I am here to review Seo Eunkwang’s mini-album titled FoRest: Entrance. This album has seven songs, including the title track “No One Knows”Seo Eunkwang is a South Korean singer and musical actor. He was born on November 22nd, 1990 and debuted as the leader of the boy group BtoB in 2012. This album marks his official solo debut.
(Please note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exacts thoughts while listening to each song.)
Reaction to Title Track/Official MV:
Is this going to be a power ballad?
The instrumental is beautiful.
By now, you all should know how I feel about keyboards.
The visuals and lighting for the music video are so aesthetically pleasing and peaceful.
I wish I had subtitles, but it’s okay. I can check for them later.
Every vocalist in BtoB is equally outstanding, hence why I’m not even surprised about the quality of Eunkwang’s voice.
Even without any current understanding of the lyrics, I can tell that he genuinely conveyed the emotions of this song.
Also, his high notes are full and very stable.
I love the instrumental progression of this song. It started out with a keyboard and some classical string instruments, then we got some soft drumming and a surprising modulation.
Through it all, Eunkwang sounds fantastic, and I love how he ended the song.
Now, I’m going to check out the English lyrics.
From what I read, my guess is that “No One Knows” is about putting up a happy front even though you are truly hurting inside. When alone, you cry all the time, but you also fake a laugh in front of friends. Unfortunately, none of them know what’s really going on with you.
I appreciate the sentiments of the song because I can relate to it, and I am sure many others can as well.
Kudos to Seo Eunkwang for delivering this song beautifully.
“No One Knows” is a great ballad song. Right now, I’m not madly in love with it, but it could be a grower.
Album Review: Here is the album sampler –
Dear My Dear – I believe this was a pre-release single, so that’s why it has an official lyric video. For some reason, the intro reminds me of rain showers…odd, I know. It really gives me the same soothing feeling like rain, and I don’t understand why. The melody is beautiful. I love the nature theme of this mini-album. The blend between Eunkwang’s voice and the instrumental is pure bliss. I’m really enjoying this track. I love the animation for the video, it’s adorable and catchy. The soft twinkles in the background are so enchanting. It makes me feel like I’m gazing at stars. Seo Eunkwang is blessing my ears and soul this morning. His high notes are lovely. On first listen, “Dear My Dear” suits my taste more than the title track.
No One Knows – Now listening to it the second time, I am definitely enjoying it more, but the first song is still my favourite.
Have a nice day – I absolutely adore the vibe of this album and “Have a nice day” seems to be one of those songs that immediately called for my attention. I love the guitar intro and drum beats. I am living for the vocal layering on this track, and the subtle falsetto during the chorus is too good. Seo Eunkwang’s voice is incredible. I changed my mind, this is actually my favourite now😂. It just spoke to me right from the first second and kept me throughout the entire three minutes plus. The production on “Have a nice day” is impeccable, and Eunkwang’s vocal power truly shines on this track. I LOVE IT, and I’m going to do a replay before moving on.
About Eternity – I love how he used a shallow tone to start this one, and it seems to be another ballad with the same serene vibe. I love the shallow whisper-like vocal layering as well, it is beautiful. I can’t… this album has been giving me relaxing gems so far, and I truly needed this kind of songs now. I noticed that once the shallow drumbeat came in after the first chorus, the instrumental somehow still managed to retain the same pacing while scaling upwards occasionally. Eunkwang’s voice seemed to be the only element that consistently soared throughout the song. I like “About Eternity”, but I’m not madly in love. It’s a definite grower, so I might change my mind after a second listen.
The Four Seasons – Oh, this is more upbeat. I wasn’t expecting it due to how it started. “The Four Seasons” slightly resembles a Christmas tune. It has a bubbly vibe but still relaxing like the previous songs. A lot is going on with the instrumental of this track, but I really love the variations I’m hearing. This is another show of excellent production. The soft jingles in the background are giving me major holiday vibes. I LOVE CHRISTMAS.
Love again – A good guitar intro, but I wonder what it’s going to sound like. Yes, I knew it was going to surprise me because the intros on this album have been quite deceptive. I love the melody on this one, and I’m intrigued to see how the chorus drops. Alright, the chorus isn’t what I was expecting, but I still like it. I appreciate the short clapping section they included, and it also mirrors the rhythm of the instrumental. Nice touch.
With U – Another magical ballad and I ain’t complaining. I feel this might be a fave as well because the instrumental is calling to me. Yes, I love the melody, and Eunkwang’s voice is speaking words of love and positivity to my soul right now. I feel perfect listening to “With U”. I am living for how he ends the chorus sections with those beautiful vocal runs. His voice is breathtaking on this song, and I am enjoying every second. The high notes…YESSS. Please bless me. This is definitely my third fave on the album. I am here for this kind of energy and mood.
I LOVE this mini-album. I found my three favourite songs, and I will definitely be listening to the full album for a while because of the overall composition and peaceful nature. I might not be super in love with every song, but they all fit the mood and energy that I’m in right now. I’ve been longing for some new soothing tunes, and Seo Eunkwang delivered with Forest: Entrance. Hence why my rating for this solo-debut album is 9/10.
Recently, I haven’t been posting a lot. I am at that critical point in the semester, where I only have time to study and sleep. That is why this playlist is coming to you guys this late in the season. Winter is almost over, and spring should be here soon. Hence I tried my best to revamp this playlist with a few tracks that could also suit spring. As per usual, I have included short previews for each track.
#. AKMU – How can I love the heartbreak, you’re the one I love
I had to start with AKMU. They are my go-to for this time of the year. They help me feel at peace. “How can I love the heartbreak, you’re the one I love” is one of my favourites from their SAILINGalbum. I listen to this song on my way to school, while studying, and I even use it as my bedtime lullaby. It is that good, so I hope you all love it as well. Also, feel free to check out my album review for SAILING with this link 👉🏼 AKMU – SAILING: Album Review
#. Eric Nam – Hold Me I personally feel that Eric Nam is the perfect selection for spring. His voice gives me the most wonderful tingling sensation ever. “Hold Me” is the kind of song that automatically makes any listener feel loved and cherished. I have written about my love for Eric Nam while covering his content a few times on this blog. So if you need more song suggestions from this amazing artist, simply click on his name tag at the end of this post.
#. DAY6 – I’ll try This is such a lovely track from DAY6. Try to search up the English lyrics because you need to understand how touching this song is. “I’ll try” always make me feel like I am in a warm embrace with someone special. I think it is very fitting for winter. I have ranted about how good DAY6 is a few times on this blog. Honestly, they never disappoint. If you want to read more DAY6 related content, simply click on their name tag at the end of this post.
#. Solar, Kassy – A song from the past A charming duet from two incredible ladies. I absolutely adore this song. The harmonies, melody and high notes are beautiful. I think it is a perfect track for spring. So I hope you all enjoy it as well. I also wrote a review for this song that can be accessed with this link 👉🏼 Solar x Kassy – A Song From The Past: Music Review
#TAEYEON – Wine “Wine” is my favourite track from Taeyeon’s Purpose album. The chorus is infectious, and Taeyeon’s voice during that section is pure bliss. I randomly find myself humming the melody. I am glad that I checked out the full album because I would have missed out on this gem. To read my review for Taeyeon’s Purpose album, including the repackaged version, use these links 👉🏼 TAEYEON – PURPOSE: Album Review
#. Eric Nam – 4AM Yess I included another song from Eric Nam and it also from the same digital single release. I love both songs, so I could not pick one over the other. This track is more upbeat, and I live for the raw vocal runs in this one. The man can sing, and no one can change my opinion. He had a concert in my city recently, but I couldn’t go due to school😭😭😭. Anyways I hope you guys enjoy listening to “4AM”.
#. millic, HAN – Treasure Island “Treasure Island” is a jam but the full Vida album that contains this track is a complete BOP and A HALF. Millic worked perfection, and everyone that was featured on it nailed their part. A full-blown masterpiece. For some reason, Vida is no longer available on Spotify, but I hope he brings it back because I need my jams intact. Honestly, Korean RnB is on another level.
#. Primary, SUMIN, Qim Isle – woozoo Another BOP. Primary is an incredible producer. I discovered this song while reviewing the second part of his PAKTORY EP. To read that review, use this link 👉🏼Primary – 3-PAKTORYO2: Music Review. Immediately the song started, I was captivated by SUMIN’s voice. Honestly, she should be a bigger name because the lady can sing. “woozoo” always gets me in some kind of turnt up mood that I can’t even explain in words.
#. Punch – Sometimes This is actually my first song from Punch that isn’t an OST for a Korean drama. I love the chill and carefree vibe this track gives off. Punch has a remarkable voice, so I was determined to check out her personal discography and “Sometimes” is my favourite so far from all her songs I have listed to. To read more content about Punch, simply click her name tag at the end of this post.
#. Vincent Blue – Stupid This is the most intriguing song I have heard in a long while. Indeed, music is a compelling tool. There are various ways artists express themselves, and the effect that their expressions have on another individual is incredible. Vincent Blue’s voice and the way he sang this song continually leaves me in awe. He sounds so elegant, especially when he starts those vocal runs that mimic the instruments. “Stupid” is pure art and also an excellent show of intelligent production.
#. IU – The visitor My love for IU soars higher each day along with my undying adoration for her Love poem album. I already wrote a review for it, so I will try not to rant again. If you still need to read my review, use this link 👉🏼 IU – LOVE POEM: Album Review. All the songs on this album are equally amazing as expected from IU, but I chose “The visitor” because I feel it suits this season the most.
#. Dean, Crush, Jeff Bernat – What 2 Do Since I decided to spring things up with a few RnB and neo-soul tracks, I couldn’t leave out Dean. “What 2 Do” is one of my first songs from him, and I still destroy the replay button on this song to date. It is so good. Plus Crush and Jeff Bernat also held their fort. These three amazing singers came together and disrespected me most beautifully. I LOVE!!!😍😍😍
#. Tia Ray – Ready For Love The instrumental on this track is LIT🔥🔥🔥. In fact, the entire 1212album is a groovy anthem. I am so pleased that I randomly discovered this artist. Her voice and energy are perfect. “Ready For Love” always comes on when I need something upbeat but not too loud. Just perfect enough for body rolling. I sit on my bed and dance like the weird human being I am.💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
#. g.o.d – One Candle g.o.d!!!. I love me some first-generation Kpop artists. This song might not fancy some people on the first listen, but I will advise you to give it a second or third try. If you still don’t like it, oh well😂😂😂. We can’t all have the same taste because differences are what make the world interesting. Anyways “One Candle” is one of my favourite classics from g.o.d. The lyrics are beautiful, and the chorus always has me dancing.
#. DAY6 – days gone by
Yes, DAY6 appeared again because according to Spotify, they are my most played Kpop group and I ain’t arguing with facts. My closest friend and I live for this song because of the old school disco vibe. I mean, who can resist a good disco jam with such impressive vocals. There is no way you can see me sitting still when “days gone by” comes on. It becomes a party hall, no matter where I am😂😂😂.
#. Ailee – Reminiscing The powerhouse Ailee is here with her soft and impeccable vocal runs that consistently make me wonder how she sings this song live. Honestly, even after watching a live performance, I am still confused. How does she belt that high-speed line with so much ease? All the same, “Reminiscing” is a beautiful track, and it is precisely the kind of song that I gravitate to during the cold season. To read more Ailee related content, click on her name tag at the end of this post.
#. Urban Zakapa – Nearness Is To Love You all know how I feel about ballads/RnB and Urban Zakapa always nail their tracks. Plus, “Nearness Is To Love” is entirely in English, so I could understand right away. This song is so soothing, and I remember during the first week of discovering it, I couldn’t listen to anything else. The melody was stuck in my head. It is such a beautiful piece, and the vocal quality is to die for.
#. 4Men – Baby Baby This is a song that never fails to get me in my feels. I love it when Spotify recommends new artists to me because I get to try something different every once in a while. I discovered 4Men a few years ago. They are such talented singers and “Baby Baby” is my favourite from them. The vocal prowess they showcase throughout this song is incredible.
#. LEE HI – BREATHE This song became so hard to listen to for a long time, but I am back on it now. I love the message of hope and reassurance that no matter what is happening, you are not alone. So it is okay to take a break and breathe. Even from the initial release, it was a very emotional piece because I was in an awful mental space at the time. “BREATHE” definitely means a lot to me. I hope anyone dealing with trials finds some comfort through this song.
#. Juno Su – Fortunately, We Meet Again I have definitely overplayed this soundtrack from the Chinese drama, Ten Years Late. There is something about the chorus section that soothes my soul, and it perfect for this season. I already featured it as my song for the week and on my list of favourite 2019 OSTs, but I still included in this playlist. Whenever I can’t sleep, I either play “Fortunately, We Meet Again” or rain sounds. That is how much I love this song.
#. Urban Zakapa – Wish There are few very popular OSTs from Goblin, but there are some other late releases that I think did not get enough attention. “Wish” by Urban Zakaba is one of those. This song’s progression is intense and captivating. It literally feels like you are soaring on the power of love. I like to pretend like I am singing along with them because it makes me feel invincible.
#. Park Hyo Shin – Goodbye Hmmm, are there really any words that could describe the amazement that is Park Hyo Shin. The man stuns all the time. I know how good he is, but I still get surprised by each new song. “Goodbye” is a magical piece. It starts out slow, but the vocal prowess that Park Hyo Shin displays from the one minute mark just leaves my mouth hanging wide open, and I ain’t complaining. Yesss…. please bless my ears with your breathtaking pipes.
#. BTOB – Missing You I could write a whole page full of praise and love for BTOB because they are more than deserving of that. With each new album, they continue to impress both as a group and individually. So if you don’t know them, what are you waiting for???🙄🙄😊 Anyways “Missing You” is an excellent song with beautiful vocals and great rap verses. Also, since it is my favourite from Brother Act., it has to be on this playlist.
#. Younha – Dark Clouds I love working on this blog, not just because of my obsession with music and dramas but also because it broadens my horizon. I discover a lot of new things while creating content here. Younha is one of such discoveries. While trying to check out more artists for music review content, I stumbled upon her latest album – UNSTABLE MINDSET,and I was utterly blown away. If you will like to read my review for UNSTABLE MINDSET, use this link 👉🏼 YOUNHA – UNSTABLE MINDSET: Album Review. “Dark Clouds” is a powerful and heartfelt song. It also happens to be one of my faves, so I decided to include it.
#. Lee Moon Sae – A welcome rain Another song which I listed as one of my favourite OSTs from 2019. “A welcome rain” makes me feel emotions that I shouldn’t be experiencing. Yes, I have gone through some sad things, but the way this song calls out my tears is still not explainable. This is a sad one, but I still love it. Anytime I hear it play, I recall Shin Hye-sun’s scenes from Angel’s Last Mission: Love. So maybe that’s why the tears flow because her performance was too good. Also, bravo to Lee Moon Sae for an emotional delivery of this exquisite piece.
#. Paul Kim – Big Heart Paul Kim is one singer that always calls forth my attention. “Big Heart” was his last release for 2019, and I already wrote a review for it. You can access that post with this link 👉🏼 Paul Kim – Big Heart: Music Review. Also, for more content, click on his name tag at the end of this post. Paul Kim was on my first Winter Playlist, and I didn’t even know him so well then. Now, a year later, he is one of my favourite Korean solo acts. His voice is precious, and he is still quite young, so just imagine what he could produce with even more experience. I am excited to hear more songs from him.
#. DAY6 – All Alone I promise that this is my last song from DAY6 on this playlist😂😂😂. I tried my best to have one artist to one song, but people like Eric Nam and DAY6 could not let a sister be great. I really like “All Alone” because of the stripped-down acoustic style of the song. It puts more attention on their voices, and I love, I MEAN I REALLY LOVE to hear them bless me. Ladies and gentlemen, yes, this is for sure the curtain roll on my DAY6 rants in this post. I hope you enjoyed every section. Moving on…
#. Davichi – Dear. Another beautiful set of vocal queens. This song is a chill love and appreciation vibe. Davichi effortlessly nailed each note while still keeping the progression a bit simple. I adore the instrumental for “Dear” because it reminds me of Christmas jingles. Which makes sense since this track was released in December of last year. Anyways, I play Christmas songs throughout the year, so this can be included in this list. I have a review for”Dear” on this blog, it can be accessed with this link 👉🏼 Davichi – Dear: Music Review
#. ATEEZ – Sunrise
ATEEZ is another new discovery, and I have been fangirling over them a lot recently. Currently, I have two stable biases (Park Seonghwa and Kim Hongjoong), but every now and then, I get swayed by other members. After reviewing their most recent album, I went ahead to check out their discography, and “Sunrise” was one of the first songs that caught my attention. I love the message and the heavy drumbeat used for the instrumental. For more ATEEZ content, simply click on their name tag at the end of this post.
#. The Rose – She’s In The Rain Finally The Rose comes into the mix. Another one of my favourite K-bands. I really hope they get good results concerning the recent dispute with their management company. “She’s In The Rain” was the first song I heard from this group, and I immediately fell in love. The Dawnalbum, which contains this song, is also perfect. So all I did was choose my number track from it.
Well, I hope you all were at least intrigued by one or two songs. This playlist is available on YouTube and Spotify with these links: 👉🏼 Youtube Winter 2020
Yesterday, BtoB’s YOOK SUNGJAE released two new tracks as part 3 of his ongoing 3×2=6 Project. The two new songs are titled “HMHN” and “Hypnotized”. I already checked out one of the tracks from part 2. If you haven’t read that post already, here is the link 👉🏼 YOOK SUNGJAE – W.A.U: Music Review.
(Note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to each song.)
Reaction to Official Lyric Video for HMHN:
So this is the title track for 3×2=6 Project Part 3, and it features BtoB’s ILHOON.
To know what this song is about, read the description box of the video.
I love that all of SungJae’s videos have English captions. I genuinely appreciate the effort to accommodate international fans.
This is already a groove right from the start.
The voice layering going on in this track is delightful to hear.
The instrumental is really good, it is so addictive.
SungJae’s control over his voice is excellent, and Ilhoon’s rap tone also complements the style of this song really well.
I love that they are starting and ending each other’s lines during the chorus. Almost like a call and response technique.
Ilhoon is my bias in BtoB, so I always enjoy hearing him rap, and he never disappoints.
Yook SungJae has an incredible voice. I am really impressed, and people need to start paying more attention to this project.
There is bound to be one or more songs that anyone can enjoy.
“HMHN” is a slow tempo song, but it still has a groovy R&B/ hip hop beat.
I love it, so my rating is 10/10.
Reaction to Official Lyric Video for Hypnotized:
BtoB’s PENIEL is featured in this song. I love how he’s including his members.
The tone of the piano gives off a gloomy vibe. Although, I feel it’s trying to throw me off from what the song will actually sound like.
I am enjoying these animated videos that he has been using.
I know I have complimented him a lot already, but I absolutely love SungJae’s voice.
The background vocals on this track are so beautiful and very trance-like.
Yesss…. this is what I am talking about. That beat switch and the way Peniel came in was so perfect.
I am definitely enjoying this song more than the “W.A.U”
This calls for body rolling💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼. “Hypnotized” is a BOP – “ok ok ok what, ok ok ok whoop, ok ok ok yeah.”
WHAT???… SHUT UP, what just happened after he said – “drop the beat, let’s go.”
The instrumental in this song goes hard, and I am living for it.
THIS IS A GROOVE. I am sold, this is my jam for the whole week.
Peniel came in and did his thing. Sungjae also came back with his beautiful vocals to serenade my soul. I am in awe of this track.
I know I said I needed to hear something better from him after “W.A.U,” but he didn’t have to go this hard. I AM SHOCKED😲😲.
“Hypnotized” is a well-composed track. The way the beat switches up when entering a new section is impressive.
I love the trap/EDM elements for the instrumental. This is going on my playlist.
The details on what this song is about can be found in the description box of the video.
Nah, I wish you all can see my face at this point. Peniel went too hard on this song.
Also, SungJae’s vocal runs at the end were not helping. This song has me hypnotized for real.
The intensity at the end is too good. That guitar riff. LORD… I’m out💀💀.
They cannot disrespect me like this. How am I supposed to review other songs now with this standard in mind?
PENIEL and YOOK SUNGJAE did an excellent job on this track. They nailed every second, so my rating for “Hypnotized” is a solid 10/10.
I absolutely enjoyed listening to both songs. Go check the 3×2-6 Project if you haven’t already done so.
BtoB’S YOOK SUNGJAE released the second part of his 3X2=6 Projecton the 16th of this month. There are two songs for Part 2, but I will be reviewing only “W.A.U” Yook Sung Jae is a South Korean singer, actor, and entertainer. He is a member of the boy group, BtoB. Every member of BtoB is known for their powerful and stable vocals. SungJae is known for his acting in television dramas like Who Are You: 2015, Goblin, and The Village: Achiara’s Secret. He is also a permanent cast on the variety show Master in the House.
(Note – this is a real-time review, meaning I am typing down my exact thoughts while listening to this song.)
Reaction to official Lyric Video:
According to the description provided under the video, “W.A.U” is an EDM Pop describing a gentle longing that comes when we feel light after a breakup.
I thought this was a ballad, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Now I am excited to hear what it sounds like.
Yes, it has English captions. 👏👏
It is definitely EDM Pop, and I like the beat.
This is already a groove.💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
SungJae’s voice is so good, and it is lovely hearing him on a very upbeat track.
I love the beat drop during the chorus, it is very catchy.
So W.A.U stands for “what about you?”
Wow, this is a short song. It is not even up to three minutes.
I was waiting for more, and it just ended on me after two minutes and fifty-six seconds. WHY?
I have to go back and take my time.
Honestly, It is a lovely song, but the length doesn’t give me much to appreciate.
Overall, I’ll rate it as 8/10.
I truly enjoyed it, but it left me hanging. This is just my opinion.
I will still be keeping an eye out for more releases from SungJae. Hopefully, I will get something I genuinely love.
It has officially been summer for a while now and just like I did during winter with My Winter Playlist, I have created a summer playlist. On a regular, my favourite genres of music are RnB, soul, neo-soul, hip-hop, but occasionally I do dabble into trap, country and rock. During summer, I practically listen to anything, so far as it is groovy and upbeat.
So here is my summer playlist created for you all to enjoy, and as always I added short previews for each song.
#. Mamamoo – gogobebe
I absolutely adore Mamamoo, not just for their music but also for their quirky personalities. They are a fantastic group, and I always look forward to their comebacks. If you do not listen to Mamamoo already, you should because they are a vocal powerhouse that never disappoints on both upbeat and ballad tracks.
#. LAY – Bad
I already mentioned the EP – Honey by Lay in a previous post. If you have not read that post already, go check it out – Song Of The Week: LAY – HONEY. ‘Bad’ is my second favourite song from the EP, and I have been listening to it on repeat. So hopefully, you all enjoy it like I do.
#. WayV – Take Off
WayV was the group I wrote about in my most recent star showcase. If you have not read that post already, here is the link – Star Showcase: WayV. They are currently my favourite male pop group. “TakeOff” is a great upbeat song, and so I had to have it on this playlist.
#. I.O.I – Whatta Man
I discovered I.O.I’s version of “Whatta Man” while searching for the original by Salt ‘N’ Pepa. Usually, I am very skeptical about remakes, but this was done so well, and I like that they brought their own originality to the piece. I hope you all enjoy listening to this song and also check the original version by Salt ‘N’ Pepa if you have not heard to it before.
#. MOMOLAND – BAAM
So far, this is the only song from MOMOLAND that I have listened to. This is because I do not really enjoy overly cute concepts. But once in a while, I make an exception for amazing songs like “BAAM”. My favourite part of the song is definitely the rap section.
#. BTOB – Blowin’ Up
I LOVE BTOB. They are currently on the top of my list for Korean boy bands. Every single member brings something unique to the group. Their rappers are amazing, but my main man is Ilhoon. Also, this is another vocal powerhouse because all of the vocalists could be mains. Their voices are so beautiful. I groove a lot to “Blowin’ Up”, so it has to be on this playlist.
#. VaVa, Ty., Nina Wang – My New Swag
I am so glad that this song was featured as a soundtrack for Crazy Rich Asians. I would have been missing out on a rare gem if I did not watch that movie. It is a perfect case of the old and new coming together to form a fantastic blend. The entire song scream genius. Of course, I love VaVa and Ty.’s rap, but Nina Wang blessed my ears with the Chinese opera section, that for me is the best part of this song. Also, it has a great beat, so what else do I need in a song? Pure Perfection.
#. Ailee – Room Shaker
Ailee did not come to play with anyone on her recent album: butterFLY. “Room Shaker” is such a great party song. She is such a vocal queen, and I am always here for her. Currently, she is having issues promoting her album, but I sincerely hope that everything works out well for her because she deserves the best.
#. G.Soul – You
Honestly, Korean agencies need to manage and promote their solo artists better because people keep on missing out on such gems. I am okay with the fact that he left JYP Entertainment to join H1GHR MUSIC. Other similar artists like Crush, Dean, Sam Kim, Zion.T are out there, but he seemed so hidden (sorry I just had to rant a little). I am glad that I discovered him because he is a beautiful vocalist.
#. BANG YONGGUK – YAMAZAKI
No words can describe the epicness of this song. I am so sad that I cannot find it on Spotify but no worries, I will just continue listening to it on YouTube. Fair warning: the music video for this song is quite graphic, you will also get a notice before the video starts. With that said, let me just state the fact that BANG YONGGUK is AMAZING. The beat on this goes hard🔥🔥. Guys, please listen to this song in 8d, I promise that you will love it even more.
#. NCT 127 – Simon Says
Most people tend to feel that NCT 127’s music is too trippy, but I personally think that their sound is very futuristic. Once I hear a song from any NCT group, I can tell that it is them because of how distinct their music style is. Sometimes it takes me a few listens to really get into the groove of the song, but after then, it becomes a steady bop. I love “Simon Says”. This song never fails to energize me, and I find myself playing it on repeat for a long time.
#. Triple H – Feel
I was really into this group, and I am so sad about the messed-up situation that went down. But that will not stop me from enjoying their music. I love every single song that Triple H released, but for this playlist, I decided to stick with “Feel” becauseit never fails to hype me up.
#. SUNMI – Heroine
The first song I ever heard from Sunmi was “Full Moon”, and I have been in love with her music since then. I decided to add “Heroine”to this playlist because of how perfect it is for a summer road trip. It is such a perfect sing-along song.
#. ITZY – DALLA DALLA
For me,”DALLA DALLA” is the perfect balance between the cute Vs. the hardcore concept. I really love it and plus it promotes an essential message, which is to love yourself and that it is okay to be different. All the members of the group really shined throughout the song, and I am looking forward to checking out their comeback song “ICY”.
#. EXO – Ko Ko Bop
Summer is not officially summer without EXO’s “Ko Ko Bop”. I really love when Kpop songs add in some trap or EDM elements because it guarantees a sick beat. Anyways, EXO never disappoints, and this is just one of their long list of songs that are perfect for summer.
#. CHUNG HA – Gotta Go
Chung Ha was born to be a star. She just has something about her that draws in the viewer’s attention. “Gotta Go” is my favourite song from her. The chorus for this song is very addictive, so I always attempt to sing along.
#. KARD – RUMOR
K.A.R.D is the best group to play during summer. Almost all their songs have that standard summer groove vibe to it, and even their latest release “BOMB BOMB” is lit. I showcased it recently as a song of the week, check out that post here – Song Of The Week: K.A.R.D – BOMB BOMB.”RUMOUR”made this playlist because I wanted to go with a more laid back tune from them.
#. Gen Hoshino – Family Song
This is another great road trip song or a perfect tune to end a gathering with friends. I discovered this song from the Japanese drama: Overprotected Kohoko. The song speaks about wishing happiness and smiles to everyone and praying that such feelings last for a long time in their lives. Even though they might be feeling sad now, it is only a bridge to their coming joy. I hope you all enjoy listening to this song, and I wish that everyone reading this post will have a reason to smile for a long time.
#. Millic, Fanxy Child – Paradise
This is one of the grooviest songs I have heard in the longest time. I just cannot help but to sing along to the chorus and also attempt to mouth some of Penomeco’s part because his verse is straight FIRE. Millic did his thing with the production of this song. Also, the other members of Fanxy Child (Crush, Dean and Zico) brought their A-game. In conclusion, the entire song is TOO GOOD.
#. Jackson Wang – Papillon
Aite Aite Aite Aite Aite, You got me feeling like a, Feeling like a Papillon. Only one word can be used to describe this song – LIT🔥🔥. Jackson just has this deep voice that does wonders for my ears, and he blessed me with this song. So that is all I have to say, NEXT.
#. Bii – Be Your Light
AWWW BII. I already spoke about my love for Bii in my first ever star showcase on this blog. Here is the link to that if you want to check it out – Star Showcase: BII. I just love the progression of this song. It starts off very soft with just Bii singing, but then you get a full choir for the chorus. That perfect build-up creates a hopeful feeling. Bii’s vocals on “Be Your Light” is beautiful, he always gives me the best music. I might be doing a short review of his latest album, so keep an eye out for that post.
#. Jay Park, Cha Cha Malone – Feature
Every playlist to me must have at least one or two impressive RnB tracks for it be complete. And who else could provide that perfect song? “Feature”by Jay Park & Cha Cha Malone is such a smooth song, and both singers served vocals on this track. So I hope you guys enjoy it.
#. HA SUNG WOON – BLUE
While reviewing the drama Her Private Life, I mentioned that “Think of You” by Ha Sung Woon is one of my favourite OSTs. I also stated that although I did not know much about him, he is a great singer. So recently, while doing a little research on him, I discovered “BLUE.” It is a great song, so I just had to have it on this playlist.
#. DEAN – Bonnie & Clyde
This song is such a masterpiece. Dean always releases excellent music, and that is why the music video for “Bonnie & Clyde” deserves way more views than it has currently. He is a vocal king, so people need to stop taking naps on his music and fully get on the Dean train.
Now I know I listed hip-hop as one of my favourite genres, but honestly, I was not always into rap music. I just could never get into the grove of Western hip-hop. I only started listening to rap music after I discovered the Korean hip-hop scene. And then from there, I was able to find one or two American rap artists that actually suits my taste. This song “EUNG FREESTYLE” is on the top of my list for Korean hip-hop songs.
#. SOMI – BIRTHDAY
SOMI really did great on this song. For a debut song, it actually slays. I really love whenever she says “oops, you’re not invited, yea you’re not invited”. I also think the bridge towards the end of the song is lovely. Even though I do not really follow her, I am happy that she was finally able to debut. I hope you all enjoy listening to “BIRTHDAY” as much as I do.
#. DAY6 – I Wait
Day6 is definitely one of my top Korean bands, and “I Wait” is a very addictive song. I love how the song starts out with a very soft tone and then keeps building up towards the powerful chorus. That just made the entire track more appealing to hear. Also, Day6 has an impressive set of vocalists. I really feel that they are an underrated group and totally deserve more exposure. I hope that with time, more people will discover them because they make fantastic music.
#. HEIZE, Dean – Shut Up & Groove
Here is another addictive song. After hearing it for the first time, the chorus was stuck in my head for days. I found myself singing “shut up & groove” EVERYWHERE I WENT TO😂. For real, the song goes hard. Heize is a fantastic artist, and of course, Dean always slays me with his vocals. So yes, it has to be on my summer playlist.
#. BAEKHYUN – UN Village
Okay BAEKHYUN, I see you. This song just makes me do that grovy sway from left to right while nodding and snapping my fingers. Like for real, this song is legitly too good. The music video should have more views by now but who knows what drug YouTube is on again😒. Anyways I really love “UN Village”, it is a beautiful song, and the album: CITY LIGHTSgets an A+ from me. Excellent solo debut.
#. Taemin – Want
Are words even needed to describe the awesomeness that is LEE TAEMIN? He is a full, packaged artist. From his dancing to his voice and even his looks. He gets a solid 100% in all departments, JUST SAYING. “WANT” is another one of his great releases. Also, the video for this song is pure art, plus the choreography💕. Like DAMN, HE DID THAT.
#. BOBBY – HOLUP!
Another song that goes hard. Bobby is an amazing rapper, and he really did great on this song. “HOLUP!” is such a party song. I love that included the other IKON members in this track. You can hear their voices towards the end of the song.
#. Red Velvet – RBB (Really Bad Boy)
I might not be the biggest fangirl of Red Velvet, but I still love them. And I also know that a good number of people feel that their songs are not always the best, but I am not of their opinion. I really really love all the songs they have released so far including their lastest comeback song “Zimzalabim”. It is definitely not my favourite song from them, but it is still good. Anyways I chose “Really Bad Boy” for this playlist because I have been listening to it on repeat.
#. BLACKPINK – Don’t Know What To Do
This is the ultimate summer song. “Don’t Know What To Do” is actually my favourite song from their latest album: Kill This Love. I have to render some well-deserved praise to Rose and Jisoo because they both sound beautiful on this track. I also enjoy listening to “Kick It” and funny enough the title track “Kill This Love” is not my go-to on the album.
#. Simon Dominic, ONE, G2, BewhY – Who You?
I need ONE to release more music. I am glad that he decided to leave YG Entertainment and has plans to set up his own one-person agency. At least now, he can focus more on his music. I still love Jung Jae Won the actor, but I have been missing One the rapper for way too long. Anyways, Simon Dominic, G2 and BewhY also went in on this track, everyone brought their A-game. Try listening to this song with a speaker because the beat on the chorus section is legit🔥🔥. Also if you guys have not watched Show Me The Money, then go check it out because it is actually a cool show.
#. Eric Nam – Honestly
As always, Eric Nam brought his perfect vocals and blessed me with a great summer song. My best part of “Honestly”is the section right before the chorus, he just sounds beautiful. No words can describe what his voice does for me. I hope you all enjoy listening to this song.
#. Gallant, Tablo, Eric Nam – Cave Me In
Yesss, another song with Eric Nam. His voice on this is so smooth. In fact, the entire song is too groovy. Gallant did well when choosing artists to feature on this track. Also the genius rapper Tablo. His verse is so real on this song. The choice of words in all his songs are always so brilliant. It makes me feel like he is reciting a poem.
#. Lu Han – On Fire
Okay, we are heading over to China again. Random thought – I feel Luhan and Bii look alike in a way. Back to the main topic – Luhan brought the heat on this song, it is a complete BOP. I am glad that all the Chinese members that left EXO have been doing well for themselves. Luhan has been killing both the music and the acting game, and I wish him more success.
#. TVXQ – The Chance of Love
The OGs, TVXQ. They are just two, but they sound better and even dance better than most groups with a vast number of members. “The Chance of Love” is an excellent song from them. That “oooh oooh oooh” is so soothing to my ears and the rest of the song also showcases impressive vocals. So I just had to have it on my summer playlist.
#. Jun. K – THINK ABOUT YOU
Like I mentioned already, every playlist to me must have at least one or two impressive RnB tracks for it be complete. And here is my second top on the list after ‘Feature’ by Jay Park & Cha Cha Malone. Jun. K snatched my wig and threw it all the way to Mars with this song. Vocals, dance and visuals, everything was 100%. My favourite section of this song is the bridge, he really took it up to another level there. The music video for “THINK ABOUT YOU” definitely deserves more than 4.2 million views. People need to stop sleeping on such incredible artists.
#. Song Bingyang – U Make Me Strong
This is such a beautiful song from Song Bingyang. I discovered it while watching the Chinese Drama: Moonshine and Valentine, which I listed as one of my top 10 dramas for 2018. If you will like to see that post, here is the link – MY TOP 10 DRAMAS FOR 2018. “U Make Me Strong” is a great song with an excellent beat as well and it always gives me an uplifting feeling whenever I listen to it. So I decided to end my summer playlist with this song.
Of course, there are many other summer songs, but these listed songs were chosen according to my personal preference. Also, I am sorry about the length of this post. I had way too many songs in mind, and I just could not shorten it be less than this listed 40.
Feel free to leave me your own summer song suggestions in the comment section. Also If you were intrigued by the previews and would like to hear the full versions, here is a link to the YouTube playlist I created – YouTube Summer Playlist
