforting message.

That’s all for now, and I hope you all enjoyed reading this post. Feel free to give me your opinions on each artist in the comment section🥰.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: ASTRO|Wendy|Chanyeol|Kim Sejeong & Kang Seung Yoon

Hello everyone, I hope you all are doing great!

Over February and March, I was in a zone where my physical energy wasn’t in sync with my to-do list. Hence I had to prioritize certain things over others. Thankfully my workload has reduced, so I’m gradually getting back into the groove of multitasking. On that note, it’s time for some well-deserved music reviews. Before I get into the main subject of this post, allow me to make a shameless plug😅. If you’re into Lifestyle and fashion blogging, kindly check out my lovely friend Lauritta with this link 👉🏽 https://laurittachineke.com. (Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while checking out each artist.)

Alright, I am starting with ASTRO. They released their 2nd album, All Yours, on April 5th. First, I’m going to check out the title track – “ONE”, and move on to share my thoughts on the album.

The music video’s visuals are very fitting for such an upbeat track. I love the outfits and distinctive styling for each member. They all look lovely. On first listen, the rap and pre-chorus sections are what truly got my attention. Overall, “ONE” is a sweet, feel-good song. However, would I say that I am 100% vibing with this song after my first listen? Not exactly, but I could still see myself listening to it once in a while.

This album got me feeling a bit conflicted. After a full listen, it’s pretty evident that this is a pop/EDM-based record. All ten songs are good because I could play them in the background and jam out while completing other tasks. However, as much as I enjoy these songs now, I’m also someone who quickly gets bored with the typical pop genre. Hence I was pretty confused. After going through the album a good FOUR times🤦‍♀️, I decided to enjoy the vocals, energy and production that I love, and when I’m bored of any track, it can be skipped or deleted from my playlists. On that note, my ultimate favourite track is “Dear my universe”, and my rating for All Yours by ASTRO is 8/10.

Let’s move on to Red Velvet’s WENDY. Her solo debut was on April 5th with the mini-album, Like Water. I’ll check out the title track first and then share my thoughts briefly on the album.

The visuals for this music video are enchanting, and Wendy has such a beautiful voice. “Like Water” is my zone; I LOVE IT. There’s something very captivating about this style of music. It’s soothing and perfect for my daily consumption. The instrumental, vocal quality and overall production on this track are excellent. 100% Playlist worthy.

This EP is such a blissful experience. I felt so much peace while going through each song. Wendy’s Vocals and the production quality!!!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I’ve always known how amazing she is as a vocalist, but she indeed came correct with this record. It’s such a perfect balance of R&B and Ballads. Like Water will be on repeat for a long time, and I am excited to see what the soloist – WENDY brings in the future. My ultimate picks on this mini-album are “Like Water” & “Why Can’t You Love Me?”. My rating is 10/10.

Next is CHANYEOL of EXO. He released a new single titled “Tomorrow” on April 6th as part of the SM STATION project.

Okay, the guitar intro and his voice got me in love, and I want to enjoy every second of this feeling + he looks so good. I love the black/white and animated visuals. There’s isn’t much to say than “Tomorrow” is right up my alley, and I can play this song on repeat and never get tired of it. So yea, 100% playlist worthy in my book.

Now unto KIM SEJEONG. She released her 2nd mini-album, I’m, on March 29th. Per usual, I’ll react to the title track – “Warning (feat. lilBOI)” first and follow up with my opinions on the album.

Sejeong looks good, and I love the colourful/playful scheme of this music video. lilBOI’s rap flowed into the song perfectly, but I wish he had more time. Also, Sejeong is so adorable. I love “Warning”; It has a catchy melody.

The playful vibe of this EP is addictive, + Sejeong’s lovely voice makes it even better. My ultimate favourite songs are “Let’s Go Home” and “Warning”. I’m is a beautiful mini-album with five equally captivating songs. I added them all to my playlists and will be revisiting them often. Good job KIM SEJEONG. It’s a 10/10 from me.

To close, I have Kang Seung Yoon of WINNER. I’ve been itching for my baby’s comeback as a solo artist, and finally, I can indulge. On March 29th, Seung Yoon released his 1st album, Page. Let’s check out the title track – “IYAH”, and enjoy this well-deserved album. I’m hoping this incorporates some rock elements like his previous solos.

Yessss!!!! I got what I wanted. The instrumental intro is a delightful melody to my ears + I love the set for the music video, It feels very homely. Okay, hear me out, right now, R. Kelly is not one I mess with, but there’s a particular section in “If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time” that sounds similar to the intro for “IYAH”. It’s just amazing to hear how a few tweaks in chords can create a new song, a different vibe but still ignite some nostalgia of something you’ve once heard. I just felt like pointing that out but let’s move on. The message for this song is beautiful and relatable. Awwww, the music video is so lovely and well-directed. Okay, I got emotional at the end when the choir came in. I LOVE THIS SONG. You’ve come so far, Kang Seung Yoon. I’m so proud😥.

This record blessed me with Kang Seung Yoon‘s incredible vocals and wonderful instrumentalization back to back. All twelve songs are on point, + the production is top-notch. I love that the album has a good balance of different genres/vibes. That way, everyone is bound to find at least one or more songs that fit their taste. It’s hard for me to pick a favourite track right now because they’re all great. So my rating for Page is 10/10.

That’s all I have for this post; I hope you all enjoyed reading this review. I’ll meet you all soon😊.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: IU|BOBBY|DREAMCATCHER & NCT 127

This week had so many comebacks, but I couldn’t react to each artist immediately, so here is my usual ‘catching up’ compilation. In this post, I’ll share brief thoughts on each song, and when there’s an album involved, I’ll list out my favourite tracks.

IU – “Celebrity”

I believe this song is a pre-release single for IU’s upcoming album. First off, this music video’s visuals are stunning, and IU is gorgeous. I love all her outfits, and she sounds fantastic as always. The rhythm and melody for “Celebrity” are very catchy. I think this song encourages everyone not to give up no matter how rocky things get. Even if you start to lose yourself in the process, make a trackback, keep working hard and trust that you’re a star that will surely shine someday. That’s the message I got; hopefully, I’m partially correct. All the same, I love “Celebrity”, and I added it to my playlist already.

BOBBY – “U MAD”

This song is the title track from BOBBY’s 2nd album – Lucky Man. “U MAD” is an intense song, right up in your face! I enjoyed BOBBY’s flow, and the beat + the chorus section is LIT🔥. I like how they stripped out the instrumental during the second verse to let BOBBY bring more heat to his rap. The music video’s visuals are good, + the production on “U MAD” served excellence. From the lyrics, I know this one is for his haters, and I LOVE IT!

The one word for this album is LIT!!! Well deserving of a 10/10 rating because BOBBY served bops back to back. I enjoyed the in-your-face vibes, + the features from other IKON members were so good. Every song on this album is perfect; hence, I can’t exactly pick my favourites now.

DREAMCATCHER – “Odd Eye”

“Odd Eye” is the title track off DREAMCATCHER’s 6th mini-album – Dystopia: Road to Utopia. I love the music video’s distorted visuals and the EDM/Rock elements for the beat. The majority of songs I have heard from this group are heavily rock-influenced, but I appreciate how they still sound different on each track. Dami is a force to be reckoned with because her flow and presence are insane. Would I say “Odd Eye” is my favourite song from DREAMCATCHER? No, but it’s certainly a good vibe.

The album is good; it gave me some anime intro vibes but still followed the title track’s EDM/Rock style. My ultimate favourite song is “Poison Love”. My rating for this record is 8/10, which means it’s okay, but still not something I see myself replaying a lot.

NCT 127 – “First Love”

This song is NCT 127’s pre-release single for their upcoming Japanese album – LOVE HOLIC, which releases on February 17th. The main things I enjoyed on this track were their voices, harmonization, and how they layered the backing vocals; it gave off such a cool effect while listening. The beat is also fire, and overall the production is top-notch. I certainly see myself going back to replay “First Love” a lot, and I’m looking forward to the album.

DAY6 (Even of Day) – The Book of Us : Gluon – Album Review

On August 31st, DAY6’s new sub-unit – Even of Day, released their debut mini-album titled The Book of Us: Gluon – Nothing Can Tear Us Apart. This unit includes Wonpil, Young K, and Dowoon. Being that I am a My Day, I couldn’t skip writing a review for this album.

The mini has seven songs, including the title track – “Where the sea sleeps”

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)

Reaction to Official MV/Title Track:

  • I always enjoy animated music videos, and the plushies are adorable.
  • The plushies are DAY6’s animal characters – The fox (Kke) is Young K, the rabbit (Pil) is Wonpil, the dog (Don) is Dowoon, the bear (Bang) is Sungjin and the chicken (Jje) is Jae.
  • Wonpil soft vocals coming right after Young K’s more resonant voice is just perfect.
  • The melody for the song is smooth and soothing.
  • From the lyrics, I think they’re singing about friendship. The members are going to keep supporting each other through the stormy and happy moments.
  • I was hoping to hear Dowoon’s voice, but maybe he might come in later?
  • Young K’s vocal range/control is incredible, and Wonpil’s voice is simply beautiful.
  • No, their spaceship crashed. What happens now?
  • The instrumental variation for the bridge is excellent. I also love the occasional synthesized beat in that section, and the harmonization/riff between Wonpil and Young K is pure bliss.
  • Yeah, the denimalz are safe and still together.
  • I LOVE THIS MUSIC VIDEO. It’s cute, somewhat sad, and the storyline is engaging.
  • I noticed that Sungjin and Jae’s plushies are in the video.
  • Honestly, I wasn’t expecting a slow song, but as expected of anything related to DAY6, they came through.
  • “Where the sea sleeps” is a lovely song with a fantastic message. The production on the track is superb, and the vocal quality deserves an A+++++++
  • I LOVE IT, and I will listen to a live version before moving on to the album.
  • Even the live performance is heavenly –
  • “Where the sea sleeps” is such a touching song. I don’t have enough words to describe how much I love it.

Album Review:

Here is the highlight medley –

  1. Landing -Intro- (with DENIMALZ 3) – I believe Denimalz refers to DAY6’s animal characters. I’m not sure how they plan to input them into the audio tracks, but let’s see🧐. Alright, 0.34 seconds in, and this is weird but funny😂😂😂. I guess this is supposed to be the denimalz talking in the spaceship. Too cute and creative. The beautiful harmonies layered over such intense instrumental makes for an intriguing opening.
  2. Landed – As expected, the drums on all DAY6’s songs are A+++. Dowoon is an epic drum, and yes, I said drum. The music for this track is hugging their vocals so tightly instead of just being in the background. The production is impressive. I love the falsetto backing vocals, and this song has a lovely melody. “Landed” makes me want to move from side to side. I need to check out the English lyrics later.
  3. Ocean -Interlude 1- (with DENIMALZ 3) – At this point, I know that DENIMALZ 3 refers to the animated plushie’s voice. “Ocean” is an excellent track for bedtime. The whistles are beautiful. The vocal layering on this one is perfect and very soothing.
  4. Where the sea sleeps – I have said it all already.
  5. Forest -Interlude 2- (DENIMALZ 3) – Yes, come through with that soulful harmonization. Oh, the serenity of it all. I AM IN LOVE.
  6. Thanks to – Why does this sound retro-ish? I might be wrong about the retro vibe because I’m no music expert, but I love what I hear. “Thanks to” is another song with a lovely melody and incredible vocals. It makes me want to dance, but I hope the lyrics are not sad. Is that Dowoon’s voice in the background, or is it just Young K singing in a lower pitch? Anyways, Young K went off good on his guitar towards the end.
  7. To be continued -Outro- (Sung by DENIMALZ 3) – The denimalz singing is too adorable, I can’t deal. Cuteness aside, this is a good song. I love the ending keyboard note.

Final Thoughts:

I don’t mind that there are only three main songs on this mini-album because the interludes are equally beautiful. I enjoyed every minute, and I will be replaying the entire record for a long time. Young K and Wonpil served incredible vocals, and the overall production is fantastic. I only wish they had included more of Dowoon’s voice, but I’ll take what I got.

The maknae-line did an admirable job with this debut album. Therefore The Book of Us: Gluon – Nothing Can Tear Us Apart by DAY6 (Even of Day) gets a solid 10/10 from me.

The Rose – Black Rose: Song Of The Week

I finally decided on my song for this week. It’s The Rose’s latest single titled “Black Rose”

For a short profile on this band, use this link 👉🏼 The Rose – Dawn: Album Recommendation.

The Rose released this song on Sunday. I don’t think they plan to promote since some members are off for their mandatory military service. All the same, I am delighted to hear something new from them. I missed their beautiful voices so much. “Black Rose” is a chill and soulful song. It makes me sad, but at the same time, I feel comforted. I love the message that everything will okay, so don’t be afraid. Also, Black Rose is the fandom name, which makes this song extra special. I pray that the boys stay healthy and continue to strive for their dream because they are super talented.

I hope you all enjoy listening to this song as well. If you will like to keep up with The Rose’s activities, here are their new official platforms:

N.Flying – So, 通 (COMMUNICATION): Album Review

On June 10th, N.Flying released their 7th mini-album titled So, (COMMUNICATION). The album has six songs, including the title track “Oh really.”img_8313N.Flying, which is short for New Flying, is a South Korean rap rock band managed by FNC Entertainment. This band was formed in 2013, and they released their first Japanese single – Basket that same year. Later on May 20th of 2015, they officially debuted in Korea. Although the group currently consists of five members, there have been a few changes over the years. N.Flying initially started out with four members – Kwon Kwangjin, Kim Jaehyun, Cha Hun and Lee Seunghyub. The fifth member, Yoo Hweseung, was added in 2017. However, in 2018, Kwon Kwangjin left the band, so he had to replaced by Dongsung earlier this year.

The only song I have heard from this group is “Rooftop”, and since they aren’t like the regular rock bands I listen to, I never had the zeal to check them out. All the same, I am finally here. Now let’s see what they have to offer.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exacts thoughts while listening to each song.)

Reaction to Title Track/Official MV:

  • Thankfully I have English captions.
  • I love the strumming guitar intro, and whoever is singing lead sounds fantastic.
  • The boys all look great.
  • I really love the first singer’s tone. He has a sweet lower register.
  • The music video is cute, and the instrumental is beautiful.
  • I love how the second singer came in with a softer tone and just melted me.
  • The vocals and instruments get a checkmark from me.
  • The set with the phone booth is lovely.
  • I love the chorus as well. It’s quite catchy, and the fact that N.Flying is singing that section in unison makes me want to sing along.
  • So they have three instrument players, and the other two are vocalists?
  • I love the rap-singing style they used for the second verse.
  • They also gave a nice flow when the actual rap came in.
  • Maybe after listening to more songs from them, N.Flying will be added to my list of favourite Korean bands.
  • I noticed that instrumental isn’t too heavy on this song, hence why the vocals really stand out for me.
  • I gave all my attention to the music that I forgot to read the captions.😄
  • I just rewatched it, and they are singing about relationship issues. Something along the lines of how hard it is to say goodbye and not wanting to let go. I think they also said something about their partner pretending not to care.
  • Okay, I love this song. Now let’s move on to the album.

Album Review: img_8310Here is the album preview –

  1. Oh really. – I absolutely love this song, so I am going to enjoy my 3 minutes and 16 seconds here.
  2. FLOWER FANTASY – Wow, this starts right away, and I love the vocal intro. N.Flying’s vocalists are incredible, and the instrumental for this song is more in your face compared to the title track. The guitar riff for this is insane. Honestly, they came hard with the instrumentalization, and I am completely in love with “FLOWER FANTASY” It sounds like something I could hear during an emotional scene of an anime. The lower register of the lead vocalist gets me every time. He is too good, and my ears are getting blessed. Their drummer is also giving me life, but the guitar players are A++++++++ on this track. LIKE WHAT???… this is insane. It’s a soft song but still hits in the right places…a whole mood.
  3. YOUTH – I love how this song came in right away. I will say this has a similar vibe to the title track, but “YOUTH” has more rhythmic drumming. Once again, fantastic instrumentalization, vocals and beautiful runs. The melody for this song is lovely and really catchy. I like how they included some finger snaps to the instrumental, it adds a sweet spice to the mix. I don’t know why but the vocalization on this track sounds very indie to me. That’s the only way I can explain the style I’m hearing. One thing I love about bands is that they give the best of both worlds in concerns to vocals and instruments. A good rock band is always pure eargasm. It’s a good sign that I am enjoying every song.
  4. I’M GONNA – The beginning is giving me a slight touch of jazz. This also has some hip-hop influence. I am enjoying the beat and vibe of this track. The chorus is excellent. I definitely expected some rapping once this started, and I got good flows. I love the adlibs because they hit beautifully out of nowhere, and I am here for the energy from N.Flying on this track. What??… I was not expecting that high note at the end. It was too perfect. Alright, this is another excellent song on the album.
  5. Last Song – It looks like we have reached the slow track of this album. Oh damn, their voices give me chills, and I absolutely adore the blend between the two different vocal tones. The guitar riff on this is a blessing to hear. Rock ballads are supreme and deserve to be heard on every album. I want to say this is my favourite, but I have equally enjoyed every song so far. Oooh, I love how they sang in unison towards the end, while the main singer powered on top with insane vocal runs and high notes. The ending is so full and beautiful. THANK YOU, N.Flying.👏👏👏👏👏👏
  6. E-YO – The last song already😥. I love that every song on this album starts right away. I love the rhythm for this one, it is groovy. Okay, at this point, the vocalists are disrespectful. They just slapped me with some crazy falsetto notes. The drummer deserves a round of applause for his skills. The chorus is perfect, and I feel the need to sing along. This song would be amazing live, I can already picture it. The instrumental progression is terrific. I have nothing more to say because “E-YO” is a well-produced BOP. N.Flying has really impressed me with this album. I am happy that I gave them a chance.

Final Thoughts:

This album was a beautiful mood all through. I genuinely enjoyed all six songs, and I cannot even pick a fave. I was utterly blown away by their vocalists, and the instrument players also brought their A-game to this record. I have nothing to criticize, and I am officially a fan. I will be looking forward to future projects from them because I am impressed. Great job, boys.

My rating for N.Flying’s 7th mini-album So, (COMMUNICATION), is a solid 10/10.

A Sweet Album Recommendation From My Fave K-Band – The Rose

I Initially wanted to make this a song of the week post, but because I have been listening to this EP a lot recently, I couldn’t pick just one song. I love all the songs on The Rose’s second mini-album – Dawn, hence why I decided to make an album recommendation instead. 16402744_1146987525399874_1946048165734708927_oThe Rose is a South Korean band managed by J&Star Company. The group has four members: Kim Woo-sung, Park Do-Joon, Lee Ha-Joon and Lee Jae-hyeong. They made their official debut on August 3rd, 2017, with the digital single – “Sorry”. Before their mainstream appearance, they were already an indie group that wrote their own music while posting covers of songs on YouTube. When asked why they are called ‘The Rose’, Woo-sung said that it is a name to show that music can be like the beauty of flowers and also like the sharpness of thorns. The fandom name for this band is Black Rose.

Before I talk about their music, let me get something off my chest. The Rose currently has a lawsuit filed against their agency, J&Star Company. Apparently, the company has been enforcing unreasonable schedules, and there have been problems regarding payments since their debut. For these reasons, the boys want to terminate their contract. J&Star Company refuted all their claims and announced the decision to sue the boys for violation of contract terms and defamation of character. From my personal experience of being into Kpop for about seven years now, I smell a fat lie, and it’s not from The Rose. Most Korean talent agencies are messed up. All I hope for is that the boys get through this ordeal successfully and find a better space to create their music. If you will like to read more details about this case, use these links – The Rose Request Termination of Contract.  👉🏼 J&Star Company Refutes Band’s Claims

Now back to the primary purpose of this post. The second mini-album – Dawn has four songs + an instrumental for the title track – “She’s In The Rain”

img_7488

  1. I Don’t Know You:
  2. She’s In The Rain: Lyric Video – Live Version –
  3. Take Me Down:
  4. Insomnia:

Every song on this EP is beautiful and very touching. This band’s vocalists are amazing. My bias is Woo-sung because his voice gives me major chills every time. He has such a distinctive soulful tone that soothes me. I hope you all enjoy listening to Dawn by The Rose as much as I do. 💕💕💕

English Lyrics:

“I Don’t Kow You”

I don’t know you
But you make me wonder who you are
With the loose jeans
And a casual hairdo
I want to know you

I don’t know you
You smile without saying anything
Sometimes the words I say
Are granted
Just want to know you

Do you want me
Like I just wanna know you girl
Your mysterious smile
Makes me wonder

I don’t know you
A compass pointing only to you
A small full-stop of
To stump your body
Let me travel you

Do you want me
Your lover who will never change
Even your bitterness
Makes me obsessed (Source – 👉🏼 Color Coded Lyrics)

“She’s In The Rain”

Do you hear me
a gloomy day covered in gray fog
I’m afraid I’m blind now
I’ve lost interest in everything

Do you hear me
As I walked down the street, I saw a different way
I turned around and found no one
The dreams I’ve been after, I follow them

I’m dying inside
I wanna think that it’s a lie why why
Even if I shout there is no answer
A flood of loneliness
In the rain rain rain

She’s in the rain
When I look at how beautiful you are
Time stops
It’s hard to even open my eyes now
No whoa, she’s in the rain

Do you hear me
Even if you’re hurt, you don’t show it
I’m so scared of seeing the end
In your eyes, I can see the emptiness

She’s dying inside
She wants to think that it’s a lie why why
Even if I call her, she’s not answering
A shower of rain
In the rain rain rain

She’s in the rain
When I look at how beautiful you are
Time stops
It’s hard to even open my eyes now
No whoa she’s in the rain

In my memory
Your traces spread
As if the rain has soaked them up
I lose track of where to go
In your tears
Of frozen reality

She’s in the rain
You wanna hurt yourself I’ll stay with you
You wanna make yourself go through the pain
It’s better to be held than holding on
No whoa

We’re in the rain
In this falling rain
I fill the scattered you
So I could see how beautiful you are
No whoa we’re in the rain (Source – 👉🏼 Color Coded Lyrics)

“Take Me Down”

Lonely you are
Your scars that are growing
The door to your heart is closed
You try to force it
Like a kid
But it’s already too late

You won’t be able to turn
Back in the time that you abandoned
I wanna say goodbye
I’m letting go off all of the regrets
I’m erasing them in my head
I just wanna say goodbye

Take me now
Please undo my chain of pain
If I can scape
Like the fire that is growing bigger

Can you take me down?
I’m under cold rain again
If I can avoid it
Like being dull
Can you take me down?

Rough way of speaking
Our view that’s changing
like a seasonal flow
A dark tattoo
My carved mistake
It’s already too late

On the edge of a dark heart
Even the lost memories
I just wanna say goodbye
I can’t just stand there
In a cold heart
I just wanna say goodbye

Take me now
Please undo my chain of pain
If I can scape
like the fire that is growing bigger

Can you take me down?
I’m under cold rain again
If I can avoid it
Like being dull
Can you take me down?

Oh take me now
Please undo my chain of pain
If I can scape
Like the fire that is growing bigger

Can you take me down?
I’m under cold rain again
If I can avoid it
I become dull
Can you take me down? (Source – 👉🏼 Color Coded Lyrics)

“Insomnia”

I wish you told me
“Hold on to me”
I’ll be reluctant
To turn back

The memory that I thought I’d forgotten
It devours me
Where are you now

Just go away
Stay here in my heart
Just go away
Stay here in my heart

I don’t know me
I’m standing somewhere in the shaking ground
It’s just that I already
Passed you

I can’t sleep
Grab onto me
I can’t sleep
I’m going back

I know I’m stupid
What can I do about that?
I have so many things
I couldn’t do

I close my eyes and count the stars,
I still can’t sleep
Why are you still here

Just go away
Stay here in my heart
Just go away
Stay here in my heart

I don’t know me
I’m standing somewhere in the shaking ground
It’s just that I already
Passed you, I can’t sleep

I’m left alone, time goes by, time goes by.
I can’t stop thinking about you.
Even if it’s a nightmare or a dream,
I want to see you

Just go away
You’re standing in my heart.
Just go away
Just go away

I don’t know me
I’m standing somewhere in the shaking ground.
It’s just that I already.
Passed you

I can’t sleep
Grab onto me
I can’t sleep
I’m going back

I can’t sleep
What can I do about that?
I can’t sleep
It’s only you

I know it’s over
I guess it’ll be fine (Source – 👉🏼 Color Coded Lyrics)

DAY6 – The Book of Us: The Demon: Album Review

DAY6 just released their 6th mini-album titled The Book of Us: The Demon. It has eight songs, including the title track “Zombie” img_5471_originalDAY6 is a South Korean band managed by JYP Entertainment. The group currently has five members: Jae, Sungjin, Young K, Wonpil and Dowoon. In 2015, they debuted as a six-member band with the EP – The Day. Former member, Junhyeok left the group in 2016. All members of DAY6 are personally involved in the production of their songs. Basically, they write and compose their own music.

On May 10th, DAY6 announced their decision to suspend all team activities until further notice because some members are dealing with anxiety. So, unfortunately, The Book of Us: The Demon will not be getting any promotion, but I don’t care as far as the boys are healthy and safe. That’s all that truly matters to me as their fan. For more details, read this article 👉🏼 DAY6 Temporarily Suspends Team Activities To Focus On Mental Health.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exacts thoughts while listening to each song.)

Reaction to Title Track/Official MV:

  • Thankfully I have English subs.
  • I don’t exactly know what to expect from this song since I tried my best to avoid the album sample and music teasers.
  • Nice, we’re starting out with some heavy drums. I see you, Dowoon.
  • Young K is taking the lead on this track, and he sounds great as always.
  • My baby Jae, he always looks good blonde.😍😍😍
  • Yess, Wonpil. Please bless my ears with your smooth vocals.
  • The lyrics are very relatable. There are times when life suddenly becomes a tasteless hassle.
  • One minute you’re happy, and then you gradually fall into a down period without realizing why for a very long time. Everything becomes a burden, and nothing seems exciting any longer.
  • I have felt that pain and frustration, so I know it hits hard, but I can assure you from personal experience that the healing process is absolutely beautiful.
  • So to anyone whose current emotions mirror that of this song, please remember that you’re doing great, and it’s okay to take things one step at a time. Try to take a step back and relax your mind.
  • Everyone needs a break from rigorous routines. Your mental health and inner peace are way more important than anything else. Remember, “THIS TOO SHALL PASS.” I LOVE YOU ALL. ❣️❣️❣️
  • I’m so happy they included the English lyrics quickly because it helped me connect more with this song.
  • Now, let’s get back to the music.
  • Woonpil’s first part brought in more melody into this song, and I love how Sungjin came in during that section.
  • Sungjin seems to have fewer parts in this song.
  • I am slowing getting into the vibe of “Zombie”, but let’s see how the chorus sounds.
  • Jae’s voice, though.💕 His tone is versatile, and the way he plays around the notes always gets me.
  • I love that this song is entirely different from their previous comeback, and they’re still killing it.
  • The chorus is fantastic as I expected. Not super upbeat but still great.
  • The instrumental is beautiful and well-produced.
  • I love the graphics and visuals for the music video.
  • The melody for the line – “Yeah, we live a life” is so catchy.
  • The way Jae sang – “This meaningless life” gave me life.😊 I know this is a melancholic song, but that part made me melt.
  • Yess, Sungjin is finally on the chorus. His voice always suits the climax of their songs.
  • This second chorus seems a bit more intense than the first drop.
  • I have to go back and confirm it.
  • Yep, I was right. The first chorus didn’t include guitars until the instrumental solo, but this second drop came right in with a strong guitar riff.
  • It’s official, I am into “Zombie”. It took me a while, but once I heard that “yeah we live a life” melody a few times and the chorus, I FELL IN LOVE.
  • As always, DAY6 didn’t disappoint, and I am ready to fully accept this era’s sound and vibe.
  • Yesss, Wonpil, come through with your soothing vocal.
  • I love the bridge. WAIT A MINUTE… did I just hear a subtly modulation? Wow, I’m in love.
  • I love how the drums dropped out after the modulation. Then Young K and Jae smoothly took us to the end with just a piano.
  • That was a soothing and perfect way to close such a beautiful song.
  • “Zombie” is definitely going on my playlist.
  • Thank you, DAY6, for creating such a lovely and relatable song.
  • Also, congratulations on charting Top 10 on Melon.👏👏👏
  • Thank you to JYP Entertainment for putting the well being of boys first before any promotion.
  • I pray they come back healthier and stronger.

Album Review: img_5659The Book of Us: Entropy is my favourite from them now, but let’s see if The Book of Us: The Demon can beat it. Here is the album sampler –

  1. Day and Night – I love the instrumental, most especially the drumbeat. DAY6 never fails to bring something new each time they release an album. Their voices make me melt because they all sound beautiful. “Day and Night” is groovy, but I know the lyrics will be deep. I will read the English translations for the B-sides once I’m done with this review. For now, I just want to take in the music. I love this song’s melody. Honestly, they are such good composers and songwriters. Wow, the vocals on this are giving me life. I wish I could sing along. Also, I want to attend a DAY6 concert so bad. Oooh, the tempo suddenly increased a bit for the bridge. The vocal runs in the background are perfect, and now we’re ending things on the regular rhythm. I LOVE THIS TRACK, I was swinging from side to side the entire time. This is such a solid start for the album. I need to listen to “Day and Night” again. I just noticed that Dowoon is singing during the call and response sections. Nice.
  2. Zombie – I am going to listen to this one for a while before moving on. Once again, can I just praise DAY6 for creating the most lovely and catchy melodies? 👏👏👏👏 The ending of this song gets me in my feels.
  3. Tick Tock – Nice shallow guitar entry. Plus, the beat drop on Young K’s vocal entry is perfect. Honestly, DAY6’s entire discography is a masterpiece, in my opinion. The Book of Us: The Demon definitely focuses more on deep lyrics and dark/mixed emotions, so I love this era. I could include the lyric videos at the end of this post for anyone interested. Wonpil’s voice makes me feel like I’m floating in the sky. His vocal runs on this track are light and peaceful. Yes, Sungjin come through with your raspy and powerful tone. I love how they sing – “tick-tock, tick-tock.” DAY6 stays, giving me bop to bop. “Tick Tock” has a jazzy vibe, and I am living for this slow groove.
  4. Love me or Leave me – Another song with a guitar entry, but this is more sharp compared to the last one. WOW!!! The way Wonpil came in gave me chills. I LOVE whatever that repetitive distorted voice is in the background. Okay, I am living for those deep rhythmic claps. WAIT A MINUTE… this song is very different, and I like it. The production on this track is insanely good. I love how they’re singing in unison. The harmonies are blessing ears. The synthesized instrumental for the pre-chorus section is so perfect. Dowoon, I hear you on those drums. He is too good, and he came through big time on this song. The chorus is a vibe. This is 🔥🔥🔥. I love the electronic sound. All songs so far have been incredible, but “Love me or Leave me” took things to a whole new level that I can’t even explain in words. The build-up before the chorus is too damn epic. “Baby, love me or leave me tonight.” 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
  5. STOP – Are we going hard rock on this one? I don’t mind. Oh, I see it now… we are in the upbeat section of the album. All I need now is to be in a car while blasting this song on the highest volume. I LOVE the rhythm, and the instrumental is fire. Plus, the chorus drop just transported me to another universe. Nice touch with one person starting a line and all the boys coming in at the end in unison. It’s so good to hear their harmonies. I also hear some beautiful background harmonization, which is giving me life. I’m just here dancing because “STOP” is a JAM, people!!! This song really fits Sungjin’s voice, and he didn’t come to play either. THIS IS MY FAVOURITE ON THE ALBUM, AND ALL THE SONGS BE GIVING ME MAJOR LIFE👏👏👏. I ain’t moving on to the next track just yet. This is going to be enjoyed fully.
  6. 1 to 10 – Intriguing start. It’s like with every comeback, Dowoon gets better because the drums are speaking to my soul. This is another upbeat track, and I already love the melody – “1 to 10, 1 to 10.” Coming from “STOP” almost made me miss the distinct features of this song because I was comparing both. So let’s restart “1 to 10”. Alright… The guitar players are clearly finessing their skills. Young K sounds so glorious on the chorus. The tune and pause they use when singing “nobody loves you… more than me baby.” really calls for the listener’s attention. I love how the intense instrumental dropped out for the bridge, and now we have this heavily synthesized sound and some falsetto singing. This is pure eargasm. Dowoon did such an excellent job on the ending drums. He definitely owns this song.
  7. Afraid – Okay, this is the slowest song on this album and also a nice close since the next track is an English version of “Zombie” The soft guitar start and drumline style beat is beautiful and very fitting. I love the “oooh, oooh, oooh” in the background. Young K is really killing the hooks on this album and Jae with that “I’m so afraid, I’m so afraid” is a whole mood. This track is relaxing but also intense on the chorus. I love the slight beat switch up during the bridge and how they slowed things down before returning to the regular tempo. “Afraid” is lovely.
  8. Zombie (English Version) – At least, I can push this version on my friends who are not into kpop, LOL. I also love this version as much as the Korean one.

Final Thoughts:

The Book of Us: The Demon IS AN ALBUM.🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 DAY6 created a masterpiece. They brought their A+++++ game for this comeback, and I enjoyed every minute spent listening to them slay my life with each song. I was super excited about this new album, so I am glad that it lived up to my expectations. I don’t know yet if this beats The Book of Us: Entropy for me. However, what I’m sure of is that this album is epic, PERIODTTTT. Therefore, my rating is a solid and wholesome 10/10.

Once again, I pray for the boys to feel better and return stronger. Now, I’m off to go read the English lyrics.

Lyric videos are in the same order as the album –
