DAY6 – ‘The Book of Us: Negentropy – Chaos swallowed up in love’ Album Review

On April 19th, DAY6 released their 7th mini-album, The Book of Us: Negentropy- Chaos swallowed up in love. This album is the fourth and final chapter of The Book of Us series. The record has seven songs, including the title track – “You make Me”

(Please note – this is a real-time review. Meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)

Reaction to “You make Me” Official MV:

  • Right off the bat, I love the cinematography for this music video. The colouring + scenery is beautiful.
  • As expected from DAY6, the vocals and instrumentalization are on point. I could never get bored when listening to them sing, especially Wonpil’s soft voice that stays piercing my heart. Also, Dowoon’s drum sections for this song are incredible.
  • They all look amazing, but that hair colour and length on Jae is serving big time.
  • I love how they switched up the chord progression and melody for the bridge. That brought in some new and exciting elements to the song.
  • I think “You make Me” will make for a good racing song. Is it my favourite title track from DAY6? No, but taking it just as a song from them, I LOVE IT.

Album Review:

  1. everyday we fight – I’m getting slight disco vibes from this song, and I love that for me. Once again, the vocals and instrumentalization are top-notch. I love the melody and harmonization for the chorus; it’s so beautiful😍. Dowoon’s drum sections get better and better with each comeback; the man stays serving👏🏼. Also, the guitar sections on this track are exquisite.
  2. You make Me – Listening to the audio, I can appreciate the vocals more. They all sound amazing, and 100% this song is a vibe. I already added it to my playlist.
  3. Healer – This one has a very intriguing intro and instrumental in general. I love that it’s groovy, and I’m also enjoying the unconventional melody + the sing-along chorus. The production for this song is sweet.
  4. Only – The intro for this song is captivating and quite R&B-ish. The vocals and melody are so beautiful. I’m in awe of their voices right now, and I almost thought my baby Dowoon got some lines at the 1:15 mark. However, after confirming on YouTube, it’s Young K singing, and he sounds fantastic in that section. “Only” is a lovely song.
  5. above the clouds – I am slowly noticing that this album uses several sounds from nature. I love the serenity that brings into the record. The instrumental of “above the clouds” ignited a delightful but heavy feeling in me, so I went ahead to check out the lyrics. This song is about wishing for the soul of a dearly departed to rest on above the clouds while reminiscing the happy moments you once had with them. My feelings were so on point. Overall, I truly enjoyed the guitar sections on “above the clouds”, and it’s a brilliant song.
  6. ONE – I love the rhythm of this song, and the production quality is on point. DAY6 always serves the best albums. So far, every track showcased distinct elements and had different vibes, but the entire record still sounds cohesive. It’s simply a well-thought-out body of work.
  7. so let’s love – A perfect slow song to close things, and the vocal delivery on this one is beautiful. I love the chill vibe of “so let’s love”. It’s something I could listen to every day.

Final Thoughts:

My favourites from this album in no particular order are – “everyday we fight”, “You make Me”, “Only”, “above the clouds”, and “so let’s love”.

The song that left a lasting impression on me due to the lyrics is “above the clouds”. I read that Jae wrote it for a friend that passed away. It’s such a heartfelt and comforting song.

As mentioned earlier, DAY6 always has the best albums. In my opinion, this 7th mini-album, The Book of Us: Negentropy- Chaos swallowed up in love, is an excellent and well-thought-out body of work. All seven songs served what they were supposed to give, + the superb production quality. Let’s not even discuss vocals and instrumentalization because they always come correct in that department. With all that said, this record gets a solid 10/10 from me.

Song Of The Week: “Area” by SHINee

Hello everyone🤗, I hope you all are having a fantastic week!

My recommended song for this week is from SHINee. They recently released a repackaged version of their 7th albumand hands down, my favourite track on the record is “Area”

Aside from “Area” having such an addictive rhythm and groove + top-notch vocals, it is also a beautifully written song. Minho wrote the lyrics, and I must say that he did an excellent job👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. I love that when you first hear this song, it gives off a light-hearted and warm feeling, but once you’ve read the translated lyrics, it’s more sentimental than assumed.

My favourite section of this track is undoubtedly the chorus because of Onew’s blissful vocals and the tight harmonization from all the members. Overall, SHINee gave off an incredible vibe on “Area”, so I hope you all enjoy listening to it as well.

#CoupleTypeOfHangout – Drama Couples Only💞

This post will highlight some of my favourite recent couple shoots from both Korean and Chinese drama leads.

(Please Note: none of these images are mine. I got them from official magazine websites and social media sites.)

First on this list is Kim Rae-won and Lee Da-hee for 1st Look Korea. Both actors recently starred in L.U.C.A: The Beginning – a 2021 science fiction series.

I’ve heard many good things about this drama, and plan to watch it next month. It has only 12 episodes, so that makes for a quick watch. All English subbed episodes of the series are available using this link – L.U.C.A: The Beginning on Viki.

Up next is Li Yitong and Hu Yitian for Harper’s BAZAAR China. They both starred in Go Go Squid 2: Dt. Appledog’s Time.

Another drama on my list to watch next month. It has a total of 38 episodes and is available with English subtitles on both Viki and iQIYI using these links –

Following up is Lee Min-ki and Nana for DAZED Korea. Their drama – Oh My Ladylord (also known as Oh! Master) is currently airing on iQIYI with English Subs. I plan to watch this once it’s done airing.

To close, I have The Rational Life costars Qin Lan and Dylan Wang on InStyle China – April 2021 cover. Their drama is still airing, and the subbing is non-existent since it’s not available on Viki, iQIYI, WeTV or even YouTube. However, I heard that Netflix bought the license for The Rational Life, so I’ll wait and watch all the episodes in one go.

My Pictorial|Poster Faves: A Xu Kai and Angelababy Exclusive

(Please Note: none of these images are mine. I got them from official magazine websites and social media sites.)

In February, Xu Kai graced the cover of Madame Figaro China. The camera angles for this photoshoot are pretty intriguing. I believe the photographer made good use of the shooting set + props to give off some optical illusion –

Following up is Angelababy for L’Officiel China. I love this photoshoot because the backgrounds and editing style makes each picture look like a painted artwork –

Song Of The Week – “How did we” by Huh Gak

Since I’m pretty much settled and up to date now, I’ve decided to continue my weekly song recommendations. “How did we” by Huh Gak has been my staple companion over the past few weeks. It’s a beautiful and relaxing ballad. So I’m sharing this with anyone in need of such a vibe.

I love listening to “How did we” a lot, mainly because of two factors –

  1. The beautiful instrumentalization.
  2. Huh Gak’s superb vocal delivery.

Another sub reason could be the message of this song. Although it’s mainly about a breakup, it focuses more on letting go of the hurtful memories during a relationship and reminiscing more on your happy moments.

I remember discovering Huh Gak through a movie soundtrack titled “My Best”, which also features the fabulous vocalist John Park. Ever since hearing that song, I dived deep into his discography. In my opinion, this man is hands done one of the best vocalists in Korea. His emotional delivery is incredible.

If you feel intrigued by this week’s recommendation and want to hear more from Huh Gak, check out his 10th-anniversary album, Hello –
