Dynamic Duo, CHEN – You: Music Review

Dynamic Duo, in collaboration with EXO’s CHEN, released a new digital single titled “You” on the 23rd of this month. I have been itching to check this out.

Before I begin, here is my regular short bio for both parties:

img_3228Dynamic Duo is a South Korean hip hop group formed by two rappers, Choiza and Gaeko. They were friends since childhood. Both were previously part of the hip hop trio CB MASS. After CB MASS disbanded in 2003, Choiza and Gaeko became Dynamic Duo. The duo rose to fame in 2004 with the release of their debut album, Taxi Driver. It became the best-selling hip hop album in South Korea. They are now signed to Amoeba Culture. A hip hop based record label established by the duo and their partner, Go Kyung-min.

img_3229Kim Jong-Dae, popularly known as Chen, is a South Korean singer and songwriter. He debuted in 2012 as part of the South Korean-Chinese boy band EXO. He is famous for being the main vocalist of the group and has also participated in a good number of soundtracks for South Korean dramas. In 2019 Chen made his official solo debut with the EP – April, and a Flower.

This is not the first time Dynamic Duo is working with Chen. In 2017, they collaborated for the track – “Nosedive”

(Note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV:

  • Yes, you all know how I feel about songs that begin with a keyboard.
  • Oh damn, there aren’t any English captions available.
  • Chen’s voice is beautiful and relaxing.
  • I love the perfectly timed finger-snapping that was included in the mix.
  •  The way the beat dropped before the rap is so good.
  • I never used to enjoy rap music, but Korean hip hop has changed my opinion. The songs are always groovy and lit.
  • This song is a BOP.
  • Choiza and Gaeko are giving good vibes with their fantastic rhythm and flow.
  • The instrumental has a lot of intriguing elements. I can hear something new in every section.
  • I wish I knew the technical terms to explain better.
  • Also, the background vocals are so good. Chen did an excellent job.
  • The instrumental is smooth and entrancing. It makes you feel like you are riding through a time machine.
  • The music video is also relaxing because of the chosen tone.
  • After reading the English translations, this is what I got – the song is reminiscing about the good and bad times of a previous relationship. Then you get a realization of all the mistakes made. Now you are at that point where you can’t live without the other person.
  • I love this song. Everyone played their part perfectly well, but I do not see myself listening to it all the time.
  • So my rating for it is 9.5/10.

EXO – OBSESSION: Kpop Music Review

I am back, and there is a long list of music videos/albums to be reviewed, so let us get right into it.

EXO released their new album titled OBSESSION on the 27th of November. The title track is also called “Obsession”. I saw the teasers, and I love the dark concept. I know I am very late with this review, but a sis was so busy these past few weeks. All the same, I am so excited.

(This is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV/Title Track:

  • Right from the start, I am already into this sound.
  • Is it just me, or does this song give off a trap feel?
  • The beat drop at the beginning already testifies for how epic this song is about to be.
  • Baekhyun gives me life.
  • The visuals kind of remind me of “Monster”.
  • For some reason, Kai’s crop tops keep getting shorter and shorter with each comeback.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
  • Okay, when Suho came in, I was shocked. Boy…who told you to look so beautiful and sound so amazing?
  • Oooohh, what is this – “I don’t think so.”
  • The beat for this track is insane. I LOVE.
  • It is official, “Obsession” is already a BOP and a half. EXO came hard with this one.
  • The visuals for this music video are exceptional.
  • Chanyeol’s raps are always on point. He stays killing all his parts.
  • My favourite section is definitely when they get to sing, “I don’t think so.”
  • The choreography looks good. I am ready to watch a live performance and dance practise.
  • Yesss to that groovy bridge and Chen just slew me with his beautiful high note. I am in space at this point. I LOVE THIS SONG.
  • Also, Sehun’s slow talk-rap was the perfect build-up into the bridgeπŸ‘πŸ‘. The transition was flawless. He came in smooth and left us more space to appreciate the vocals.
  • So basically, they are battling another version of themselves. Okay.
  • EXO’s harmonies are to die for. They like to flex with their vocals a lot. My ears have been blessed.
  • Nah… HOLD UP, Chen, Baekhyun and Suho just disrespected me with vocals towards the end, but I am not complaining.
  • All members did great for this comeback. Everyone had their stand out moment, but I could not pinpoint it all because I was too busy grooving to the song.
  • Suho stood out a lot to me. That red suit with his red hair and then when they shot him in black/white… DAMN. Also, excuse me but ABS FOR DAYYYS…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜. I am in love with his look for this comeback.
  • I have to watch this music video a few more times to take everything in.
  • There is no argument here, “Obsession” is a BOP, and I am ready to play this song on repeat. I already added it to my playlist. Thank you, EXO.
  • This song is definitely a 10/10 for me.

I have to go now. I will be checking out the full album later on at my own personal time.

Until my next post, take care.πŸ’•πŸ’•

EXO – Electric Kiss: Song Of The Week

The chosen song for this week is “Electric Kiss” by EXO.star_5bdbf641303acEXO is a South Korean boy band signed to SM Entertainment. They made their official debut in 2012 with the single “Mama.” They are one of the first kpop groups I ever listened to. I remember trying to sing along to “Wolf” and “Growl.” I also use to try to dance along with them. All I can say about the dancing part is that it definitely did not turn out wellπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

“Electric Kiss” is from EXO’s first Japanese album Countdown. It was released on the 31st of January, 2018.

This song is such a BOP. I cannot believe I never heard about it until earlier this week. I was seriously missing out on one of the grooviest songs in history. It is so good. There is no way anyone can listen to “Electric Kiss” and just stay still. The music just makes you want to move.  EXO sounds fantastic on this track, and the choreography is also outstanding. I am going to leave a video of their dance practice at the end of this post.

I hope you all enjoy listening to “Electric Kiss.”

Bye for now.

EXO – TEMPO: Song Of The Week

The chosen song for this week is Tempo.

“Tempo” was released by Korean pop group EXO, as part of their 2018 comeback album titled; Don’t Mess Up My Tempo. I am not really into EXO, so I only check out their title tracks, and I definitely have the specific songs I love from them. When I first heard this song, I did not take any interest in it, but I recently watched a reaction video for it and decided to give it a second listen. I guess the second time was the charm needed to allow me to appreciate the song more.

My favourite part of the song is the little Capella (Acapella) section they had towards the end of the track. I felt that their voices really shined throughout that section. It also made the song more groovy.  So a thumbs up to EXO for blessing my ears.
