DREAMCATCHER – Dystopia: Lose Myself: Album Review

On August 17th, DREAMCATCHER came back with Dystopia: Lose Myself. The title track for this album is “BOCA”

DREAMCATCHER is a South Korean girl group managed by Dreamcatcher Company. There are seven members in this group – JiU, SuA, Handong, Dami, Gahyeon, Siyeon, and Yoohyeon. Each member represents a nightmare or fear. They were initially called MINX with only five members. On January 13th of 2017, they re-debuted with their current name, an addition of two new members and the single album – Nightmare.

(Please note โ€“ this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)

Reaction to Official MV for BOCA:

  • I always appreciate a good dark vibe music video or concept.
  • Already, I am in LOVE with the beat.
  • I love the continuous background vocals throughout each person’s verse.
  • Dami is such a fantastic rapper. Her parts always call for my attention, and I love her deep voice.
  • Excellent production for the instrumental. I love how it intensifies for specific sections.
  • Oh, this song is groovy. It makes me want to move my body.
  • I don’t know everyone’s name yet, but so far, all the ladies are serving vocals, stage presence and energy. Plus, their outfits are stunning.
  • The variations of vocal tones in this group are perfect. They all compliment each other very well.
  • The visuals for the music video are serene and mystical. I love it.
  • I love the electronic/rock chorus, and the inclusion of martial art moves into the choreography.
  • The rappers are giving me life. The flow and energy are on 100%.
  • The harmonies and high notes are insane. I LOVE “BOCA”
  • Dreamcatcher has impressed me once again. I might not be a stan yet, but I’m getting there slowly.
  • These girls are incredible and stand out from other K-pop girl groups.

Album Review:

This mini-album has a total of six songs. Here is the highlight medley –

  1. Intro – I already heard a bit of this rain and thunderous intro in the title track. Once again, I love the dark and mystical vibe. Plus, the rock elements are incredibly beautiful.
  2. BOCA – I’m just going out jam out here.๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ
  3. Break The Wall – Interesting entry on this track, and I adore the rock instrumental. Also excellent production with the distorted vocals. The drumming on this song is impressive. The harmonization on the chorus is beautiful, and I love the melody of the section that comes right before the second verse. This is my first time hearing a K-pop girl group go all-out rock, and I am enjoying every minute of it. Personally, “Break The Wall” doesn’t beat “BOCA”, but I still love it.ย
  4. Can’t get you out of my mind – This track has a softer start. I honestly don’t know what to expect at this point. Even the slow songs have some rock elements. Alright, I need to start paying more attention to Dreamcatcher because I love Korean rock bands, and this album is such a vibe. I am here bopping my head because “Can’t get you out of my mind” is a perfect dance track. The EDM meets rock feels are intense on this one. Also, the production is beautiful, and their vocals sound so trancelike. I think this comes right after “BOCA” for me.
  5. Dear – Another slow one but this time I hear a piano. Dreamcatcher has a great set of beautiful singers. This track follows the standard ballad composition style. Okay, “Dear” was slow for a long while, and I was hoping for some variations in tempo, and they just surprised me with sweet drum beats. I am in love with the production of this mini-album. There is never a dull moment. I love the faded humming at the end of this song.ย
  6. BOCA Instrumental – Nothing new here, we have only four songs on this mini-album. Now that I am listening to only the instrumental, certain parts remind me of Chen Linong’s “Taste of Summer”. I don’t know why๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚. It’s so weird.

Final Thoughts:

I enjoyed every minute of this album. Production-wise it is very intriguing, and as I mentioned, there was never a dull moment. DREAMCATCHER is slowing climbing into my list of top girl groups, so I might start learning their names.

I am genuinely impressed with Dystopia: Lose Myself. Therefore it gets a 10/10.

Catching Up With Recent Comebacks – Part 3

Recently there has been a lot of comebacks and new singles that caught my attention. Unfortunately, I can’t write a review for every single one, but I can still give you guys a few words about the songs that impressed me.

#. ZHOUMI – “I’ll be there” feat. KUN & XIAOJUN of WayVimg_3813 It is nice to hear from Zhoumi again, and I am always delighted to listen to my WayV babies. This song is actually dedicated to encouraging China as they fight against the recent coronavirus (COVID-19). XiaoJun really stood out to me because of his distinct tone and technique. All the same, they all sounded beautiful together. “I’ll be there” is a heartwarming power ballad, and I really enjoyed second of it.

#. GAEKO – “Cold” feat. Heizeimg_3816 This is the classic hip-hop/RnB track which I easily gravitate to. Heize is one of my frequent listens, so I had to check this out. I also know Gaeko, but I usually hear him on featured tracks. This is my first time listening to an actual song from him. “Cold” is a groovy and chill track, so I immediately added it to my playlist. The music video is also fantastic with the way it tells the story of the couple.

#. John Park – March Lover img_3817 I haven’t heard anything from John Park in a while, so you could imagine my excitement when I saw the notification for this new single. Oooh, how I missed that deep and raspy tone. His vocal control is impressive. I am so happy. “March Lover” is also a groovy track, but it has some disco and jazz elements. I was dancing throughout the entire 3:49 minutes. I LOVE, LOVE THIS SONG!!! Thank you, John Park, for blessing my ears.

#. CHUNG HA – Everybody Hasimg_3818 Chung ha continues to impress me as a vocalist. I know she always had a lovely voice, but I appreciate the growth I hear. Everything about this new single is perfect. I love the message that everyone has one of those awful days, but there is always hope. Very relatable, and Chung ha’s voice makes things even more emotional. The music video is stunning, and the instrumental on this is very soothing. I added this to my playlist.

#. Dino Lee – Be Meimg_3819 I stumbled upon this song while searching for Bii’s new single and I am so thrilled because this is a gem. I am mad at myself for not giving Dino Lee the attention he rightly deserves. “Be Me” is a simple track, all in English, but what drives this song home is Dino Lee’s voice. He wasn’t doing too much, but he sounded incredible to me. Also, the instrumental gives off warmth, it made me feel like I was receiving a visual hug. I just wish the song was a little bit longer. All the same, I still love it. Definitely playlist worthy.

#. YOOK SUNGJAE – Come With The Windimg_3815 This is the title track for SungJae’s recent mini-album titled YOOK O’clock. The mini has seven songs in total, and the sidetracks are all from his 3X2=6 Project. I have reviewed three songs already, and they can be accessed with these links ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผย YOOK SUNGJAE โ€“ W.A.U: Music Review

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿผย YOOK SUNGJAE โ€“ 3X2=6 Project Part 3: Music Review

SungJae dedicated this song to Melodys (BTOB’s fandom name). BTOB is honestly one of the most vocally talented groups. Every vocalist in BTOB is fully capable of singing a solid solo. I am so happy with SungJae for putting himself out there and creating this masterpiece. I have enjoyed this journey with him. His voice is beautiful. “Come With The Wind” is a heartfelt letter to his fans. Also, the animated music video is always interesting to watch. Good job, Yook SungJae. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

#. Dreamcatcher – Screamimg_3823 I have heard about Dreamcatcher, but I never had the zeal to check them out. I happened to see their teaser images for this comeback, and I was intrigued. I am genuinely impressed with this title track, so I have them on my radar now. I admire girl groups that move away from the conventional cute girl concept. “Scream” showcases incredible singing and rapping skills. I love the way the song starts, the instrumental is insanely good, and the music video compliments their concept. I am here for this kind of energy. I will have to check out the full album later because these girls are gorgeous, fierce and talented.

#. PENTAGON – Dr. BeBeimg_3821 I have listened to at least one or two title tracks from PENTAGON, but I never got into them like that. This comeback intensely called my attention, so here I am, boys. That whole stomping/marching band movement in the beginning already sold it for me. Plus, I love dark concepts. I lived for whenever they said “Gratatata…”, it so catchy. They have a good set of vocalists and rappers. I was jamming throughout the entire song. “Dr. BeBe” is a well-produced track, and PENTAGON ate this song up. This is already in my playlist, and I will be checking out the full album when I have time.

#. Niko Sun – ไธๆž‰ๅนดๅฐ‘ img_3820 I am not sure about the English title. I think it either translates to ‘Not Young’ or ‘Young.’ All the same, it definitely has something to do with youth. This track is from Niko Sun’s latest EP. I also stumbled on this song while searching for Bii’s new single. What caught my attention was the traditional Chinese instruments in the beginning. I just love it when artists fuse the old and new to create amazing masterpieces. This is my first time hearing Niko Sun, and I must say that he has a great set of pipes. Plus, his control is wild. This song is already in my playlist, now all I need is the correct English title.

#.MOONBYUL – Eclipseimg_3822 I haven’t listened to the full EP yet, but I like the vibe I am getting from this title track. I am so surprised that she isn’t getting more attention with this song. “Eclipse” sounds like something a boy band could get a lot of hype with. She nailed every second of this track. I was genuinely in awe of her presence and energy. I just hope she keeps doing her and showing that there can be variance in the kind of music that women put out. I also love the choreography for this song because it goes hard.

My Pictorial|Pictures Faves: Flowers and Fantasy
