Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: IU|Baekhyun|Park Bom|Kim Sungkyu & Jackson Wang

(Please note โ€“ this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while checking out each artist.)

On March 25th, IU returned with her 5th album, LILAC. First, I will give my reaction to the title tracks “Lilac” and “Coin” and follow up with a brief opinion on the album.

I’m never disappointed when it comes to IU; hence reacting to her songs feels more like an experience to discover new favourites. She is such a stunning lady, and vocal-wise, she sounds fantastic on this track. It’s nice to see her dancing. “Lilac” has some elements of retro/jazz, and I enjoy those genres a lot. The colours for the MV are pretty and nicely depict the spring season.

Once again, with that underlying retro/jazz sound. The set, lighting, outfits and direction for this music video are top-notch, + the choreography is captivating. Among the two title tracks, “Coin” is my favourite. IU’s vocal quality on this is so smooth, and the beat is groovy. I love this for me!!!!

This album was a VIBE from start to finish. A complete masterpiece, in my humble opinion, because IU did not disappoint. I enjoyed the infusion of different musical styles like r&b, ballad, retro and a sprinkle of jazz. The production quality is tight; her vocalization was on point for every song, + I always live for the intricate melodies on IU’s songs. Now, all ten songs are playlist-worthy, but my top picks in order are – “My Sea” – “Troll” – “Flu” – “Empty Cup”, and “Hi Spring Bye”. My rating for LILAC is a solid 10/10.

Up next is BAEKHYUN. He released his 3rd mini-album, Bambi, on March 30th. As usual, I’ll check out the title track first and then share my thoughts on the album after.

From the thumbnail of this music video, I can already tell I’ll love this. The black & white visuals are serving sensual energy, + the quality of the music video is insane; it’s very cinematic. I know Baekhyun is fine, but this suit and fedora look is taking things to a whole new level. The beat is groovy, his voice is smooth, and the choreography is perfect. I am in awe of the beauty that I am currently witnessing. He came to serve with all the vocals!! I LOVE THIS FOR ME!!!!

The vocal disrespect on this album is too much for me to comprehend and should be deemed illegal๐Ÿ˜‚. Like did Baekhyun have to show off and come this hard? Now you all know how I feel about my Rs&Bs, hence I seriously don’t have the right words to describe what I just experienced. What the heck was the vocal insanity on “All I Got”? Nah, I can’t; I just can’t!!! This mini-album, Bambi, was created especially for me. I AM IN LOVE. Therefore, it gets a bulletproof 10/10 for the rich goodness.

It’s time for some Park Bom. She released a new single titled “Do Re Mi Fa Sol (feat. Changmo)” on March 31st.

It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Park Bom, so it feels good to hear her singing. I love the vibe of this song. The music video’s visuals are also pretty, and she looks great in every shot and outfit. Changmo came into the mix so beautifully, and his voice added a nice texture in the background to Park Bom’s section. I love this, so it’s a yes for me.

Next is Kim Sung Kyu of INFINITE. On March 29th, he dropped his 1st single album, Won’t Forget You. Let’s start with the title track – “Hush”, and follow up with the other two songs from this release.

First off, he looks gorgeous with blonde hair. Also, fun fact – INFINITE was my first experience with Kpop, so the bond is strong on this one. I love the natural scenery for this music video. Kim Sung Kyu’s voice is beautiful, and the instrumental for this track is top-notch. I am so happy that every artist has been serving amazing tunes on this post. I love this song. It’s playlist-worthy and will be on repeat for a long time. Sorry, not sorry, neighbours๐Ÿคญ.

All three songs on this album are equally fantastic, but my favourite is “Hush”. I love that the base instrument on all tracks is a guitar. Songs with guitars as their first instrument always put me in a happy place. Kim Sung Kyu’s 1st single album – Won’t Forget You, gets a 10/10 from me.

Closing this post is Jackson Wang. He released a new single titled “Leaving Me Love You” on March 26th.

Why is he always in a restaurant? At least this time, he’s part of the kitchen staff๐Ÿ˜‚. Is it the same actress from his previous videos? Hmm, I don’t think so; this lady looks different to me. I love the mid-tempo vibe of this song, and the melody for the chorus is catchy. It makes me want to sing along. Jackson sounds beautiful, and I think this is my favourite slower tempo song from him. 100% playlist worthy.

Wow, it’s been an incredible ride with this post. My playlist grows fatter with each review. I’m starting to lose track of all the songs there, but it’s always fun to share how each release makes me feel. So that’s all I have, for now. See you all soon๐Ÿ’•.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: ASTRO|Wendy|Chanyeol|Kim Sejeong & Kang Seung Yoon

Hello everyone, I hope you all are doing great!

Over February and March, I was in a zone where my physical energy wasnโ€™t in sync with my to-do list. Hence I had to prioritize certain things over others. Thankfully my workload has reduced, so Iโ€™m gradually getting back into the groove of multitasking. On that note, itโ€™s time for some well-deserved music reviews. Before I get into the main subject of this post, allow me to make a shameless plug๐Ÿ˜…. If youโ€™re into Lifestyle and fashion blogging, kindly check out my lovely friend Lauritta with this link ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ https://laurittachineke.com. (Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while checking out each artist.)

Alright, I am starting with ASTRO. They released their 2nd album, All Yours, on April 5th. First, I’m going to check out the title track – “ONE”, and move on to share my thoughts on the album.

The music video’s visuals are very fitting for such an upbeat track. I love the outfits and distinctive styling for each member. They all look lovely. On first listen, the rap and pre-chorus sections are what truly got my attention. Overall, “ONE” is a sweet, feel-good song. However, would I say that I am 100% vibing with this song after my first listen? Not exactly, but I could still see myself listening to it once in a while.

This album got me feeling a bit conflicted. After a full listen, it’s pretty evident that this is a pop/EDM-based record. All ten songs are good because I could play them in the background and jam out while completing other tasks. However, as much as I enjoy these songs now, I’m also someone who quickly gets bored with the typical pop genre. Hence I was pretty confused. After going through the album a good FOUR times๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ, I decided to enjoy the vocals, energy and production that I love, and when I’m bored of any track, it can be skipped or deleted from my playlists. On that note, my ultimate favourite track is “Dear my universe”, and my rating for All Yours by ASTRO is 8/10.

Let’s move on to Red Velvet’s WENDY. Her solo debut was on April 5th with the mini-album, Like Water. I’ll check out the title track first and then share my thoughts briefly on the album.

The visuals for this music video are enchanting, and Wendy has such a beautiful voice. “Like Water” is my zone; I LOVE IT. There’s something very captivating about this style of music. It’s soothing and perfect for my daily consumption. The instrumental, vocal quality and overall production on this track are excellent. 100% Playlist worthy.

This EP is such a blissful experience. I felt so much peace while going through each song. Wendy’s Vocals and the production quality!!!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ I’ve always known how amazing she is as a vocalist, but she indeed came correct with this record. It’s such a perfect balance of R&B and Ballads. Like Water will be on repeat for a long time, and I am excited to see what the soloist – WENDY brings in the future. My ultimate picks on this mini-album are “Like Water” & “Why Can’t You Love Me?”. My rating is 10/10.

Next is CHANYEOL of EXO. He released a new single titled “Tomorrow” on April 6th as part of the SM STATION project.

Okay, the guitar intro and his voice got me in love, and I want to enjoy every second of this feeling + he looks so good. I love the black/white and animated visuals. There’s isn’t much to say than “Tomorrow” is right up my alley, and I can play this song on repeat and never get tired of it. So yea, 100% playlist worthy in my book.

Now unto KIM SEJEONG. She released her 2nd mini-album, I’m, on March 29th. Per usual, I’ll react to the title track – “Warning (feat. lilBOI)” first and follow up with my opinions on the album.

Sejeong looks good, and I love the colourful/playful scheme of this music video. lilBOI’s rap flowed into the song perfectly, but I wish he had more time. Also, Sejeong is so adorable. I love “Warning”; It has a catchy melody.

The playful vibe of this EP is addictive, + Sejeong’s lovely voice makes it even better. My ultimate favourite songs are “Let’s Go Home” and “Warning”. I’m is a beautiful mini-album with five equally captivating songs. I added them all to my playlists and will be revisiting them often. Good job KIM SEJEONG. It’s a 10/10 from me.

To close, I have Kang Seung Yoon of WINNER. I’ve been itching for my baby’s comeback as a solo artist, and finally, I can indulge. On March 29th, Seung Yoon released his 1st album, Page. Let’s check out the title track – “IYAH”, and enjoy this well-deserved album. I’m hoping this incorporates some rock elements like his previous solos.

Yessss!!!! I got what I wanted. The instrumental intro is a delightful melody to my ears + I love the set for the music video, It feels very homely. Okay, hear me out, right now, R. Kelly is not one I mess with, but there’s a particular section in “If I Could Turn Back The Hands Of Time” that sounds similar to the intro for “IYAH”. It’s just amazing to hear how a few tweaks in chords can create a new song, a different vibe but still ignite some nostalgia of something you’ve once heard. I just felt like pointing that out but let’s move on. The message for this song is beautiful and relatable. Awwww, the music video is so lovely and well-directed. Okay, I got emotional at the end when the choir came in. I LOVE THIS SONG. You’ve come so far, Kang Seung Yoon. I’m so proud๐Ÿ˜ฅ.

This record blessed me with Kang Seung Yoon‘s incredible vocals and wonderful instrumentalization back to back. All twelve songs are on point, + the production is top-notch. I love that the album has a good balance of different genres/vibes. That way, everyone is bound to find at least one or more songs that fit their taste. It’s hard for me to pick a favourite track right now because they’re all great. So my rating for Page is 10/10.

That’s all I have for this post; I hope you all enjoyed reading this review. I’ll meet you all soon๐Ÿ˜Š.

SuperM – Tiger Inside: Kpop Music Review

It took me a while, but I’m here now. Let’s check out SuperM’s latest digital single – “Tiger Inside”

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV:

  • Starting with Ten always gets my attention. HE LOOKS FINEEEE!!!
  • “100” wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, so I have my fingers crossed on this one.
  • I love the entry beat and melody.
  • Nah, does Mark have a mullet?
  • Honestly, mullets are either a hard no or a subtle pass for me.
  • I love the instrumental. It’s giving me a dark/martial arts vibe.
  • I’ve noticed that the melodies in most SuperM songs change too quickly. I don’t know if it’s just me, but before my ear can adapt to a sound, new sections come in with totally different rhythms.
  • These sudden changes make it hard for me to enjoy the song on my first listen, but I appreciate the experimental production style.
  • I’m just 0.43 seconds into “Tiger Inside” and am hoping they serve.
  • Okay, Mark is rocking the mullet. I’m not mad.
  • Taeyong was disrespectful with that growl during his rap.
  • This pandemic is causing SM Entertainment to go back to their box music video ways. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
  • I still love the visuals, though. It’s perfect for the theme of this song.
  • That deep black eyeliner on Mark is fire.
  • Baekhyun is always going off in all their songs.
  • My favourite outfits are the black/blue and gold ones –
  • I’m going to listen to this song again without the visuals before giving my final thoughts.
  • After paying more attention to the vocals and music, I can see myself getting down with “Tiger Inside”. My ears love it more with each new listen.
  • I enjoyed a few melodies here and there. I absolutely love the rap flows, but I’m not in love with the entire song yet.
  • Therefore it gets a 9/10 from me.

SuperM – 100: Kpop Music Review

SuperM just released a new digital single titled “100”, so let’s check it out. img_2911SuperM is a South Korean boy group managed by SM Entertainment and Capitol Records. The group consists of seven members – Taemin from SHINee, Baekhyun & Kai from EXO, TaeyongMark from NCT 127 and finally TenLucas from WayV. They officially debuted on October 4th, 2019, with a self-titled EP.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV:

  • Oh, sweet whispering harmony.
  • I love Lucas’ intro. They might not give him many parts, so its good to see him first.
  • Very energetic start, and all the boys look good.
  • I am enjoying the colourful and techno edits on this music video.
  • Another EDM track, but let’s see how it goes.
  • Ten, Ten, TEN!!! My boy always looks beautiful.๐Ÿ˜
  • Okay, Mark, come in with the flow, and Baekyun slid in perfectly with his soft voice. His vocals are top-notch.
  • I can see the budget on this music video was limitless.
  • SuperM’s music videos are always iconic.
  • The futuristic visuals for this song are stunning.
  • Their makeup artist really went in with black and red eyeliners.๐Ÿ˜‚
  • Taemin is always looking like a snack that I can only admire from afar. I love him.
  • Okay, whoever put those grayish-blue contacts on Ten deserves a raise.
  • Choreography wise, the boys are killing things.
  • I really love the energy of this song.
  • I think my favourite section is the bridge with Taemin breakdown and Baekyun’s iconic high note.
  • Alright. I’m going to listen to this song again before giving my final thoughts.
  • “100” by SuperM is a great song. I like it, but I’m not in love.
  • I might come to really enjoy it after a few more plays, but as of now, it gets a 9/10 from me.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks: EXO-SC|Crush|JEONG EUN JI

(Please note โ€“ This is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)

“1 Billion Views” by EXO-SC (Feat. MOON)

img_1293_original

Reaction to Official MV:

  • I love their drip and outfits. They both be looking good.
  • Chanyeol’s voice at the beginning tho, It’s so deep and sexy ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿคญ.
  • I appreciate the vocal layering on this track. It feels like an eargasm๐Ÿ˜‚.
  • As the two rappers in EXO, I was expecting them to take the hardcore rap route, but they are giving us smooth retro vocals.
  • My favourite outfits are the blazer looks.
  • I love the music video’s visuals and the arcade concept.
  • This line  ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ”I cry I cry, I cry…” is so catchy. The entire chorus makes me want to sing along.
  • Oh, I forgot that this song has a featured artist until she came in. I love her voice; it blends well with Chanyeol and Sehun.
  • Finger clicking in any song instantly captures my attention, and this one makes me want to dance.
  • I don’t need to say much, I LOVE “1 Billion Views” from EXO-SC.
  • It gets a 10/10 rating from me.

Reaction to pre-release single “Telephone”

  • Love how this started right away, and the instrumental is bouncy.
  • Honestly, the vocal layering on both songs is so seamless.
  • It’s also lovely to hear how well Changyeol and Sehum harmonize.
  • The animation for this music video is charming.
  • I live for when Chenyeol goes into his lower register. It’s so sensual.๐Ÿฅฐ
  • I want Sehum’s colourful sweater.
  • “Telephone” is the perfect head-bopping song.
  • Okay, that black sweater look on Sehun is a grand mood, and let’s not even talk about how fine he looks with his hair slicked back.
  • WHAT??? I was not expecting the featured artist once again. 10cm just blessed me with his high pitched voice.
  • It is such a sweet background vocal to Chanyeol and Sehun’s harmonies.
  • I enjoyed every minute of this song; therefore, it gets a 10/10.
  • Now let’s check out their album.

Album Review: The album is also titled 1 Billion Views and has nine songs. Here is a preview –

  1. 1 Billion Views (Feat. MOON)
  2. Say It (Feat. PENOMECO) – This also follows the same upbeat flow and singing style. “Say It” is a BOP, and I am already grooving. Since this is a compiled post, I don’t want to write much, so I will just end on the fact that I enjoyed this song.
  3. Rodeo Station – I love the melody, and the background vocals are soothing. The beat also follows the same retro influence. The production on all four tracks I have heard so far is excellent, most notable with the vocal layering. It is so fascinating to me. “Rodeo Station” is another great track on this record.
  4. Telephone (Feat. 10cm)
  5. Jet Lag – Now, this has a slower tempo compared to the rest. I can’t stop ranting about the vocal quality of this album. “Jet Lag” might just be my favourite so far. The chorus is captivating. I appreciate the smooth and chill vibe.
  6. Fly Away (Feat> Gaeko) – The start for this is quite enchanting. I love the rap-talking style on this track and vocals…WOW. Gaeko is blessing my ears. No song on this album has disappointed. It keeps getting better as expected from EXO members. All I need now is a light stick to fully jam out. THE PRODUCTION!!!… I feel like I’m actually flying.
  7. Nothin’ – The instrumental for this one stands out a lot from the rest, but it still fits the album concept. Already, I LOVE IT. The guitar on this track goes off, and I am here for all that energy. I honestly don’t want to analyze these songs so much because I might write too much since they are all equally amazing. Chanyeol and Sehun deserve an A+++++++ for this album.
  8. On Me – OH JUST FROM THE INTRO, I KNOW THIS IS ABOUT TO BE ๐Ÿ”ฅ. This one is the hardcore rap track on a classic trap instrumental. I am in cloud nine right now, all I need is a speaker because it is party time ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ. It’s not heavy EDM, but it just makes me want to turn up.
  9. 1 Billion Views – Instrumental

1 Billion Views by EXO-SC is an excellent album from start to finish, and I will be going back to it a lot. I do have my favourites, but I enjoyed every single song on here, so my rating is a solid 10/10.

“OHIO” by Crush

img_1295

Reaction to Official MV:

  • Oh, I wasn’t expecting an upbeat start. I thought this was going to be a slow song because I didn’t check out any of the teasers.
  • I love the beat, and I feel this is about to be a good one.
  • His voice is fantastic, as always.
  • That little dance Crush did, in the beginning, was so adorable.
  • So this is about him going all out on partying to forget his heartbreak?
  • The melody for this song is catchy and very bouncy. It makes me want to pull out some weird dance moves.
  • Fun fact, Tablo from Epik High wrote the lyrics for this track.
  • I love that little breakdown clapping section. The rhythm is so good.
  • The pianist is also going off in the background. I am enjoying the jazz influence we have going on with the instrumental.
  • Okay, Crush is going off vocally. He isn’t doing anything too crazy, but his flow and smooth vocal runs are such a vibe.
  • “OHIO” is, for sure, going on my playlist. It is such a groovy song, and I already want to sing along.
  • Plus, Crush’s crazy dancing in the video is a delightful visual feast. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
  • “OHIO” gets a 10/10 from me.

Review of B-side – “Let Me (Feat. Dean Morrison)”

  • Oh, I guess this is the softer track.
  • It seems to be entirely in English.
  • This song is so delicate, and I already love it.
  • I approve of the instrumental mix with the keyboard and shallow drum beats.
  • “Let Me” is a romantic track, and I am here for this kind of energy.
  • It reminds me so much of songs I would hear from the 90s American boy groups.
  • Wow, whoever is doing the backing vocals has a rich deep voice. Is that Dean Morrison, or is he just the producer? Kindly let me know in the comment section.
  • Crush’s voice on this track feels like butter melting into my ears.
  • “Let Me” really follows the classic 90s/early 2000s R&B style.
  • I LOVE IT. My rating is 10/10.

“AWay” by JEONG EUN JI

img_1299

Reaction to Official MV:

  • I’m sad.๐Ÿ˜ฅ There are no English captions on this video.
  • All the same, I am here for this summery vibe.
  • Her voice is so beautiful, and I love how the instrumental brings high energy into the song.
  • The chorus didn’t drop as I expected, but that makes things more interesting.
  • Plus, I think the melody is catchy and easy to sing along.
  • The cinematography for this music video is stunning. The colours pop with a soft glow effect.
  • I am enjoying the overall vibe, and I wish I could go on a road trip while jamming to this.
  • Jeong Eun Ji’s make-up is pretty. Her make-up artist went in.
  • Vocal wise, her high notes are effortless. I also hear some lovely whistle notes in the background.
  • Eun Ji is very talented and blessed with a powerful voice.
  • “AWay” gets a 10/10 from me.
  • Now let’s check the full album she dropped.

Album Review: This EP is titled Simple and has six songs. Here is a preview –

  1. Simple is the best – I adore the soft vibe of this one. The piano is on it is brilliant. I could listen to just the instrumental on its own and still enjoy every second because it’s that fascinating. I love how the tempo switched up throughout the song but came together as a perfect mix. Jeong Eun Ji also sounds breathtaking on this track, and the overall production is excellent.
  2. AWay
  3. Whoo – This is way more chill compared to the previous tracks. I love Eun Ji’s vocal tone. It almost sounds like a neo-soul style to me. It’s like a breath of fresh air that hits you in at the right moments. I’m swaying from side to side while listening to this track because it’s that soothing with the shallow vocals and soft guitar instrumental. “Whoo” is my favourite song so far.
  4. Stay – This is a full-on ballad with the classic piano entry and entrancing vocals. I think this might be my second favourite. It feels like a lullaby that could quickly put me to sleep, and I live for this kind of relaxing songs. I’m just going to stop typing and enjoy every second of this one.
  5. Moisturising – Another soft track but with a guitar entry. The progression of this is intriguing. It’s not too upbeat but not very slow like “Stay”. The guitar and drums give it a more cheerful essence. I feel like it was too short, or maybe the 3 minutes and 25 seconds just went by too fast for me.
  6. A Slow Child – Oh, this is about to be a whole mood just from the first few seconds. I love the deep rhythmic drums, and the way Eun Ji came in was elegant. This track makes me feel light, almost like I’m floating. Also, the inclusion of classical instruments took the song to a grand lev. “A Slow Child” is my third favourite song from this record.

Jeong Eun Ji truly impressed. The EP – Simple is sold, and it will be on repeat for a while. My rating is a definite 10/10.

LAY – LIT Part 2: Album Review

There is no way I could miss reviewing LAY‘s album again. Although I couldn’t react to part one of LIT, I did listen to it, and it’s a solid 10/10 for me. Both parts of LIT have six songs that combine to form a full-length album with twelve tracks in total. I know all the titles for this record are in Chinese, so here are the track titles for part one: “Lit” – “Jade” – “Eagle” – “H20” – “Fly” and – “Soul”

Now let’s check out what this second part has to offer.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exacts thoughts while listening to each song.)

Album Review:

img_1272

Here is the album on Spotify –

  1. Changsha – Okay, I love how this started. I think the first instrument is a traditional flute, but don’t take my word on that. I truly appreciate this album for the fusion of traditional and modern elements. As expected, the beat came in hard, and LAY sounds fantastic. I am already dancing, which means “Changsha” is a vibe. In some verses, LAY seems to be rapping or is someone else featured on this track? I am intrigued by his vocal technique. He’s not really singing or fully rapping, but whatever artistic choice he made lead to this BOP. I absolutely love this song. The continuous flute melody for the instrumental is catchy, and it will be stuck in my head for a while. I think the overall production is solid, and this is a perfect way to start out this second part of the album.
  2. Mama – The beat on his songs are so epic. You all need to get a speaker or headphones to fully appreciate the bass. I love the lyrics for “Mama”. He’s basically talking about the support and care from his mother, right? I love the line when LAY says – “If I fall, at least I tried.” This is honestly the key to life. You just have to try. If you fail, stand up, dust yourself and move on to the next agenda. Do not stay down because that’s when you’ve failed. I love this song, it’s upbeat but on a different vibe from the previous one. I personally feel it was too short, but that’s not a big deal when I have a loop button.
  3. Boom – This I have already heard, and I honestly was not the biggest fan, but let’s see how my second listen goes. I love the beat, and this line – “to the right, to the left…” is really catchy. I think “Boom” is a casual dance song just like LAY intended it to be. The chorus actually makes you want to move. I certainly enjoyed it more this second time, and it’s a definite grower. I might not go back to play this particular song a lot, but on this album, it is a substantial entree.
  4. Call My Name – Alright, we have arrived on the slow train of this record. Excellent start with the guitar instrumental. It made me feel relaxed and ready to soak in LAY’s vocals. Plus, he sounds so soft and soothing on this track. I noticed that they doubled his vocals in certain parts, it almost seems like an echo, and it gave me chills. The production is incredible. The chorus didn’t go where I was expecting, but it is perfect. I thought it was going to be slow all through, but he gave us a groovy vibe with the introduction of a smooth bassy beat. “Call My Name” is an ultimate BOP and a half๐Ÿ”ฅ. LAY’s voice on this track is pure eargasm. The effortless vocal runs in the background… WOW!!! I AM IN LOVE.
  5. Late Night – The intro gives off such a serene and trancelike vibe. I am enjoying these last few songs a lot. Their calm but swift energy is giving life. The fact that I get to hear more of LAY’s singing is also adding to my joy. I need to know who creates his beats. If he does it all by himself, then he’s a genius because the way they hit is LIT… yes๐Ÿง, pun intended. I couldn’t resist, sorry๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚. I love how the tempo goes up a note during the chorus and then comes back to the chill mood for the verses. The falsetto notes in the background are soothing. “Late Night” is another great song on this album and also one of my favourites.
  6. Wish – The last song already? This was too fast. Still following the slow tempo with beautiful vocals. I enjoy how the slower songs start out with a guitar, which is an excellent differentiation from the regular piano intros. Okay, hold up, I just looked at my phone, and this song is only 2 minutes and 43 seconds long. That is way to short LAY. You can’t be making short length bops like this. This is unacceptable because I need more time. “Wish” is definitely the softest song on the album because there aren’t any heavy beats on it. We just have LAY’s voice and the guitar doing their best all through, and I LOVE IT. This is a perfect way to end the album.

Final Thoughts:

I am genuinely impressed by all six songs. LAY did an excellent job with this record. I once again want to point out how much I appreciate the fusion of traditional and modern musical elements. Although I did notice that blend was more prominent in the first part of the album in comparison to this one. All the same, every song on the LIT album is playlist worthy to me. Therefore my rating for LIT: Part 2 is a bulletproof 10/10.

Letโ€™s Get Lit With LAY: Song Of The Week

This week’s song is coming to you all earlier than usual because I skipped last week. I have been listening to “Lit” by LAY a lot, so I’m sticking with it.

I remember being super excited about LAY’s new album. I even reviewed the pre-release single “Jade” ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผ LAY โ€“ Jade: Music Review, but the timing for the album release didn’t work with my school schedule. All the same, I listened to the EP – LIT on my own, and I absolutely love it. It gets a 10/10 from me because I genuinely enjoyed the modern and traditional instrument/beat fusion. LAY sounded incredible on every track, and the overall production for the album was flawless. I can’t even pick favourites because I vibe to every song equally. The title-track “Lit” is such an energetic and groovy tune. Plus, the music video and choreography is on A++++++ level.  LAY did not come to play.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

I hope you all enjoy listening to “Lit” by LAY. For anyone interested, here is the EP – LIT on Spotify:

Kpop Music Reviews Compilation: AGUST D| BAEKHYUN|MONSTA X| CHANYEOL X RAIDEN|BAEK JI WOONG

I posted on the blog’s Facebook page that I would be compiling a missed review post. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get this out earlier today due to schoolwork, but here it is. I also have a second part coming soon because I have a lot of groups and solo artists to go through.

(Please note – This is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)

“Candy” by Baekhyunimg_7410Reaction to Official MV:

  • Already this instrumental is giving straight BOP vibes.
  • Baekhyun’s voice is out of this world beautiful.
  • I am living for the instrumental, and I love how they slowed it down for the pre-chorus section.
  • Beautiful choreography and the chorus is so good.
  • I absolutely love the variations of beats in the background.
  • The deep drum beat that came in during the second verse was too perfect.๐Ÿ”ฅ
  • The subtle runs that Baekhyun does at the end of each sentence are pure eargasm.
  • This is catchy and easy to groove to.
  • The slowed-down parts get me majorly in my feels.
  • The production is insane. From the vocal runs to the background vocals and even the high notes. Everything is incredible.
  • What else was I expecting?
  • Beakhyun is merely flexing his exceptional pipes on us, and I AM FEELING BLESSED.
  • Hence my rating for “Candy” is a bulletproof 10/10.
  • Now I know this is the title track for Baekhyun’s 2nd mini-album Delight, so I am going to check that out now.
  • This EP has seven tracks, and everyone was equally amazing.
  • I can’t pick a favourite song now because I want to replay the album later today when I’m fully awake. I need to appreciate all the tiny details before deciding.
  • All the same, Beakhyun’s voice is breathtaking, and Delight is a classic, lovely and well-produced R&B album. My rating for it is 10/10.

“FANTASIA” by Monsta Ximg_7412Reaction to Official MV:

  • This is my first time actively listening to a song from Monsta X.
  • I only randomly heard “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT” and “Wish on the same sky” on Spotify, and I LOVE both songs.
  • So why not check out their recent comeback?
  • Okay… I wasn’t expecting the beat to go hard that fast.
  • The first rapper is so good. I love the way he came in, and the instrumental switch up for that section was perfect for his rap style.
  • The visuals for the music video are outstanding.
  • I love the synthesized beat for the chorus section.
  • The boys look amazing in the black and gold outfit.
  • They have great dancers, and the vocalists are also pretty solid.
  • The beat drops for this song are very epic and intriguing.
  • After my first listen, I am 80/20 on this song. I like it, but I’m not deeply in love.
  • EDM influenced tracks are often just okay or major bops for me. Hence why I’m going to replay “FANTASIA” to see if it gets better for me.
  • After my second listen, I will rate this song as a 9/10.
  • I like it, and I think it’s a grower. After a few more listens, I might enjoy it more.
  • Alright, I know they released a mini-album titled FANTASIA X. I am going to check it out now.
  • This album has seven tracks, and they all have electronic elements. I’m new to Monsta X, so I wonder if this is their go-to sound.
  • I think I will enjoy this album more when I blast it on my headphones, but it’s too late for that now.
  • Currently, the songs that stood out to me are “IT AIN’T OVER” and “Stand up”
  • My rating for FANTASIA X is 8.5/10. I will listen to it again later in the day and post more favourites songs on the Facebook page.

“Daechwita” by Agust Dimg_7417Reaction to Official MV:

  • I feel this is going to be a theory filled song/MV, so I’m just going to leave an explanation video here –
  • Now let’s get into it.
  • I have already mentioned way too many times how much I enjoy hearing traditional music elements in modern songs.
  • If he keeps this sound for the entire song, then he has my undivided attention.
  • Thankfully I have English captions since I’m fashionably late on this reaction.
  • I love the traditional town setting and costumes.
  • Okay, the beat definitely goes hard.
  • His flow is not even questionable. I might not be an avid BTS follower, but I know he’s talented.
  • I’m paying more attention to the lyrics.
  • Korean rappers have a different level of spice that makes me appreciate rap music.
  • I never used to enjoy hip-hop before discovering the K hip-hop scene. Their flow, energy and lyrics are exceptional and intriguing.
  • I wonder what “Daechwita” means. I will watch the explanation video once I finish this review.
  • Oooh, I love how the traditional elements dropped during the bridge, and his flow switched up entirely. This song is pure ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ.
  • Yep, it’s official for me. “Daechwita” is a BOP and a half. I give it a complete 10/10.
  • I know this is the title track to his 2nd mixtape D-2, so I am checking it out now.
  • This album has ten songs, and every song hit hard for me in a different way.
  • Like Baekhyun’s case, I don’t want to pick favourites now because I need a better listen later in the day.
  • My rating for D-2 by Agust D is a bulletproof 10/10.

“Yours” by Raiden x Chanyeol ft. LEE HI & Changmoimg_7418Reaction to Official MV:

  • LEE HI came in smoothly with her soulful and sultry voice. She always puts me in my feels.
  • I love the chill instrumental.
  • I admire rappers that can also sing, and Chanyeol’s voice is blessed.
  • Excellent work with having Chanyeol and LEE HI go back and forth on one verse.
  • Their completely different tones and styles of singing makes things more interesting.
  • I LOVE when featured artists are incorporated throughout the song instead of only appearing in one section.
  • It doesn’t even have to be them singing or rapping the entire time, but at least some background vocals or continuous interaction between the leading artist and featured one sound way better to me.
  • Raiden is calling for my attention with that piano and guitar of his. I know I sound like a broken record already, but I love keyboards.๐Ÿ˜„
  • I love the beat drop for the chorus. It’s still chill but more bouncy.
  • The colours and graphics for the music video are perfect.
  • I love the vocal layering on this.
  • LEE HI’s vocal runs are soft but beautiful. The production on this song is really exceptional.
  • Oooh, nice ending with the synthesized/distorted instrumental.
  • Yep, “Yours” by Raiden x Chanyeol ft. LEE HI & Changmo gets a solid 10/10 from me. Another song for my playlist.

“Sometimes” by Baek Ji Woong(Prod. JungKey)img_7494Reaction to Official MV:

  • This marks my second song from Baek Ji Woong.
  • I enjoy his calm and compelling vocal tone.
  • He’s a very talented ballad singer, and I honestly need to find time to check out his previous releases.
  • The slight raspiness of his voice is soothing to my ears. Plus, the vibe of this song is relaxing.
  • This song started out with a soft piano and then paced up a bit with the introduction of a guitar to the mix.
  • The couple in the music video is adorable.
  • Is this song about them reminiscing their time together? Doesn’t that mean they broke up?๐Ÿ˜ฅ
  • I love the instrumental and vocal progression of this song.
  • Baek Ji Woong’s high note is smooth, and I love how his vocals floated out at the end.
  • CLASSIC BALLAD’S ARE SO BEAUTIFUL.
  • I checked out the English lyrics, and it is about reminiscing the precious moments of a previous relationship.
  • I really enjoyed listening to “Sometimes” by Baek Ji Woong, and it’s since it falls under one of my favourite genres, I couldn’t help but fall in love with this song.
  • My rating is a solid 10/10. I already added it to my playlist.

Finally Thoughts:

Although I had to stay up late, I enjoyed listening to all these artists. I discovered some quality R&B, Hip-hop and EDM albums. I also got a fantastic ballad track to soothe my soul, so I am pleased. I will be sleeping well tonight.

What do you all think of the songs I reviewed?
