BTS – Dynamite: Music Review

On August 21st, BTS released their new English digital single titled “Dynamite”

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV:

  • The only members are I am familiar with in BTS are Jungkook, RM, and Suga. I do not follow this group religiously. With them, I listen to whatever song that catches my attention.
  • So let’s see how this one goes.
  • From the first scene, this looks like it’s going to be a colourful video.
  • I love Jungkook’s voice. He’s the main reason why I listened to my first ever BTS song – “Dope”
  • He came in beautifully on this track, and I see those smooth dance moves.
  • I love the bouncy instrumental. It sounds retro-ish and makes me want to dance.
  • The sets for the music video are pretty and very vibrant.
  • The melody for the chorus is catchy and easy to sing along.
  • Charming casual concept and the choreography is adorable.
  • Ooh, I love the inclusion of trumpets. It gives it a funky feel, which is perfect for summer.
  • The modulation towards the last chorus is sweet. The vocalists took things up a notch, and I am living for that energy.💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
  • As expected from BTS, vocal-wise, they nailed things.
  • “Dynamite” is an adorable and catchy song.
  • I could see myself grooving to it once in a while. Hence, it gets a 10/10 from me.

Music Reviews Compilation: BAEKHYUN|MONSTA X|AGUST D|CHANYEOL X RAIDEN|BAEK JI WOONG

I posted on the blog’s Facebook page that I would be compiling a missed review post. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get this out earlier today due to schoolwork, but here it is. I also have a second part coming soon because I have a lot of groups and solo artists to go through.

(Please note – This is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)

“Candy” by Baekhyunimg_7410Reaction to Official MV:

  • Already this instrumental is giving straight BOP vibes.
  • Baekhyun’s voice is out of this world beautiful.
  • I am living for the instrumental, and I love how they slowed it down for the pre-chorus section.
  • Beautiful choreography and the chorus is so good.
  • I absolutely love the variations of beats in the background.
  • The deep drum beat that came in during the second verse was too perfect.🔥
  • The subtle runs that Baekhyun does at the end of each sentence are pure eargasm.
  • This is catchy and easy to groove to.
  • The slowed-down parts get me majorly in my feels.
  • The production is insane. From the vocal runs to the background vocals and even the high notes. Everything is incredible.
  • What else was I expecting?
  • Beakhyun is merely flexing his exceptional pipes on us, and I AM FEELING BLESSED.
  • Hence my rating for “Candy” is a bulletproof 10/10.
  • Now I know this is the title track for Baekhyun’s 2nd mini-album Delight, so I am going to check that out now.
  • This EP has seven tracks, and everyone was equally amazing.
  • I can’t pick a favourite song now because I want to replay the album later today when I’m fully awake. I need to appreciate all the tiny details before deciding.
  • All the same, Beakhyun’s voice is breathtaking, and Delight is a classic, lovely and well-produced R&B album. My rating for it is 10/10.

“FANTASIA” by Monsta Ximg_7412Reaction to Official MV:

  • This is my first time actively listening to a song from Monsta X.
  • I only randomly heard “MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT” and “Wish on the same sky” on Spotify, and I LOVE both songs.
  • So why not check out their recent comeback?
  • Okay… I wasn’t expecting the beat to go hard that fast.
  • The first rapper is so good. I love the way he came in, and the instrumental switch up for that section was perfect for his rap style.
  • The visuals for the music video are outstanding.
  • I love the synthesized beat for the chorus section.
  • The boys look amazing in the black and gold outfit.
  • They have great dancers, and the vocalists are also pretty solid.
  • The beat drops for this song are very epic and intriguing.
  • After my first listen, I am 80/20 on this song. I like it, but I’m not deeply in love.
  • EDM influenced tracks are often just okay or major bops for me. Hence why I’m going to replay “FANTASIA” to see if it gets better for me.
  • After my second listen, I will rate this song as a 9/10.
  • I like it, and I think it’s a grower. After a few more listens, I might enjoy it more.
  • Alright, I know they released a mini-album titled FANTASIA X. I am going to check it out now.
  • This album has seven tracks, and they all have electronic elements. I’m new to Monsta X, so I wonder if this is their go-to sound.
  • I think I will enjoy this album more when I blast it on my headphones, but it’s too late for that now.
  • Currently, the songs that stood out to me are “IT AIN’T OVER” and “Stand up”
  • My rating for FANTASIA X is 8.5/10. I will listen to it again later in the day and post more favourites songs on the Facebook page.

“Daechwita” by Agust Dimg_7417Reaction to Official MV:

  • I feel this is going to be a theory filled song/MV, so I’m just going to leave an explanation video here –
  • Now let’s get into it.
  • I have already mentioned way too many times how much I enjoy hearing traditional music elements in modern songs.
  • If he keeps this sound for the entire song, then he has my undivided attention.
  • Thankfully I have English captions since I’m fashionably late on this reaction.
  • I love the traditional town setting and costumes.
  • Okay, the beat definitely goes hard.
  • His flow is not even questionable. I might not be an avid BTS follower, but I know he’s talented.
  • I’m paying more attention to the lyrics.
  • Korean rappers have a different level of spice that makes me appreciate rap music.
  • I never used to enjoy hip-hop before discovering the K hip-hop scene. Their flow, energy and lyrics are exceptional and intriguing.
  • I wonder what “Daechwita” means. I will watch the explanation video once I finish this review.
  • Oooh, I love how the traditional elements dropped during the bridge, and his flow switched up entirely. This song is pure 🔥🔥🔥.
  • Yep, it’s official for me. “Daechwita” is a BOP and a half. I give it a complete 10/10.
  • I know this is the title track to his 2nd mixtape D-2, so I am checking it out now.
  • This album has ten songs, and every song hit hard for me in a different way.
  • Like Baekhyun’s case, I don’t want to pick favourites now because I need a better listen later in the day.
  • My rating for D-2 by Agust D is a bulletproof 10/10.

“Yours” by Raiden x Chanyeol ft. LEE HI & Changmoimg_7418Reaction to Official MV:

  • LEE HI came in smoothly with her soulful and sultry voice. She always puts me in my feels.
  • I love the chill instrumental.
  • I admire rappers that can also sing, and Chanyeol’s voice is blessed.
  • Excellent work with having Chanyeol and LEE HI go back and forth on one verse.
  • Their completely different tones and styles of singing makes things more interesting.
  • I LOVE when featured artists are incorporated throughout the song instead of only appearing in one section.
  • It doesn’t even have to be them singing or rapping the entire time, but at least some background vocals or continuous interaction between the leading artist and featured one sound way better to me.
  • Raiden is calling for my attention with that piano and guitar of his. I know I sound like a broken record already, but I love keyboards.😄
  • I love the beat drop for the chorus. It’s still chill but more bouncy.
  • The colours and graphics for the music video are perfect.
  • I love the vocal layering on this.
  • LEE HI’s vocal runs are soft but beautiful. The production on this song is really exceptional.
  • Oooh, nice ending with the synthesized/distorted instrumental.
  • Yep, “Yours” by Raiden x Chanyeol ft. LEE HI & Changmo gets a solid 10/10 from me. Another song for my playlist.

“Sometimes” by Baek Ji Woong(Prod. JungKey)img_7494Reaction to Official MV:

  • This marks my second song from Baek Ji Woong.
  • I enjoy his calm and compelling vocal tone.
  • He’s a very talented ballad singer, and I honestly need to find time to check out his previous releases.
  • The slight raspiness of his voice is soothing to my ears. Plus, the vibe of this song is relaxing.
  • This song started out with a soft piano and then paced up a bit with the introduction of a guitar to the mix.
  • The couple in the music video is adorable.
  • Is this song about them reminiscing their time together? Doesn’t that mean they broke up?😥
  • I love the instrumental and vocal progression of this song.
  • Baek Ji Woong’s high note is smooth, and I love how his vocals floated out at the end.
  • CLASSIC BALLAD’S ARE SO BEAUTIFUL.
  • I checked out the English lyrics, and it is about reminiscing the precious moments of a previous relationship.
  • I really enjoyed listening to “Sometimes” by Baek Ji Woong, and it’s since it falls under one of my favourite genres, I couldn’t help but fall in love with this song.
  • My rating is a solid 10/10. I already added it to my playlist.

Finally Thoughts:

Although I had to stay up late, I enjoyed listening to all these artists. I discovered some quality R&B, Hip-hop and EDM albums. I also got a fantastic ballad track to soothe my soul, so I am pleased. I will be sleeping well tonight.

What do you all think of the songs I reviewed?

IU – eight (Prod.&Feat. SUGA of BTS): Music Review

HELLO, people🤗🤗🤗

You all will be getting a lot of music/album reviews this week, and I’m starting off with IU. She just released a new single which features SUGA from BTS, and it’s called “eight”

IU is an incredible vocalist, so I have been waiting for this single, and finally, it is here. I love the teaser/track images she dropped. They are so pretty, and the animated version of IU is too adorable😍😍😍 –

Lee Ji Eun, popularly known as IU, is a South Korean singer-songwriter and actress. IU began her career at the age of 15 under Kakao M. with the album – Lost and Found. She achieved significant success with her song “Good Day”. Ever since then, IU has established herself as a music chart queen. On January 6th of this year, IU announced that she was now under new management called EDAM Entertainment. It is a subsidiary of her former agency, and it was established by her manager of twelve years, Bae Jong Han. She moved along with all her staff members to the new company.

IU’s new single “eight” is already No.1 on the real-time charts of major music sites in South Korea. Also, she has broken the record for most unique listeners in the first hour on Melon.

(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV:

  • Unfortunately, there are no English captions, but I’ll check for the translation later.
  • Apparently, this song is about IU’s late friends Sulli, Goo Hara and Jonghyun.
  • It looks like it’s going to be a sad one.
  • We have some kind of studio/lab room at the beginning of the music video.
  • I already like the melody.
  • I love the thinned out instrumental in the beginning, and then the bass came in once IU started singing.
  • So is she in some kind of virtual dimension trying to experience good memories again?
  • I thought this was going to take a very melancholic tone, but it’s actually upbeat.
  • The visuals for the music video are stunning.
  • The first sentence IU sang was, “So are you happy now?… Finally happy now, are you?” and in the chorus, she says – “Forever young, Forever we’re young” This means she hopes that her friends are at peace now, and because they left so early, they will always be young in her memories, Right???
  • That’s what I got so far, and IU sounds fantastic as always.
  • I really love this cartoon version of her.
  • Concerning the plane turbulence scene/ nightmare sequence. My guess is that it represents IU’s sleepless nights and pain from the loss of her close friends. It could also mean that she wishes their deaths were just a bad dream???
  • I’m trying my best to guess the subliminal meanings of each scene, but I might still miss out on a lot.
  • SUGA’s verse came in smoothly. He fits the track, but his part was short. I prefer features that incorporate both artists throughout the song.
  • I just got chills when the other animated girl jumped into the sky. That visual made me sad, plus IU’s voice is that section is so soothing.
  • Now we’re back to the thinned out version of the instrumental, which means less bass.
  • So did the lizard transform into a dragon???
  • Awww, I don’t want to cry😥😥😥. That smile between IU’s animation on the plane and the girl on the dragon was such a touching moment.img_5513
  • My guess is that the lizard represents Jonghyun, and the girl is Sulli.
  • The music video ends with her waking up from the visual world and returning to reality.
  • She then sings – “So are you happy now?… I know you’re happy now, yea.”
  • This is so heartfelt.
  • By the way, IU is gorgeous in that all-white outfit.
  • Oooh, I just read an interesting comment by (MiMi Park) on the music video. She said in the airplane scene when the storm started, it read “electronic devices off” instead of “seatbelt on.” This is a warning to people who stay behind their phones and laptops to leave hateful comments about others.
  • We are all humans with feelings, so hateful words can surely hurt and break anyone. Please be nice to others because being kind should not be seen as a difficult task.
  • I LOVE the message of this song, but I’m not 100% into the music itself yet. So I’m going to listen to it again.
  • After the second listen, I can definitely say that “eight” is a grower. I enjoy it more as it replays, so this song gets a 9/10 from me.

English Lyrics:

[Verse 1: IU]
So are you happy now?
Finally happy now, are you?
Well, I’m exactly the same
I think I’ve lost everything
Everything comes as it pleases and leaves without a goodbye
Like this, I don’t want to love anything
Where the sun has set, as far as the sun sets
I travel in those memories

[Chorus: IU]
Under an orange sun
We dance with no shadows
There is no such thing as decided farewells
Meet me in that memory that was once beautiful
Forever young

[Post-Chorus: IU]
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Forever we young
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
If it is this kind of nightmare, I won’t ever wake up.

[Verse 2: SUGA]
Island, yeah, here is an island
A small one that we made with each other
Yeah, um, forever young, the word “forever” is a sandcastle
A farewell is like a disaster cast
A morning greeted along with the yearning
Let us both pass this eternity
Surely meet once more on this island.

[Verse 3: IU]
Like what someone said as they were consoling me, passing
It isn’t that easy to forget a memory merely big as a handspan
Even as time goes by, still
At that place which takes hold of me

[Chorus: IU]
Under an orange sun
We dance with no shadows
There is no such thing as decided goodbyes
Meet me in that memory that was once beautiful
Forever young

[Bridge: IU]
We lie down atop of each other
Share stories that aren’t of sorrow
There is no such thing as gloomy endings
I will forever meet you in this memory
Forever young

[Post-Chorus: IU]
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
Forever we young
Oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh
If it is this kind of nightmare, I won’t ever wake up

BTS MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 ‘Interlude: Shadow’ Comeback Trailer – Music Review

I was talking to my cousin recently, and she asked why I have not featured BTS on my blog yet. My answer was that I do not keep up with their activities. I simply listen to a few songs that get my attention. Plus, when I started doing more music reviews on this blog, I focused mainly on present comebacks. After our little talk, I promised her that once they release a new song, I will check it out. Finally, today is the d-day. My school has resumed, so I hardly have enough time to write. But I am a bit free now, so let us get right into this –

This solo track from Suga is a teaser for their upcoming album titled Map of the Soul: 7, set to be released on February 21st. Here is a comeback map for anyone who wants to stay up to date –img_2772(Note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)

Reaction to Official MV:

  • I love the instrumental.
  • The way Suga starts this song is quite intriguing – “I wanna be a rap star, I wanna be the top, I wanna be a rockstar, I want it all mine, I wanna be rich, I wanna be the king, I wanna go win, I wanna be…”
  • I feel like this is about to be some personal reflective track.
  • Of course, his rapping skill is on point, so I am just going to focus more on the message and music composition.
  • Okay, I was definitely not expecting the singing part. I thought this was going to be a full rap track.
  • I am impressed and pleasantly surprised because I love musical compositions that are not too predictable.
  • “Please don’t let me shine, Don’t let me down, Don’t let me fly, Now I’m afraid.” This is such a deep line.
  • Honestly, being famous is not all blink, there are numerous negatives. Celebrities are deprived of almost all their rights to privacy. They are also constantly scrutinized for every little mistake they make.
  • Hence even though, they would love their music to gain more recognition, I feel that there is still this fear in knowing that they might have to give up more of their freedom and individuality.
  • At some point, I am sure they contemplate if the fame is even worth all the stress.
  • This song has a beautiful message.
  • I now have big expectations for the upcoming album.
  • The production on this track is remarkable. I love the way things got quite dark towards the end, and you can sense it from the instrumental.
  • Wait a minute… the entire beat just switched up on me. Starting from the 2:19 minute mark of the music video, I was kind of thrown off a bit. I do not know if I appreciate that section.
  • Okay, it sounds better with time. It gives me a very cypher like vibe.
  • Now I want this particular section to have an entire song of its own. Lol
  • Damn all those photo clicks. That is the celeb life. You will always have cameras pushed on your face. Sad. I also noticed a few other visual representations, but due to time, I cannot point out all.
  • Anyways, I truly enjoyed listening to “Shadow” by Suga. I absolutely love the music and message, so my rating for it is 10/10.
  • I will be keeping an eye out for the album.
